Chapter 96 Taking Advantage of Someone's Downfall
Chapter 96 Taking Advantage of Someone's Downfall
"Ancient One, the Dagon Church has been completely suppressed by us. New York will soon become the holy city of the Yellow King!"
Mordo was overjoyed, as if he had accomplished a great feat and become a saint.
The Ancient One's face remained calm; she did not show much joy at this "victory."
"Modu, I've always seen your passion and hard work, but we must understand that this is nothing to celebrate."
The Ancient One felt very tired. She had long wanted to find someone to take over the position of Sorcerer Supreme. Originally, she preferred Strange, but now so many things had happened.
Getting Strange to take over her position won't be easy; at the very least, the new overlord, the King in Yellow, needs to be someone the Sorcerer Supreme can get for free.
Otherwise, if it were a case of semi-brainwashing like Mordo's, then she wouldn't need to find a successor; she could simply abandon this responsibility.
"Ancient One, I think you're exhausted. We've put in so much effort to finally wipe the Dagon Church's influence out of New York—what a great victory! Why are you so indifferent, even thinking it's not worth celebrating?"
He paused, his tone earnest and urgent: "I admit, I may be a bit too optimistic, but that's because I've seen the fruits of our labor. Isn't peace and tranquility in New York what we all strive for? Why are you turning a blind eye to these achievements?"
Just as Gu Yi was about to say something, a loud bang rang out, shaking the entire church.
The Ancient One frowned slightly, instantly sensing the unusual energy fluctuation.
She looked out of the church, as if she could see through the thick stone walls and into the distant changes taking place.
"Banner..."
"Modu, you stay here to calm people down and ensure safety inside the church."
The Ancient One swiftly issued the command, her figure beginning to flicker slightly—a sign that she was about to use spatial magic.
"I'll go check it out. Banner's appearance is no accident; it may be related to other unknown forces."
Upon hearing this, Mo Du, though still puzzled, knew that now was not the time to ask further questions.
He immediately nodded in agreement and began arranging the church's defenses to ensure that everything would proceed smoothly during the Ancient One's absence.
The Ancient One vanished from her spot in an instant, leaving only a faint magical light—the trace of her journey through time.
She quickly approached Banner's location, where numerous mages were fighting him, but they were clearly no match for him.
"Gentlemen, step back."
The Ancient One's voice wasn't loud, but everyone present could hear it.
Upon hearing this, the monks retreated to make room for the Ancient One.
The Ancient One slowly walked towards Banner and said, "Banner, I can feel your pain and struggle, but this is New York, the home of innocent citizens. We cannot let anger consume reason and let destruction become the only answer."
"So, for the safety of New York City residents, I should never wake up and be used as a laboratory animal for government research and even dissection?"
Banner grinned coldly, his crimson eyes filled with indescribable malice.
Ancient One sighed. Now, there was no other way but to defeat Banner. But could she really defeat Banner?
Banner let out a deafening roar, his body swelling once more, his red skin appearing even more ferocious in the moonlight. He leaped forward, his enormous fist carrying destructive power, heading straight for the Ancient One.
Ancient One dodged Banner's attack with a swift movement, simultaneously forming hand seals to release a dazzling magical shield that blocked Banner's attack.
However, this was only temporary. Banner's power was too great, and the shield began to crack and teetered on the brink of collapse.
"Fellow mages, prepare the combined magic array!"
The Ancient One knew that she could not win by fighting alone; she had to gather the strength of everyone.
Upon hearing this, the mages quickly adjusted their formation, surrounding the Ancient One and each unleashing their most proficient magic to prepare for constructing a combined magic circle.
However, Banner didn't give them much time. He furiously swung his fists, destroying the surrounding buildings one by one, while releasing powerful shockwaves that made it difficult for the mages to stand, knocking them to the ground.
Seeing this, the Ancient One took a deep breath, gathered all her magical power in her palm, and prepared to launch a fatal blow.
"Banner, this is for New York, and for yourself!"
The Ancient One's voice was resolute and unwavering. She thrust forward sharply, and a dazzling beam of magical light shot from her palm, hurtling straight at Banner.
However, Banner's strength was beyond imagination. He withstood the beam of light, and although he staggered slightly, he was not fatally injured.
On the contrary, his anger seemed to be further aroused, and his power surged again.
"That's interesting. So what?"
Banner reached out, as if to grab something.
"Axe, come here!"
A giant axe appeared in Banner's hand; it was the very same axe that had previously cornered the Ancient One.
"Come here, Jia!"
Banner straightened his chest, his body encased in a suit of armor—the very same armor that had previously helped him fend off countless attacks.
"Ancient One, now I'd like to see what other tricks you have up your sleeve."
Banner brandished his giant axe and swung it down at the Ancient One.
The speed was so fast that it was clearly incomparable to anything before.
Just as the axe blade was about to strike the Ancient One, Banner quickly turned around and slammed the Ancient One hard with the back of the axe.
Under that immense force, the shield on the Ancient One's body was shattered, and she was thrown heavily to the ground.
Banner then leaped up, jumped to the Ancient One's side, raised his axe, and swung it down at her, but stopped less than a centimeter from her forehead.
"Gu Yi, are you really not afraid of death?"
Banner laughed, then put away his axe and glanced at the Ancient One with some surprise.
"Banner, aren't you going to kill me?"
The Ancient One, who was quietly waiting for death, opened her eyes and found that Banner did not seem to have any intention of killing her. This surprised her. He clearly had the ability to kill her, and Banner was angry enough. What made him stop?
"Ancient One, there will be someone to kill you, but that person is not me."
Banner glanced into the distance, then left without looking back.
Just as the Ancient One was struggling to get up, a group of people dressed in long robes appeared in front of her.
"Gu Yi, I told you, you'll regret this."
Kaecilius looked down at the Ancient One with smug satisfaction. The former Sorcerer Supreme had once again become his prey, and he felt a surge of vindictive anger.
Hey everyone, could you please let me continue reading this? It's risky to continue reading now, I'm worried it won't get published. Please help me, thank you.
