A priest in North America, what the hell is the Demon Gate system?
Chapter 2 The Priest and the Little Boy
A slightly yellowed white SUV was parked in the church's small parking lot.
Li Ang pulled open the slightly stuck car door handle, and the hot air from inside the car, mixed with the smell of artificial leather, rushed straight to Li Ang's nose.
"Ah, the RAV4, the 2008 model, is truly a classic."
Looking at the extremely simple interior, Li Ang couldn't help but sigh. Back in 08, joint venture cars dominated the market, but now domestic brands have already caught up and surpassed them.
Li Ang plopped down on the hot floor, but then immediately stood up again—it was freaking hot!
Given the unpleasant smell inside the car, Li Ang awkwardly fumbled for his keys, started the car, and then turned on the air conditioning and opened the windows to let in some fresh air.
At that moment, the clatter of leather shoes mixed with the clanging of clappers came from the direction of the church.
Li Ang turned his head and saw Sister Nia carrying a large leather suitcase in both hands as she walked towards him.
"Father Li, the exorcism supplies left by Father Andrew... are all here..."
Li Ang subconsciously locked onto the adaptive headlights that were moving up and down.
"As expected, American cars have more aggressive headlights."
Having no intention of continuing as a car reviewer, Li Ang strode forward and took the suitcase. Inside, he heard the sound of glass bottles clashing with metal. Li Ang had opened it out of curiosity before; it contained some holy water, crucifixes, and the like—not bad as props to soothe people's hearts.
Seeing Nia get into the passenger seat, Li Ang then tried to open the trunk, but the trunk didn't respond. Li Ang sighed, opened the back door, and threw the box inside.
The car drove along the asphalt road in the small town, with cornfields on both sides, tall and straight. Sunlight shone through the gaps in the cornfields and swept across Li Ang's face. To be honest, there are a lot of cornfields in America.
"The client is Dani Weil, a single mother who lives in the former textile factory workers' area in the north of town. She claimed 33 minutes ago that her son was possessed by a demon."
Sister Nia, sitting in the passenger seat, was organizing the commission in her notebook, her delicate brows slightly furrowed.
"Father Li, shouldn't we report this to the diocese first?"
Exorcism is divided into minor exorcism and major exorcism. Minor exorcism usually involves dealing with mentally unstable people or places that are suspected to be unclean. It is done by sprinkling holy water and saying a few words of prayer.
The major exorcism is much stricter, and can only be carried out if there is a genuine suspicion of a demon appearing. First, a mental evaluation must be performed on the person, then an application must be submitted to the diocese, and after the bishop approves it, an exorcist priest will be assigned to handle the matter.
Li Ang swerved to avoid the potholes in the ground and said seriously:
"When we arrive, we will first conduct a mental evaluation. If it is just a mental abnormality, then it falls under the category of minor exorcism, and we have the right to handle it ourselves."
"But if it really is possessed, by the time we report it to the diocese and request an exorcist priest, it might be too late. Sister Nia, we're racing against time with the devil! I'll take the risk!"
Sister Nia blushed at Li Ang's words, feeling somewhat ashamed.
"Father Li is so considerate of the faithful, even risking punishment. What kind of faith is this! I'm so shallow..."
Ignoring Nia's wild thoughts, Li Ang had already started making his own plans.
[Ding! Sect mission issued: Investigate believers]
[The sect has received a report that a heretical cultivator may be possessing a believer. Deacon, please investigate immediately.]
[Rewards for this task will be announced based on the results of the investigation.]
"I wonder if he's really possessed by a demon, or just going through the phase of teenage angst..."
Li Ang pondered silently. He had no magic at the moment, and the only thing he could rely on was his divine sense. Based on his experience reading novels, divine sense was an important attribute for resisting possession.
But Li Ang immediately shook his head. Since he transmigrated here, he hadn't encountered a single demon or even a supernatural event, let alone any.
"Looks like I'm the only one who's like this in the world. Should I say I don't eat beef?"
"And this request is probably from a rebellious teenager going through puberty. I'll give him two sets of five-year high school entrance exam simulation papers, and that should cure him."
With that thought in mind, the car arrived in front of a large, dilapidated community.
This community was originally a residential area for the families of the town's textile factory. Since the textile factory ceased operations in the last century, it has become increasingly dilapidated. The client's location is on the edge of the residential area.
Li Ang didn't even need to confirm the client's location anymore, because a crowd had already gathered in front of a two-story building.
When people saw Li Ang and Nia get out of the car, they spontaneously made way for them, bowed their heads, made the sign of the cross, and prayed silently.
Li Ang sighed inwardly, sometimes the identity of a priest was really useful. He picked up his suitcase and quickly walked up the steps to the door, preparing to go in and give this American child a shock of Chinese education.
"Father! Save my son!"
As soon as Li Ang stepped into the living room, a beautiful figure knelt down at his feet.
This was a woman with a good figure, chestnut-brown short hair that drooped to her ears, paired with a slightly tight white round-neck T-shirt, and faded jeans that hugged her round... well, that's not the point, Li Ang couldn't help but interrupt his thoughts.
"May the Lord be with you. Are you Mrs. Wells? How is the child?"
Li Ang helped the woman up; her skin was very well-maintained, and she didn't look like she had a child at all.
Mrs. Weil wiped away her tears and nodded:
"Father... Priest, my son, Jack... He's always been a good boy... But since last week, he's suddenly become quiet and withdrawn, and he keeps saying he sees his father, but his father..."
The single mother seemed to become increasingly upset as she thought about it, and she started sobbing again.
"I took him for a psychiatric evaluation, and the doctor only said it was a normal phenomenon during puberty, but suspected he had been exposed to LGBT... and even asked me if he had secretly taken any addictive substances!"
"Although many kids are like this nowadays, our Jack would never... Waaah..."
Li Ang touched his chin, finding it somewhat amusing.
"Isn't this just Jiahao? It's perfectly normal for teenage boys to be like this. I even suspect he's playing some mobile games."
Despite his thoughts, Li Ang still asked softly, "Mrs. Weil, where is Jack now?"
The magnetic voice made Mrs. Wells shudder, as if she had regained some strength.
"He's upstairs right now, and he locked the door himself. I can't open it at all..."
"Pfft, typical rebellious phase..."
Li Ang inwardly complained, but still reassured her aloud, "Don't worry, Mrs. Weil, leave the rest to us."
Then Li Ang turned to look at Nia and found her staring blankly in the direction of the stairs.
"Sister Nia, please take care of Mrs. Weil according to the procedure. I'll go upstairs and handle this."
The nun seemed to snap out of her daze and quickly replied, "Oh, okay! Mrs. Weil, please come over here first. We need to sign an informed consent form for the exorcism..."
Ignoring the two of them, Li Ang stepped onto the stairs leading to the second floor.
"Creak—"
A tooth-grinding sound echoed in the stairwell. The building was clearly quite old and probably drafty, getting colder the higher you went.
Li Ang, holding onto the handrail, had already reached the second floor, and the conversation between Nia and Mrs. Weil downstairs came to an abrupt end.
The second floor was unusually quiet. The corridor had no windows, and although the sun was shining outside, it felt dark, damp, and cold inside.
Arriving at the only locked door, Li Ang took a deep breath, reviewed all the Hengshui chicken soup recipes he had read in his previous life, and then knocked on the door.
"Hey, Jack, it's me, Lee..."
"BOOM—!!"
Before Li Ang could finish speaking, the wooden door in front of him was smashed away by a huge force. Fortunately, Li Ang subconsciously sensed the danger and twisted his body to the side to avoid being hit.
"Croak—!!"
A piercing shriek came from inside the door, and Li Ang felt his head buzzing. He looked up into the door and his pupils shrank!
The attic room, which should have been bright, was now as dark as a coffin. The windows were completely blocked by the bed board, and books, toys, and a... US military-issue bayonet were floating in the room!
In the center of the room, a thin boy sat on the floor with his back to the door. Accompanied by the cracking sound of bones grinding together, the boy's head was turned at an incredible angle.
His mouth parted to reveal a row of teeth with braces, but a sinister yet soft female voice gurgled from his throat... and it was a standard British accent.
"Heh, Father? When did you arrive... Want to play with me?"
[Ding! The second phase of the investigation into believers has been issued!]
[It has been discovered that heretical cultivators are attempting to possess our sect's followers. Each follower is a valuable asset to the sect. Deacon, please rescue them immediately!]
[Quest Completion Reward: Unlock the Sect Shop]
"My God, are you serious?! What happened to the 'I'm the only immortal' promise?!"
Sweat streamed down Li Ang's face and neck. Before he could continue complaining, the floating military dagger was already heading straight for his face!
