Chapter 77 The Shadow of the Pot (Part 2)

"Are you here to mock me as the victor, new Hokage's assistant?"

Directly in front of the cell, Danzo, bound by iron chains bearing sealing runes, sat quietly in a chair, his eyes dark as he looked at Hyuga Yu.

"I'm not that boring."

Hyuga looked at him with a subtle expression. "I'm just here to ask some questions. Were any Hyuga clan ninjas among the Root ninjas who left on your orders?"

Danzo narrowed his eyes at Hyuga Yu, a cold smile playing on his lips. "Tokuma? He seems to be your senior from the Ninja Academy. Want to know where he is?"

"In no mood."

Hyuga Yu said calmly, "I'm just asking if Root has any Hyuga ninjas."

"So what if I have it?" Danzo frowned.

Hyuga Yu didn't answer. In front of Danzo, he walked to a table and chairs to the side, took out a stack of documents, and put the top document aside.

That was a list of Root ninja defectors, including many Hyuga ninja names.

Hyuga Miyuki, Hyuga Tokuma, Hyuga Yuuki, and others were all in there, inexplicably becoming members of Root.

After all, it was only natural that Hiashi Hyuga had "pretended" to join Danzo, and that there were many Hyuga ninja in Root... at least that's what Hiashi Hyuga thought.

The Hyuga main family was almost completely wiped out, and the disappearance of many branch family members could not be concealed. Previously, Hiashi could suppress it by virtue of his status as a member of the main family, but now he could not hide it anymore.

Danzo's escape of the Root ninjas was like a windfall, providing Hiashi with a perfect excuse to send Hyuga Tokuma to do some tampering and "expand" the Root organization.

The advantage of doing this is that if the aforementioned people are arrested, Hiashi Hyuga can plead for them if necessary, saying that those ninjas were forced to join Root and thus escape death.

Danzo has another problem to solve.

Hyuga Yu continued, "Did you conduct any experiments involving Wood Release, Sharingan...?"

"Enough! You can find clues to all of this at the root of the matter, so why are you asking me?"

Hinata Yu silently put the document about Orochimaru shifting the blame aside.

Compared to others, Orochimaru merely used a twisted sense of humor to shift the blame for the parts of his human experiments that overlapped with Danzo's, which, strictly speaking, did not add much to Danzo's guilt.

It can't even be called a stain.

Taking out another document, Hyuga Yu looked at Danzo and posed his third question.

"Did you send people to massacre the Hyuga main family?"

"?"

Danzo finally looked up at Hinata Yu. Seeing that Hinata Yu's expression was not joking, and recalling the question from earlier, he completely understood why Hinata Yu had come. His originally indifferent expression became somewhat distorted.

"A bunch of shameless scoundrels!"

He wasn't unprepared for the saying "when the wall falls, everyone pushes it down."

But to pin this blame on him, has Hiashi Hyuga abandoned even logic?

If he wanted revenge, would he target the Hyuga main family?

Seeing that he still didn't give a direct answer, Hyuga placed the document on the "Agree" side, causing Danzo's eye to twitch. However, he didn't care about that and only asked, "What did Hiashi say?"

"Because I betrayed you that day, I was retaliated against by the Root. I escaped with my wife thanks to my own strength, but all the other main family members died," Hyuga Yu replied.

The document contained information that the Hyuga main family had not appeared in public for several days, and Hiashi was clearly deliberately shifting the blame to Danzo.

But nobody cares about such things. After all, even Hiashi, the head of the Hyuga clan, doesn't care about the main family. Now that the Hyuga main family has clearly lost power, no one will stand up for them or investigate the truth.

The document was placed in the lower left corner at the time, and it had been dealt with by Watergate, so he obviously didn't intend to investigate it further.

Now Danzo has tacitly agreed... let's just accept that as the case.

"That's really a stretch."

Danzo sneered.

Although the details are unknown, the fact that Hiashi could feign allegiance to him means that those members of the main family did not cause him any trouble.

I thought they were being imprisoned, but it turns out they're all dead.

Was it because they wanted to get rid of the caged birds and were worried that they would get in the way, so they simply killed them all?

Japan's football team certainly has guts.

"If you want me to take the blame for them, then you can handle it yourself."

After glancing at the document, Danzo simply closed his eyes, deciding to avoid seeing it altogether.

Upon hearing this, Hinata Yu simply skipped over some of the investigation results and looked at the personal accusations.

"Attacked ninjas from the same village."

"Threatening children to join Roots."

"Indiscriminate killing of innocent villagers."

"..."

The files of individual allegations contain more evidence than the crimes uncovered in the investigations.

He seemed to have been suffering under Danzo's shadow for a long time.

The above are relatively normal, but some of the accusations are quite strange.

"...sent Root ninjas to spy on the women's bathhouse."

Danzo, who had ignored them before, subconsciously opened his eyes and murmured, "Jiraiya?"

Hinata Yu nodded strangely.

That's right, it was Jiraiya's accusation.

The problem lies in the cause-and-effect relationship.

According to Jiraiya, he had accidentally discovered the Root ninja outside the women's bathhouse.

But this statement should be interpreted in reverse.

The Root ninja were monitoring Jiraiya and followed him to the vicinity of the women's bathhouse.

Hyuga Yu: "Since Tsunade-senpai knows she can't do anything to you for the time being, she took a portion of the money she got from Root as compensation for Shizune-san."

"It seems they all dislike this old man."

Danzo said indifferently, quietly looking at the documents with a calm expression.

Some people are shirking responsibility, while others are simply unhappy that he's still alive and want to vent their frustrations.

"You don't have much reputation in Konoha to begin with."

Hinata Yu tidied up the documents, put them aside, and temporarily ignored them. "You've been handling things in secret, and many villagers don't even know you exist."

"Your roots are merely tools, both in terms of bloodline and politics. You have no successors, so isn't it only natural that things have come to this?"

Danzo looked at Hyuga Yu directly for the first time, his voice low and somber, "The reason is that I lost."

He paused, then continued:

"You're not here simply to handle political affairs, are you? Do you want leverage over the various ninja clans? Or... the whereabouts of the Root?"

Hyuga Yu did not answer.

Danzo stared intently at Hyuga Yu, trying to discern a change in his expression, but seeing nothing, he narrowed his eyes.

Although Sarutobi Masaaki held a high position in the ninja clan, it was impossible for him to have developed spies into the core of Root.

He had anticipated that there was sand in the roots, but the core members were all carefully cultivated by him, and there would be no traitors among them.

As long as the departed Root members don't gather together, Konoha won't have a chance to wipe them all out through the sand.

But Hyuga Yu doesn't seem to be interested in these things at all.

"Could you be...?"

Thinking that he might be the only one in Konoha who had paid attention to this information, Danzo's expression shifted slightly. "You want information about the Daimyo? Are you sure Minato will be on your side? You're just the Hokage's assistant!"

Hinata Yu: "Then you don't need to worry about it. I'm just making preparations in advance."

"Getting ready...hehe."

Danzo gave a sarcastic smile and suddenly said, "The appointment letter the Daimyo gave me is currently at a secret base in the east. It states that I'm relinquishing the right to liaise with the Daimyo to the Hokage as his assistant. It would be of great help to you. Do you dare take it?"
