Erii: A Journey Through the Heavens Begins with Frilian
Chapter 43 The Magical City of Visaster
A week later.
bang——
Rock and soil exploded, and surging magical turbulence shattered trees.
The four scattered to take cover. Philon raised his wand, which had floated into the air, and a beam of light shot out instantly, heading towards the high ground where the enemy was hiding. All that could be seen were severed limbs flying high into the air.
Frillian looked around and raised her wand, chanting for a second.
A massive magic circle condensed and rotated above, and clusters of fire rained down and scattered, covering a large area of the surrounding dense jungle.
"ah!!"
"Run! Run!"
Under this intense bombardment, the ambushing gang of Lao Liu fled in panic, but most of them were burned to ashes.
puff puff puff~
Suddenly, the ground trembled, and the ground behind Shutark exploded, revealing a dusty-faced mage who burst out of the ground, wielding his wand like a sword and spear.
What a bunch of mages, all of them play melee!
Erii flicked her little hand, and the opponent's head fell to the ground.
"Be careful." Shutark noticed some movement in an inconspicuous corner, warned him, and then rushed out like the wind.
Soon, screams and pleas for mercy rose and fell, accompanied by the whistling sound of the axe blades being swung. The screams gradually subsided, and he returned carrying his blood-stained battle axe.
The surroundings quickly became deathly silent, and the air was filled with the hot, pungent smell of blood.
"This is the fourteenth attack. Fortunately, we should be able to reach Visaster first thing tomorrow morning." Philon's face showed joy.
Although he and Shutark grew significantly through repeated bloody battles, they gradually shed their naivety in both combat experience and mentality.
However, the exhaustion from fighting and danger took a toll on his mind far more than on his physical strength, a stark contrast to the monotonous but peaceful journeys of the past.
Da Da Da~
Undisguised footsteps were approaching.
Erii looked in the direction of the sound and saw a slender girl with dark green hair and a side ponytail walking slowly towards her.
With her hands behind her back, clutching a trident-like metal wand, her small face, gradually exposed to the sunlight, wore a cheerful smile.
"I was saying there were dead bodies everywhere, and some blind, brainless idiots mistook me for someone else and tried to kill me. Turns out, they were chasing you guys!"
As she spoke, she kicked a head out of the grass, and seeing it hit a tree precisely, she exclaimed excitedly, "Bullet of the bullseye!"
Swish!
Hugh Tarek and Philon simultaneously drew their swords at each other, their faces filled with vigilance and defensiveness.
It's no wonder they were both so fearful; anyone who was attacked and assassinated in turn would be on edge and see threats everywhere.
"Don't get me wrong, I'm just passing by," the girl said with a bright smile, showing no fear. "My name is Yubel, and I'm going to Visaster to take the Level 1 Magician exam."
Seeing that the two remained unmoved, Yubel shrugged dismissively and looked at Erii, saying, "How interesting. You're not a magician, yet you can use special abilities, and they're just like mine."
Suddenly, a corpse lying in the grass not far away began to run frantically on its hands and feet.
Without turning his head, Yubel waved his wand in his right hand.
With a "whoosh," an unseen sharp edge swept past, brutally cleaving the man in two.
Yubel wore an expression of great enjoyment, continuously channeling his magic power. In an instant, the ruptured corpse was torn to pieces, scattering bits of flesh all over the ground.
Seeing this bloody scene, and more importantly, the genuine excitement and madness in her eyes, Philon's alarm bells went off. He immediately conjured a magical shield and whispered, "Be careful, she's a madwoman."
"Is she a magician?" Erii asked, turning her head.
Frillie observed for a while, "Compressing and releasing magic power to instantly form swords invisible to the naked eye is a terrifying cutting magic, and it's very fast."
She glanced at Erii, "But she's nowhere near as good as you."
Hearing Frillie's assessment, Yubel wasn't angry. Instead, he nodded in agreement, "You're right. This is magic, using magical power. For a magician, it's traceable, predictable, and evasive. Unlike you, who truly kills without leaving a trace."
She paused, then helplessly spread her hands. "I really am going to take an exam. Could you please move aside and not block my way?"
"We're leaving too," Frilian said.
"Don't worry," Erii ruffled Philon's hair, "If she misbehaves, I'll kill her."
"Tsk tsk tsk~ Do you have to say such arrogant things in front of me~" Yubel kept smiling, skipping and hopping behind them, but always maintaining a constant speed and distance.
Her cutting magic stems from her innate talent.
Its power and terror lie not in its invisible blade, but in the fact that "if I think it can cut, it can cut."
The power of the cutting magic depends on her subconscious and beliefs; if she believes the mountain can be cut in half, then it will work.
Conversely, if she thinks defensive magic like magic shields is no good, then it's no good. After all, the purpose of defensive magic is defense, and she uses it often herself. She can't deny herself on a subconscious level, can she?
As for the damage cap, it is still limited by one's own magic power.
Erii, on the other hand, exudes a mysterious and unknown aura that is impossible for her to see through or fathom, leaving her with absolutely no knowledge or concept of her.
Therefore, she knew she couldn't beat Erii and was unwilling to try to fight her.
Otherwise, given her witch-like nature, she would have long since been unable to suppress her eagerness and would have seriously challenged Erii.
……
And so they walked down the mountain, one after the other.
As the trees thinned out, a breathtaking panorama unfolded before our eyes.
The flat land is covered with greenery, and a wide lake lies there quietly like a goddess's teardrop, with a majestic city sitting on an island in the middle of the lake.
The location of the Northern Branch of the Continental Magic Association, in the magical city of Visaster!
This place is undoubtedly a pilgrimage site for all mages in the northern region. Most of the people living and working in the city are mages. Looking from afar, not only Philon, but even Erii and Shutark could vaguely feel the abundant magical energy fluctuations, like the ebb and flow of waves.
"We've finally arrived. We've been traveling together for so long, there's no need to be on guard anymore, is there?" Yubel stretched and leaned closer, also looking over.
"You're such a chatterbox. You keep talking to yourself even when I'm not paying attention to you," Philon said casually.
"Let me guess, you're also going to take the assessment?" Yubel's tone shifted, a glint of malice appearing in his narrow eyes. "If we kill you here, we'll have two less competitors."
"Hmm?" Erii remained silent, simply tilting her head to look at her.
"Eri is easily taken seriously by jokes, so don't be reckless," Frilian kindly reminded her, while also threatening Yubel, this troublemaker, to stop messing around.
"Oh my gosh~ You guys are so scary~" Yubel trembled and hugged her arms.
"The acting is so fake," Hugh Tarek complained.
Perhaps because they were getting closer to Vessost, the rest of the journey was uneventful, with no more surprise attacks from bounty hunters.
But Frillie warned not to let her guard down, saying that those who came were just hounds, and the real master was still lurking in the shadows, waiting for his chance.
"Sigh, I was planning to visit an old friend," Frillie muttered.
Due to the repeated attacks, they had to change their route and increase their speed, which completely disrupted their original plan.
Upon entering the city, they went straight to the top-level Magic Association branch without hesitation, without even booking a hotel.
Fortunately, there are still three days left before the assessment begins.
Frillie initially didn't want to participate, but she couldn't resist Philon's repeated persuasion, so both master and apprentice signed up.
"What are your plans during our assessment period?" Philon asked.
"Of course, it's to hone my combat skills and take on some commissioned missions to earn money!" As Hugh Tarek spoke, he had the feeling that his parents had gone back to their hometown and he was left to manage his own allowance.
"Where's Erii?" Philon asked again.
"Take a bath!" Erii muttered, her armpits and groin feeling sticky and uncomfortable, and she could practically rub off fragrant mud balls from her body.
