A priest in North America, what the hell is the Demon Gate system?
Chapter 11 The Priest and the Zombie
Sister Nia stared at the man who was stuffing pastries into his mouth, her fingers unconsciously gripping the crucifix on her chest.
"Father, that person... looks like a zombie." She lowered her voice, as if afraid of being overheard.
"When I was at the Pittsburgh monastery, a social worker who came to give a charity lecture mentioned that some people in Philadelphia become like this after using addictive substances..."
Nia's voice suddenly stopped at this point.
"Wait, could he be the one they were talking about on the radio—"
"Step back," Li Ang interrupted her.
His hand was already on the "Sacred Judgment" inside his suit, and his divine sense spread out like an invisible net, taking in every detail within twenty meters.
The stall owner was still cursing, but he didn't dare to go forward. He was just holding up his phone, seemingly considering whether to call the police.
The man was completely unaware of this, mechanically turning his neck and slowly turning towards the bustling square.
Hey, buddy.
A chubby figure swayed towards the stall.
Sheriff Bob casually placed his half-eaten smoothie cup on the table next to him, his hand resting on the holster at his waist, but he didn't draw it; after all, Uldum had been too peaceful for too long.
"Hey, buddy." Bob stopped three meters away from the man and raised a hand in a reassuring gesture.
"Calm down, I'm Sheriff Bob from Uldum. You see, it's not right to eat someone's food without paying, is it? Let's talk this out—"
Before he could finish speaking, the man in the down jacket suddenly turned around.
Before Bob could even react, a gray hand grabbed the front of his uniform, and then Bob's nearly 300-pound body was swung up like a rag doll and slammed into the hot dog stand next to him.
"Clang—!!"
The hot dog stand's sign was instantly smashed, and sauce bottles, napkin boxes, and unsold hot dog sausages flew everywhere.
The stall owner, an obese middle-aged Black woman, screamed in fright and ran away.
The previously noisy parade of floats fell silent for a moment, then suddenly erupted again!
"Sheriff!"
"Run! There's a madman!"
"911!!"
A cacophony of sounds filled the air. People at the edge of the square began to surge outwards, while those closer to the center remained confused, craning their necks to look around in bewilderment.
Li Ang pulled Nia behind the trunk of the old oak tree, his eyes fixed on the man.
Sheriff Bob lay motionless in the collapsed stall. Suddenly, a hurried female voice came from the walkie-talkie on his left shoulder:
"Uldum01, this is LCWC, Philadelphia access priority BOLO. Philadelphia, please call Uldum01 directly."
A brief pause.
Another steady male voice enters the channel:
"Odum 01, this is the Philadelphia Homicide Unit, Detective Jones. Priority BOLO—attempted murder of a patrol officer. The suspect is fleeing in your direction. Suspect: Black male, 30-35 years old. Last seen wearing a dark gray down jacket and black shorts, suspected of being under the influence of drugs, extremely violent. Repeat, extremely violent."
"Uldum 01, please confirm receipt and monitor the search. Over."
The red communication indicator light on the walkie-talkie flashed regularly.
Sheriff Bob's finger twitched. He turned his head with difficulty and used all his strength to press the reply button.
"LCWC..." His voice was so weak it was almost inaudible, "Officer injured... Suspect here... 10-78..."
After Bob finished speaking, he seemed to have exhausted all his strength, then his head lolled to the side and he completely fainted.
"Roger! Officers require assistance; suspect is on scene! All units mobilize immediately! Emergency dispatch! Uldum 01, please keep pressing the button if possible!"
But Bob clearly couldn't keep it up.
All that could be heard on the radio was the background noise and the dispatcher's urgent calls. Although Li Ang was far away, he could hear it clearly with the help of his divine sense.
Everything happened so fast that Li Ang didn't have time to help the sheriff.
Of course, even if he could help, he wouldn't openly rush in.
"I don't want to reveal my physical condition or anything else in front of others."
Since that night, Li Ang realized that being cautious and prudent is the basic quality of a disciple of the Demonic Sect!
The saying "a tall tree catches the wind" applies here.
Li Ang then turned to look at Nia and took out his car keys.
"Sister Nia, go back to the church immediately and tell the children not to go out unnecessarily. It might get very chaotic here later."
Nia paused for a moment, then nodded: "I understand, Father. Please be careful."
"The Lord is with me, don't worry."
Watching Nia's departing figure, Li Ang finally breathed a sigh of relief.
[Ding! Emergency sect mission triggered: Exterminate the Corpse Refiner]
[Out-of-control low-level zombies have been detected attacking mortals. These inferior creatures are severely disrupting the base's order.]
[Mission Requirement: Eliminate the Corpse-Refining Formation]
[Task Reward: Contribution Points +100]
[Note: The weak points of a reanimated corpse are usually located between the eyebrows and the heart.]
"Amen, this old monk can no longer allow the creation of corpses to exist in this world full of hope. Let me send you to see Brother Jesus!"
Looking at the generous reward, Li Ang couldn't help but silently pray for it.
[Update: This corpse's cultivation level has been detected as Qi Refining Level 3. Please handle this with caution, Steward.]
"I suddenly felt that this matter should be handed over to Officer Leon, not Father Leon."
Li Ang couldn't help but facepalm. Damn it, asking him to fight a Qi Refining Level 3 expert right now is no less than asking Anna to fight Iron Fist or Grace to beat up the Tyrant, okay?
But this zombie-like man was clearly not there for the pastries; his bloodshot eyes scanned his surroundings.
His gaze then settled on Mayor Joel.
Joel was being protected by several town officials as they tried to escape the crowd. His MAGA baseball cap stood out conspicuously in the crowd, while the priest who had been with him earlier had long since disappeared.
The next second, the man suddenly moved.
He swung his arms and sprinted forward in a very standard sprinting motion.
The down jacket, like a drag chute trailing behind a fighter jet, puffed up like a balloon, knocking over two folding chairs in succession before hurtling straight toward the mayor!
"Stop him!" someone shouted.
A young police officer finally drew his service weapon and shouted a warning:
"Stop! Police! Or we'll shoot!"
The man didn't even look up at him, and continued sprinting.
"Bang!"
Gunshots rang out in the square.
The people in the middle of the square realized something was wrong and began to surge forward in panic.
The bullet struck the man's left scapula, tearing a hole in his down jacket and exposing the feathers inside, leaving a white mess without a trace of blood.
The man, slowed by the bullet's impact, twisted his body slightly, glanced at the police officer with his bloodshot eyes, and then continued charging towards the mayor.
The young police officer froze, his hand holding the gun trembling.
"This...how is this possible...this is a .357 Magnum!!"
"Nonsense, it would be a miracle if attacking a corpse caused damage."
Li Ang muttered to himself, then opened the system store panel.
