A priest in North America, what the hell is the Demon Gate system?
Chapter 84 The Priest's Deposit Slip
Leon and Ferné crossed the ruins in front of the shop, bypassed the police officers taking photos as evidence and the onlookers, and walked towards the street corner where the car was parked.
"What kind of brain circuitry does it take to put jam in raw chicken?!" Furneus was still wiping his mouth with a tissue.
Li Ang smiled but didn't say anything.
Their car was parked behind another corner building, a two-minute walk away.
But Li Ang suddenly stopped because someone was standing next to their car.
The man was wearing a long, dark gray coat, with his hood pulled low, obscuring his face.
He was squatting next to the driver's side door, holding a thin metal strip in his hand, and skillfully stuffing it into the door crack.
"You dare to break into my car?"
A red glint flashed in Li Ang's eyes as he prepared to step forward and teach the other party a lesson, but before he could take a step, a gust of wind blew past him.
The nun's figure flashed out like a gust of wind, her right leg raised high, her calf, encased in 80D white stockings, leaving a white afterimage in the air. Then, the soles of her small leather shoes, about 3 centimeters high, were firmly imprinted on the car thief's chest.
"Clang—!" It was actually the sound of kicking into metal.
The man screamed and his body bounced off the car door like a ball, tumbling twice in the air before crashing heavily to the ground.
The man's coat was turned up, revealing a manhole cover tied to his chest, with a faint shoe print visible on it.
The hat fell off as he tumbled, revealing a face that looked only sixteen or seventeen years old. He was a black boy, thin and small with prominent cheekbones and arms as thin as two clotheslines, clearly malnourished.
The boy clutched his chest and coughed several times, a trace of saliva hanging from the corner of his mouth. It took him a while to recover.
He looked up and his gaze fell on Fenneus, where the white woman in a nun's habit was looking down at him with disdain.
Then he saw a young Chinese man dressed as a priest standing a few steps away.
The boy's pupils contracted sharply.
"Father...!!"
He sprang up from the ground as if struck by something, his face showing a look of terror and panic.
He didn't pick up the crowbar that had fallen to the ground. Instead, he turned and ran deeper into the alley, staggering and nearly falling several times. But he didn't stop and soon disappeared into the shadows of the alley filled with garbage.
Li Ang bent down, picked up the crowbar from the ground, weighed it in his hand, and then casually tossed it into the roadside trash heap.
"You really don't see this kind of thing in Uldum. Everyone says America is very divided, and it's true."
Without saying another word, the car started and turned onto a slightly wider main road, heading towards downtown Philadelphia.
About twenty minutes later, the car stopped in front of a building.
The building was a six-story off-white marble building. The main entrance portico was supported by four tall Roman columns, and above the lintel was an elegant inscription in cursive English: Arteli Art Services.
Two bronze lion statues stand on either side of the gate, each standing on a shield, giving it a museum-like feel.
A deep red carpet was laid at the entrance, extending all the way down the steps, a stark contrast to the scene on Kensington Street just moments before.
"This place...it's almost reminding me of the First Temple." Fernéus looked at the building through the car window, his expression somewhat subtle.
"That's the magic of capitalism."
Li Ang turned off the engine and removed the key. The two got out of the car and walked up the red carpeted steps. The waiter next to them immediately pushed open the heavy brass-framed glass door.
The scene inside the door was even more magnificent.
The hall floor was covered with black and white marble tiles, polished to a shine, clearly reflecting the image of the huge crystal chandelier on the ceiling.
The reception desk was made of a single piece of dark walnut wood, with an old-fashioned brass desk lamp and a brand-new computer on it. A woman in a black suit was sitting behind the desk, intently typing on the keyboard in front of the computer screen.
Several oil paintings hung on the wall, all of which appeared to be genuine. They mostly depicted early Philadelphia cityscapes, and the frames were gilded, gleaming with a warm luster under the light.
Several sets of leather sofas were placed on both sides of the hall. On the coffee table between the sofas were the day's newspapers and a few financial magazines. Several well-dressed middle-aged men were sitting on the sofas, talking quietly, holding coffee cups in their hands.
The moment Leon and Ferné walked in, all eyes in the hall turned to them.
A Chinese priest and a nun—this combination certainly seems somewhat out of place here.
The receptionist looked up, smiled, and asked, "Hello, how can I help you?"
Li Ang walked to the front desk, opened the appointment message, and turned the screen towards the woman: "Hello, I have an appointment to pick up something this afternoon."
The woman glanced at the appointment information on her phone screen and nodded: "Okay, please wait a moment while I check."
She typed a few words on the keyboard, then looked up and said, "Mr. Li, your appointment has been confirmed. Please follow me."
She came out from behind the front desk, gestured for them to enter, and then led Leon and Fernéth through the hall and into a carpeted corridor.
There are several closed doors on both sides of the corridor, with numbers marked in gold lettering.
The woman stopped in front of a door at the end of the corridor, pushed it open, and inside was a small room of about twenty square meters, decorated as elegantly as the outside. In the middle was a round table and several chairs, with mineral water and glasses on the table.
"Please have a seat here for a moment, our account manager will be here to assist you shortly." The woman smiled and left, closing the door behind her.
Li Ang sat down in the chair and glanced around the small room.
Fennes also sat down, crossed his legs, and pressed his slightly fleshy calves against his knees, creating a crease in his white socks.
"This place looks pretty much right," Fenneus muttered.
After waiting for about two minutes, there was a few light knocks on the door, and then it was pushed open.
The woman who entered looked to be in her early twenties. She was wearing a white shirt with a black pencil skirt, a long, thin dark blue scarf tied around the collar of her shirt, 40D black stockings, and black high heels.
Her long, golden hair was styled into a neat bun, revealing her slender neck. Her makeup was exquisite, her smile was appropriate, and she exuded the aura of a professional elite.
"Hello Mr. Li, I'm your account manager, Barbara." She extended her hand, shook hands with Li Ang, and then nodded politely to Fernéus.
Li Ang took the document Jonah had given him from his pocket, placed it on the table, and pushed it over.
This document looks quite old; the edges are worn and frayed.
Barbara took the document with both hands, flipped through it, and her expression first smiled, then gradually froze into surprise. She then looked up at Li Ang.
"Mr. Li... are you sure you want to take this?"
Li Ang frowned: "Is there a problem? Are there any extra fees? Or are there late fees?"
"No, no, no, it has nothing to do with the fees." Barbara quickly shook her head and put the documents on the table.
"But... this item is a bit special."
"What's so special about it?" Li Ang sat up, his interest piqued.
"It...is haunted."
