Chapter 81 The Rebels in the Desert
Kou Sha held a small but very thoughtful welcome ceremony for Gao Ge.
The rebels were not well-supplied, and even their leader, Kosa, didn't have much of a good stuff.
At least Gao Ge felt somewhat gratified looking at Kou Sha's simple dwelling.
At least this isn't the kind of freeloader who's barely fought a few battles before indulging in pleasure.
After a hearty meal and drinks, Kou Sha invited Gao Ge to his conference room and finally began to discuss serious matters.
"So, Mr. Gao Ge, what brings you here this time? Do you support the resistance?"
"Do you think I support the resistance? Stop talking nonsense, I'm here to join the resistance."
Gao Ge waved his hand and, seeing Kou Sha's shocked expression, said...
"You have no chance of winning if you continue like this. What was your original plan?"
Seeing Kou Sha's hesitant expression, Gao Ge didn't hold back and spoke directly.
"Taking your insignificant force straight to the capital? Do you think the lives of your men are a joke? What makes you think you can succeed by simply launching a full-scale attack?"
Gao Ge's words made Kou Sha's face turn a deep purplish-red.
In fact, what Gao Ge said was not wrong. If the original plot hadn't been that Luffy happened to appear at this point and defeated Crocodile.
Given the disparity in troop strength and equipment between the Kingdom's army and the rebels, these 50,000 men were simply sent to their deaths.
"But what can I do! People can't even afford to eat, and that tyrant is still recklessly using dance powder, turning more oases into deserts!"
Mentioning dance fans, Kosa's neck veins bulged.
"Am I supposed to just stand by and watch this country be buried forever by the desert, becoming nothing more than a piece of history?!"
The so-called "dancing powder" is a magical powder that can summon rain. When used, it creates a green mist that floats into the air and can artificially induce rain.
But the price is that the other directions will lose rainwater.
Dancing powder is very harmful, but changes in rainfall alone are not enough to cause such severe desertification.
After all, the effects of dancing powder are only temporary.
What Koza didn't know was that what truly turned this country into a desert was Crocodile's power.
Crocodile, a Logia-type Devil Fruit user, spent several years almost single-handedly and permanently altered the country's topography.
And then this freakish guy lost to Luffy...
"This isn't resistance, it's not revolution, it's just plain courting death."
Gao Ge looked into Kou Sha's eyes and asked,
Do you believe me?
Thinking of the oasis of Joba, Kosha slowly nodded. At this point, he no longer knew who he could trust.
This man, who had gained Vivi's approval and brought hope to Joba, was at least more trustworthy than the king.
"Very good, now do as I say."
It's unrealistic for a group of people to storm Alabasta's capital, even with the addition of the Demon Slayer Corps.
The entire Alabasta has a standing army of 600,000, the vast majority of whom are elite troops guarding the capital.
The idea of a direct assault is pure nonsense.
To be honest, Gao Ge isn't good at this kind of thing either; he's better at working alone.
But life is about trying things you've never done before.
The first thing to do is to make the rebels less like a bunch of bandits.
The entire Katariya region, including its 50,000 troops, was under a rationing system, and almost everyone except a few officers was in a state of semi-starvation.
In this state, they seem listless and weak, let alone conducting drills.
Most people in the military camp rest in the shade, as sitting or lying down saves more energy than standing.
Several rebel soldiers, hearing the commotion outside the tent, curiously poked their heads out and shouted.
"What are you rushing off to? Are you on a march? I haven't heard of that!"
"What are you doing, marching? Are you out of your mind from the heat? Feed us! Who knows how much food we have? Hurry up, hurry up, or we might miss it!"
Upon hearing that there was food, the few people who had been huddled on the ground in the tent instantly perked up.
Ignoring their weapons, they took off running outside.
Such scenes are common throughout the military camp.
Gao Ge also wanted to make a big pot to cook porridge and meat, but he didn't have the means; what he had was wheat, not rice.
Even the rice wasn't hulled. So when the rebels arrived at the canteen, the carts and boxes were piled high with bread.
In addition, on the nearby charcoal fire, pieces of roasted meat were emitting an enticing aroma.
What's going on? Is this over? Or is it that after this meal, we're ready to fight a major battle?
"Line up! What kind of mess is this! When will we start handing out bread?!"
"Each person will receive three whole wheat bread rolls and one slice of roasted pork chop. You can get more bread if you're still hungry!"
It's impossible not to be full; the original Minecraft product is all about large portions that will keep you full.
Not to mention these rebels, Gao Ge could fill up his hunger and saturation levels with just three loaves of bread and a pork chop.
The queue gradually straightened out, and the rebels began to line up in an orderly fashion to get their food.
The resistance was able to rally because of Koza's leadership and prestige.
With Kou Sha standing in front of them, these people were quite obedient.
People were talking about it; the bread and meat distributed today were almost three days' worth for them normally.
Everyone was curious about what had gotten into Kosa that made him do this.
Strangely, Kosa didn't say anything, but simply told everyone to recover their health, eat and drink their fill, and then begin basic training.
The same thing happened on the second day, and on the third day as well.
After several days of good food, although the rebels didn't know what had happened, their overall morale had improved significantly.
At least from their appearance, no one would think they were a group of refugees.
To be honest, Kou Sha didn't know what Gao Ge was up to either.
The food looked as if it had appeared out of thin air, but unless he was a god, he couldn't keep producing food out of thin air like that.
"Only when they are full will they have the energy to think, instead of their minds being filled with how to take another breath and how to stuff more food into their mouths."
Gao Ge looked at Kou Sha, who seemed completely bewildered, and continued,
"You need to let them know what you're fighting for."
"What else could it be for? To overthrow the king's tyranny?"
...
Gao Ge glanced at Kou Sha helplessly. "Come on, tell me, what exactly is the king's tyranny like?"
Kou Sha clenched his fist and said angrily, "He abused dance powder, isn't that enough?"
"Dancing powder affects the weather, affects rainfall, and affects the harvest."
Gao Ge shook his head and glanced at Kou Sha. "Then whose land is it?"
Koza suddenly fell silent.
"The land belongs to royalty, local nobles, and wealthy merchants."
"That's settled then. What does overthrowing the king's tyranny have to do with them? All the rebels want now is a meal!"
