Chapter 13 Gray Wood Short Bow (Please continue reading)

After Ram finished explaining the points, Richard hadn't even had a chance to speak.

Andrea seemed to have sensed something and asked, "Richard, you've only just arrived, why are you asking about points? Did that beautiful woman invite you on a mission?"

"Wow, really? Richard, you arrived more than a month later than us, and you're already going out to do missions in the wilderness to earn points? I'm so envious!" Courteney, the beautiful woman Ram was pursuing, said enviously.

Although the tone was slightly exaggerated, it also seemed to indicate that none of the people present had ever done a mission in the wild.

"Hey, none of you guys have been there?" Richard realized he couldn't hide it any longer, so he stopped denying it.

As long as he doesn't reveal the specifics of the mission, it shouldn't matter much.

"Of course, I'm new here and haven't learned a single magic trick yet. It's too dangerous for us to go on missions in the wild right now! I really envy you, having a beautiful senior to guide you," Stephania teased with a smile.

"It's not that we can't go now, but generally speaking, it will be another month or two, after some people have learned the magic tricks, that our freshmen will gradually start forming teams to do missions and complete the 30-point assessment requirement for half a year," Andrea explained.

"Yes, the first six months are the easiest, with only 30 points. You can basically complete three to five tasks. So in the early stages, everyone will spend their time practicing meditation and magic tricks," Ram added.

Not long after lunch, Richard received a short bow and a bag of black-feathered arrows, which had been specially delivered to him by his senior, Meiluo, in his dormitory.

This short bow is said to be made from a type of extremely tough wood from the south of the mainland—ash wood—for the bow body, while the bowstring is made from the sinew of a swamp bull.

He thought the bow belonged to Senior Sister Meiluo, but when he pulled the bowstring, he realized he was wrong, terribly wrong.

Because he had just used at least 70% of his strength, he still hadn't been able to draw the small, short bow to its full length.

Richard, regaining his senses, was greatly surprised, considering he possessed near-knight-level strength!

Richard examined the dusty, short bow in his hand closely.

He soon discovered that this unassuming short bow was actually well-made, especially the bow arm, which was made of silk made from the back or hooves of a bull, mixed with fish glue, and then glued together with pieces of bull horn, giving it amazing elasticity.

It seems that what Senior Sister Meiluo said was true. If it were made of ordinary cow tendon, he could easily break the bow arm with half his strength.

With a fine bow in hand, Richard was in high spirits and couldn't resist the urge to try it out. He immediately drew a black-feathered arrow, nocked it on the bowstring, and assumed a shooting stance.

[Host detected using a crossbow. Should energy be consumed to gain inspiration for crossbow use?]

Upon seeing the system's prompt, Richard hesitated for a moment.

He glanced at the remaining 100 energy points. He originally intended to use these energy on the "Rodriguez Meditation Method," but unexpectedly, he couldn't even get started and still needed to deal with a lot of other things.

For now, there's no need to consider meditation!

But he's going on a mission in the wilderness tomorrow, so it seems unnecessary for him to keep the energy points.

Because if everything goes well, he can get more energy points tomorrow.

If something goes wrong, then everything will be over, and keeping the energy points will be a waste.

There's a saying from an ancient time: one of the most painful things in life is "dying before you've spent all your money!"

Having decided to use it, Richard thought for a moment and considered that he would be a ranged archer tomorrow, so it was only natural to add a crossbow!

Even if the improvement from adding a bow and crossbow is minimal.

So Richard firmly dragged the slider to the far right and selected "Yes!"

Instantly, Richard's soul was pulled into the dream space as usual, and possessed a figure. The figure held a gray wooden short bow in its left hand and drew black-feathered arrows with its right hand, firing them rapidly.

Each arrow shot brought Richard a wealth of insights into controlling the greywood shortbow.

But this time was different because he had already planned in his mind that the target of tomorrow's battle would be a large number of black widow spiders, so his arrows had to be shot quickly and accurately!

In comparison, strength is not that important.

Because, as Meiluo had said, these black widow spiders were just ordinary wild animals.

With the ox sinew bowstring of the gray wood shortbow, he only needed to draw it halfway to inflict fatal damage on the black widow spider.

Guided by this idea, Richard was inspired!

The series of actions—drawing the arrow, pulling the bow, aiming, and shooting—are completed in one smooth motion, with the speed increasing rapidly, almost reaching a rate of one arrow per half second!

With complete immersion, time in the dream almost flew by.

When Richard came to his senses again, a line of text appeared before his eyes!

[Ding! Host has mastered the secret technique: Rapid Fire with Short Bow]

Richard then looked at the skills section of the panel again:

[Skills]: Clavier's Breathing Technique (Proficiency 2%), Cornell Swordsmanship (Proficiency 8%), Bow and Crossbow (Mastery 31%, Secret Technique: Shortbow Rapid Fire)

[Shortbow Rapid Fire: A special skill that allows for the continuous, rapid, and accurate firing of arrows within a short period of time, consuming a large amount of stamina. Requires a shortbow.]

This seems to be a skill created from inspiration?

Richard was overjoyed, clenching his fists to show his excitement. So this was the right way to use inspiration!

The archery skills I learned this time came at just the right time!

This gave Richard some confidence for tomorrow's field mission!

According to Richard's estimation, Meiluo's group should all be senior students who, like her, had already joined the Ignis School last year.

Although Richard and the others were all considered first-level wizard apprentices, the gap between new and old students was enormous.

Richard crossed his arms and paced back and forth in the dormitory, pondering tomorrow's tasks.

Soon after, he discovered another problem: he had nothing on him that could save his life.

I remember that among the choices Seras gave him before, there was the Frostbite, a relatively precious alchemical bomb that could be used to save his life in the wild.

With a sudden thought, Richard quickly pulled out the heavy bag of gold dinars that his father had stuffed into his arms.

After counting, there were exactly 200 coins. Richard picked them up, opened the door, and walked straight towards the trading area.

Even at night, the trading area was still bustling with people and brightly lit.

However, everyone's voices were relatively restrained when bargaining, mostly whispering, so it didn't seem noisy.

The trading area is not large; it mainly consists of a long street.

There were many temporary stalls set up by apprentices on both sides of the long street, while the shops along the street had official names and GG slogans, which were obviously much more formal.

Richard first took a quick stroll around. The items on the temporary stalls were quite messy, and there were many that he didn't recognize at all.

Without the company of acquaintances, one must rely entirely on their own eyesight to distinguish between genuine and fake.

Clearly, buying life-saving items from a stall was too risky, so Richard turned and went into a proper shop on the street.

The shop entrance is decorated with glass test tubes and herbal-shaped GGs, and it has an interesting name: Sanders Cottage.
