Reborn, my online friend is the real me.
Chapter 21: Meeting an Online Friend
Su Yu did not go home during the May Day holiday.
It's not that I don't want to go back, it's just that the journey there and back takes two days, and I can't stay at home for more than a few days before I have to rush back.
Li Xiulan nagged him on the phone for ten minutes, and finally said, "Then you should eat properly and stop eating instant noodles all the time."
"Mom, don't worry, I'll have hot pot with lamb every day."
In fact, Su Yu did not eat instant noodles or hot pot.
He ate in the cafeteria for a few days, and spent the rest of his time holed up in his dorm writing scripts.
The new script is called "My Teenage Years".
Su Yu had seen this movie in his previous life and remembered the general plot: an ordinary girl had a crush on the school heartthrob, and by chance, she met a "troublemaker" in the school through a lucky letter. The two became friends after a fight, and eventually developed a sweet first love.
The story wasn't particularly original, but it excelled in its realistic details and delicate emotions, sparking a wave of nostalgia when it was released.
Su Yu didn't remember everything, and he didn't need to remember it all. What he needed to do was to build the framework and fill it with his own things: the visual language he learned in photography, the audience psychology he accumulated when he was an internet celebrity in his previous life, and his new understanding of youth in this life.
He spent three days writing and drawing in his notebook, producing a seven- or eight-page outline, five or six pages of character biographies, and finally a storyboard sketch, which he was quite satisfied with.
.......
On the fifth day of the long holiday, May 5th, the sky in Beijing finally cleared up.
Su Yu woke up naturally, and when he opened his eyes it was already 9:30.
Wang Boxue and his girlfriend went to Qingdao for a trip, and Lu Yang went out to collect folk songs. He was the only one in the dormitory, so quiet that he could hear his own breathing.
He lingered in bed for ten minutes, then got up to brush his teeth and wash his face, made himself a cup of instant coffee, and sat down at his computer to continue writing his script.
Suddenly, QQ beeped.
Su Yu clicked on it and saw that Anxi's profile picture was flashing.
Anxi: "Su Yu! I'm back in Beijing!"
Su Yu paused for a moment, then typed rapidly on the keyboard: "You're back in Beijing? Didn't you say early March? It's already May."
Anxi: "I've been dragging my feet on work and can't get away. I just got back two days ago. Are you in Beijing?"
Su Yu: "Yes, I didn't go home for May Day."
Anxi sent a smiley face: "That's perfect, let's meet up."
Su Yu's fingers stopped on the keyboard, and he met.
We've known each other for almost two years, from forums to QQ, from the college entrance exam to Berlin, we've chatted countless days and nights, but we've never met in person.
Anxi had always been a vague image in his mind: rich, idle, talkative, stubborn but soft-hearted. He had never thought about what she looked like.
"Sure, when?"
"Noon today? Xidan, is that okay?"
Su Yu thought for a moment. Xidan wasn't far from Beijing Film Academy, just a few subway stops away: "Okay, how can I recognize you? I've never seen you before."
"Let's send photos; you send mine, I send yours, so we don't not recognize each other later."
Su Yu flipped through the photos on his computer and found that he didn't have any decent ones.
Most of them were selfies taken casually while taking pictures of homework, and either the lighting was bad or the expressions were grotesque.
After looking for a while, he finally chose a photo taken at the Berlin Film Festival; he was wearing that dark blue suit, holding the Golden Bear trophy, with the red carpet of the Berlin Film Palace in the background.
This photo was taken by Luo Jing. The composition is good, the lighting is good, and most importantly, it makes him look slimmer.
He sent the photo, and Anxi replied a few seconds later: "The suit is nice, but the tie color is awful."
"Can you give me a compliment?"
Anxi: "He's more handsome than the tie, okay?"
Su Yu's lips curled up. "That's more like it. Where's your photo?"
Anxi was silent for a few seconds, then sent over a photo.
Su Yu clicked on it and saw a short-haired girl with hair that reached her ears, wearing a pair of large black-rimmed glasses, with slightly dark skin, and two rows of silver braces that glittered when she smiled.
Wearing a white T-shirt and denim overalls, he stood at the entrance of some unknown park and made a peace sign.
Su Yu stared at the photo for three seconds, then typed: "Are you sure this is you?"
"Nonsense, who else could it be but me?"
Su Yu looked at the photo again and felt that something was not right, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
The person in the photo actually has nice features, but they are obscured by glasses and braces. The dark skin is probably due to the lighting.
He zoomed in for a closer look and suddenly noticed something: the girl's eyebrows and eyes looked a bit like Liu Yifei's.
"Anxi, are you and Liu Yifei related?" Su Yu typed.
Anxi sent a question mark: "What do you mean?"
"Your eyebrows and eyes are a bit like Liu Yifei's, but your looks are nowhere near as good."
Anxi sent an angry emoji: "You jerk, I'm going to beat you up if we meet; but a lot of people say I look like her..."
Su Yu replied with a smile, "Okay, okay, I was wrong. How tall are you? Don't let me mistake you for someone else."
"170, what about you?"
"Then don't wear high heels, I'm 178cm tall."
"..."
.......
After sending the photos, Su Yu turned off his computer and started rummaging through drawers and closets looking for clothes.
I looked at all sorts of clothes on the bed for ages—dark, light, crew neck, V-neck—before finally choosing a black crew neck top to pair with my dark blue jeans and white canvas shoes.
I looked at myself in the full-length mirror behind the dormitory door and thought it looked alright, so I used a comb to wet my hair and pressed it down.
He put five hundred yuan, his phone, and his keys into his pocket, and then went out.
May in Beijing already feels like early summer; the sun is shining brightly, and it feels warm and cozy on your skin.
Su Yu took the subway to Xidan, exited from Exit B, stood in front of Jintai Department Store, and squinted as he scanned the area.
Xidan was packed with people, like dumplings being dropped into a pot; young people were strolling around everywhere.
Su Yu stood by the flower bed, tiptoeing and looking around, but after searching for a long time, he couldn't find anyone who matched the characteristics in the photo.
He was about to take out his phone to send a message when he caught a glimpse of a red figure walking through the crowd.
Bright red tracksuit, white T-shirt, canvas shoes, black backpack.
A small Berlin bear hung on the backpack, and a silk scarf was tied around its neck.
Su Yu's gaze moved down from Berlin Bear to the man's face.
She has short hair, black-rimmed glasses, and her skin is a bit fairer than in the photos; she has braces, but they aren't as exaggerated as in the photos, and her dimples are faintly visible when she smiles.
Judging by appearance, Su Yu is about 1.7 meters tall, while Su Yu is about 1.78 meters tall. From a distance, the two appear to be about the same height.
Anxi walked up to him, stopped, tilted her head slightly to look at him, and then smiled.
When she smiled, her braces were visible, and they glittered briefly in the sunlight.
"Su Yu?"
"Anxi?"
They both spoke at the same time, then fell silent.
Looking at the girl in front of him, Su Yu had only one thought in his mind: It's a pity about her height and her average looks.
She's not ugly, but she's definitely not pretty.
She's of average appearance; on the Beijing Film Academy campus, she's the kind of person you wouldn't turn around to look at a second time.
He quickly suppressed the thought. It wasn't like they were there for a blind date. They were meeting online friends, and as long as they got along, it didn't matter what they looked like.
Anxi was also sizing him up, her gaze sweeping over him from head to toe before finally settling on his face. She tilted her head and said, "You're thinner than in the photos."
You're fairer than in the photos.
Anxi looked down at her arm, then looked up at him: "Are you subtly implying that I photoshopped the picture?"
"I didn't say that, you said it yourself."
Anxi rolled her eyes at him, then reached out and took the Berlin bear off her backpack, holding it up in front of him: "Which souvenir shop did you buy this bear from? Its face is so round, it's almost a ball."
Su Yu took the teddy bear and looked at it: "Isn't a round face good? A round face is cute."
"You call this cute? This is called chubby cheeks."
Su Yu smiled, and An Qian smiled too.
The slight awkwardness between the two dissipated in that smile.
"Let's go eat first; I'm hungry." Anxi hung the bear back on her backpack and clapped her hands.
What would you like to eat?
Are you familiar with Xidan? I'm not very familiar with it.
Su Yu wasn't familiar with the area either, but he had been there once and knew there were places to eat upstairs in Joy City: "Joy City, let's go."
