Chapter 26 Dagon's Secret Order
Jon Hansen knelt on the ground.
His knee hit the broken glass, but he felt no pain at all.
His eyes were fixed on the huge hole on the third floor. The trunk lid of his Chevrolet Cruze hung down through the hole, swaying in the wind, its taillights still on, flashing as if saying goodbye to him.
"My hair..."
Jon's voice was very soft, as if he was afraid that if he spoke louder, reality would become more real.
But reality won't become gentler just because he spoke softly.
A piece of concrete fell from the edge of the hole and hit the ground with a dull thud.
Yorn braced himself on the ground with his hands, his nails digging into the gravel. He looked up at the Cruze hanging in mid-air, his lips moved a few times, and finally he let out a roar that did not belong to any language.
A passerby, seeing Yorn's pain, patted him on the shoulder: "Dude, are you alright? Are you the homeowner? Does insurance cover this?"
Yorn slowly turned his head, his eyes completely vacant.
"Insurance? I have Blue Shield insurance."
......
Lucas was getting faster and faster; he had no intention of continuing the fight.
The sirens in the distance grew more and more frequent, and the roar of helicopters increased from one to three, with more constantly appearing in the sky. The police were mobilizing all available resources to press forward.
Continuing to fight would be pointless; even if we killed this junior officer, we'd still have to deal with the police, which would be a waste of time.
He turned back the way he came and rushed back to Blue Shield Insurance Company.
In the hall, Eddie and Corbyn were still standing in their original positions.
Without saying a word, Lucas picked up Eddie and ran towards the back door.
Eddie remained expressionless as he was carried on the shoulder, and the two quickly disappeared into the alley behind the building.
Morrison arrived too late.
Corbyn remained in the same position as he had been three minutes earlier, until the two men completely disappeared from sight, at which point he collapsed to his knees with a thud, gasping for breath.
His panting echoed in the empty hall, each breath trembling.
Why...?
He looked up in the direction Eddie had disappeared, his eyes red-rimmed.
Why didn't he make a move?
"Does that mean I don't even have the right to let him do it?"
The snipers who had been aiming at Eddie finally breathed a sigh of relief. Several of them collapsed onto their sniping positions, and some even took off their helmets, revealing hair soaked in cold sweat.
A sniper lying on the roof of the opposite building found his hands still shaking when he took his face off the scope.
He muttered under his breath, "Fuck, can you please not make me look at this kind of thing next time?"
After Lucas and his companion left, only stunned police officers and a scene of utter chaos remained at the scene.
......
far away.
The office on the top floor of an office building, which was originally luxuriously decorated, is now full of water stains and smells of fish.
Marcus put down his binoculars and whistled.
"Wow~ an official superhuman has actually appeared."
Four Deep Divers stood behind him, who were his team members for this mission.
One of the Deep Ones stepped forward and said, "Should we go back and report this to the boss now?"
Marcus was about to speak.
Unnatural ripples appeared on the water stains in the office.
The air has changed.
It wasn't a change in temperature or wind direction, but rather a change in the texture of the air itself—a viscous, thick presence.
Kriel's voice didn't pass through their ears; it appeared directly in everyone's minds.
"No need, I already know, there's no need to pay them any mind."
A brief pause.
"Return immediately after completing the mission; there's something even bigger coming up."
The moment the sound disappeared, the air returned to normal.
Marcus stretched his neck, put the binoculars back into his backpack, and gestured to the Deep Ones behind him.
"Let's pack up and leave."
......
three days later.
The official statement regarding the Blue Shield Insurance Company incident has been released.
The list of losses was posted on an internal briefing, taking up four whole pages.
Blue Shield Insurance Company Building: Structurally damaged, assessed as a dangerous building, to be demolished and rebuilt.
The chase route through the main urban area: Seventeen vehicles were damaged along the way, including a Chevrolet Cruze that was thrown into a residential building. The exterior walls of three buildings were damaged to varying degrees, and all the windows of a convenience store were shattered by the shockwave.
Casualties: Blue Shield Insurance Company confirmed 147 deaths and 23 serious injuries. During the chase, 11 civilians were injured and 3 died.
An agent stroked his chin, looked at the list, and remarked, "To put it bluntly, it's much better than Columbia District; at least we don't have to rebuild several blocks."
Someone nearby chimed in, "Indeed, last time the reconstruction costs alone nearly wiped out the budget. This time, at least only one building and a few cars were damaged, and far fewer people died."
No one felt there was anything wrong with this comparison.
After all, the "Deep Diver incident" left a deep impression on everyone last time.
However, what truly brought relief to everyone was not the list of losses, but something else entirely.
extraordinary!
When the battle ended, Corbin had already informed the Federation how he obtained the supernatural ability, but they sent two investigation teams to the alley to investigate the scene, but found nothing.
The graffiti was gone, the magic circle was gone, there were no traces on the wall, and various tests such as infrared scanning and ultraviolet forensics were conducted, but the results were all the same.
Clean and tidy.
This incident was eventually filed as "Unsolved Extraordinary Event #0037" and hung in the archives to gather dust.
However, the addition of two more high-level combatants to our side is still a welcome development.
One was Morrison, who worked within the police system, and the other was Corbin Wayne, the "glorious decorator."
Morrison was already an insider in the system, so there was no need for any extra packaging.
After the battle, due to the severity of his injuries, he was taken away for top-tier treatment.
Of course, a thorough examination is necessary during treatment, such as blood tests.
As for Corbyn, his entire life was perfectly packaged, with claims that he was a child prodigy, loved helping others, and that his favorite hero was Captain America.
Even if Corbyn himself were to look at this file, he probably wouldn't recognize who this is.
However, Corbyn didn't care about any of that. After properly arranging his girlfriend's body, he began to devote himself entirely to his work.
Superheroes!
"So you're saying you're going to create a separate file for me, this superhero? Heh, of course I'd be happy to."
Inside the extraordinary archives.
Corbyn tried his best to maintain a serious demeanor, but the corners of his mouth couldn't help but turn up in a smile.
"Yes, regarding your file, what code name would you like?"
Corbin paused for a moment when he heard the question. Actually, his initial thought was something like "friendly neighbor," but before he could speak, he suddenly thought of the concept of the "bird" when he gained superhuman abilities.
"Big bird."
The FBI agents were silent for three seconds. They thought Corbyn would come up with some kind of cringeworthy name, but they didn't expect him to be so naive.
While FBI agents were taking notes, Corbyn was also walking around the extraordinary archives room, and eventually, a very thin file caught his attention.
"Why is this file so thin?"
Corbyn pointed to the file and asked the agent next to him.
"Oh, that's because you said your superpowers are due to your faith in a certain god, so the FBI has been frantically collecting information about gods and churches lately."
"The name you're holding is something I overheard from a passerby; there's no other information about it."
Corbyn nodded and opened the file.
