Erii: A Journey Through the Heavens Begins with Frilian
Chapter 124 The Red-Haired Girl Next Door Across the Street
Chapter 124 The Red-Haired Girl Next Door Across the Street
Erii's life living alone in a foreign country begins.
The money she borrowed from the gang members was enough to support her for a long time. Seeing that there was no movement across the street, she carried her bag and walked to a nearby supermarket, where she bought a lot of daily necessities, drinks and food.
I passed by an old restaurant and ordered their signature traditional dish, fish and chips.
It was indeed very traditional; the room was filled with elderly people, and a group photo of three generations of chefs hung on the wall.
The Third Hokage skillfully tossed the prepared ingredients into the oil, while Erii watched intently from the side. Seeing Erii's sacred and solemn expression, the Third Hokage added two more pieces of fried fish to her plate.
The piping hot fish and chips are served, wrapped in vintage parchment paper, and placed on a plate.
Erii couldn't wait to find a corner to sit down.
The thick fries weren't served with ketchup, but instead sprinkled with salt and white vinegar, which gave them a unique flavor, but they were definitely not that delicious.
In terms of personal taste, Erii said it was not as good as McDonald's.
The fish is cod, and the crispy outer crust is made from a mixture of flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and ice-cold beer, with salt and black pepper likely added as well.
She took a bite, the scalding heat filling her mouth, the joy of the fried food shooting straight to the top of her head.
The pastry is golden brown, thin and crispy, with a surprising bubbly texture, while the cod inside is fresh and tender, and the protein is wonderfully enhanced by repeated high-temperature cooking.
It evokes a feeling of returning to tempura, which seems to resonate with Erii's eating habits.
Oh, I see~
"Boss, one to go, and a bottle of Coke too."
She leisurely pushed her shopping cart, which she had paid the deposit for and was brimming with supplies, and carried fish and chips in her hand as she went home.
After tidying up her belongings, Erii went out to take a stroll around the neighborhood, hoping to spot any strangely behaving cats or owls circling around with envelopes in their hands.
"Hey Harry, come and get me if you want me!"
Dudley's laughter drifted from the nearby community park, instantly filling Erii with disgust.
She followed the sound and saw four or five tall boys surrounding a thin boy, constantly bursting into mocking laughter.
The leader, Dali, raised his arm, holding a pair of round-framed glasses in his hand, with a broken temple secured with tape.
His frame was already large, and with all that fat, no matter how much Harry jumped, he couldn't reach him.
Dudley deliberately sticks out his belly, knocking Harry to the ground, then takes off running, shouting, "Come and chase me! If you catch me, I'll give it to you!"
Ha blinked hard and staggered to his feet. He had just taken a step when another boy deliberately tripped him. Luckily, there was soft grass in front of him, otherwise he would have broken his front teeth.
Harry still ended up with a mouthful of dirt, his face filled with anger and grievance, his squinting eyes gleaming, but he still shouted at Dudley, "Give it back!"
All he could do was try his best to express his demands; this was his only means of resistance.
"Hahaha! Useless!"
"You're so useless! Without your glasses, you're practically blind!"
"Parasite Harry~ Parasite Harry~ Parasite Harry~"
The others also hurled insults at Harry, and some even spat on his head.
The oldest among them, Dudley, just turned eleven yesterday, and the trip to the zoo was to celebrate his birthday.
Harry was only a little over a month younger than Dudley, and was not the youngest of the children.
However, he was the shortest and thinnest of them all, making it hard to imagine what he had been eating for the past ten years.
Erii was quite certain that the homeless children begging at the mall entrance were all much more robust than Harry.
"Give it back to him." She walked over and gave him a warning.
Upon seeing an adult arrive, a group of children stopped and stared in confusion at the unfamiliar woman they had never seen before.
"Who are you?" Dali wasn't afraid at all and asked directly.
"Your neighbor lives right across the street from you," Erii said, taking two steps forward to help Harry up and handing him a handkerchief.
"Thank you," Harry whispered hurriedly. In his slightly blurry vision, he could only see a tall, red-haired woman with very fair skin and a beautiful voice.
Dudley glared at the two of them, annoyed. "Harry's my cousin. He made a mistake, and I was disciplining him. What's it to you!"
He was used to being domineering at home, and his parents' pampering made him incredibly arrogant. He thought that everyone in the world should go along with him, and that no matter how big a mess he made, his parents would always clean up the mess.
"Want some?" Erii suddenly picked up the fish and chips in her hand, and the lingering aroma wafted out from between the gaps.
The fat pig Dudley's appetite was immediately whetted, and he pounced on it impatiently, saying, "You know what's good for you."
Snapped-
The crisp sound of a slap echoed throughout the small park.
Dudley fell to the ground, dazedly touching his cheek, which was swollen like a pig's head, as a sharp, burning pain erupted from him.
"Ahhh~"
The pig-like screams came to an abrupt halt, because opening his mouth would cause his rapidly swollen and red lips to swell, and in the blink of an eye, even his lips looked like sausages.
Erii controlled her strength perfectly, ensuring that the force penetrated the skin and flesh without causing serious injury. If she were to slap him casually, this pig would explode on the spot.
She picked up the glasses that had fallen to the ground, put them on Harry herself, patted his dry shoulder, and said with utmost reassurance, "Don't be afraid, I'm here."
Harry stared blankly at Erii, then looked at Dudley, whose face had turned into a lava volcano, and showed a suppressed laugh.
"All of you, come here." Erii put one hand on her hip, displaying the domineering posture of a leader of children.
Several other boys approached, trembling.
They wanted to run, but Erii's gaze was so terrifying that their legs felt like lead, and they couldn't take a single step.
Clap clap clap!
The hand blurred into afterimages, and the group, resembling dominoes, fell one after another towards Dali, all clutching their increasingly swollen faces.
"If you dare to bully others again, I'll slap you every day—once in the morning, once at noon, once in the evening, and once in the middle of the night when I run into your bedroom to do it again." Erii gave a gentle smile.
The ten-year-old kids were so frightened that their faces turned pale, and the light in their eyes dimmed, as if they had lost all hope in life.
"Get lost," Erii scoffed.
They were overjoyed at being granted a pardon and fled the place in a panic.
"You just wait!" Dali was clearly unwilling to give up, crying, shouting and running away.
"I think I should go back, otherwise I'll get in your way. Your aunt and uncle are very troublesome and scary people," Harry said sensibly.
"No need," Erii said nonchalantly, sitting on the swing and tossing fish and chips into his lap. "Eat."
Harry's throat bobbed uncontrollably as he smelled the aroma.
He opened the bag, and saw soggy fries and steaming fried fish. "Thank you, I don't know your name yet."
"Eri, Uesugi, what about you?"
"Harry Potter".
Having never eaten fish and chips before, he couldn't resist any longer. He grabbed some and stuffed them into his mouth, making little whimpering noises like a kitten.
This is a ten-year-old child, but his bright eyes are already full of maturity and understanding that does not belong to his age, and he exudes a heartbreaking obedience.
When I first read the novel and watched the movie, Erii felt a deep connection with Harry. Despite their different backgrounds and experiences, they shared a common sense of loneliness and sadness.
"Cough cough cough————"
Suddenly, Harry, his face flushed, swallowed a piece of fried fish and cried out in utter terror, "Neighbor, run!"
