Chapter 86 Buddha and Evil God
Chapter 86 Buddha and Evil God
Terrible!
Hawkeye felt absolutely awful!
Why did I suddenly decide to bring Matt here?
A strong sense of regret and unease welled up in Hawkeye's heart. He looked around and noticed that a strange tension was spreading among the onlookers.
Those who had been whispering earlier now seemed to be drawn in by the monk's words, their eyes flashing with complex emotions—some were confused, some were fanatical, and others were filled with deep fear.
"We have to get out of here."
Hawkeye whispered to Matt, while secretly observing the surroundings, searching for the best escape route.
Matt, however, seemed frozen in place, his eyes fixed on the monk, a mixture of doubt and anger in them.
"I can't just leave like this; I need an answer."
He answered firmly, his voice soft yet conveying an undeniable strength.
"Matt, now is not the time to argue about this."
Hawkeye was so eager to persuade him that he was almost cursing. This monk was clearly not a good person. How could you go to him to ask for an explanation?
"We don't know who this monk or the Yellow-Eyebrowed Buddha he mentioned are, but it's clear that the situation here is beyond our control."
Just then, the monk's expression suddenly turned gloomy, and he slowly stretched out his hand, as if to summon some unknown power.
"Since you are unwilling to accept the teachings of the Yellow-Eyebrowed Buddha, then let me, in the name of the Buddha, let you experience true judgment."
As soon as he finished speaking, a strange fluctuation seemed to rise in the air, and the surrounding crowd began to stir. Some people even knelt down and muttered to themselves, as if they were performing some kind of mysterious ritual.
Upon seeing this, Hawkeye immediately grabbed Matt's hand, trying to forcibly take him away.
But at that moment, an invisible force suddenly struck, binding the two firmly to the spot, unable to move.
"No! This is impossible!" Matt struggled desperately, but to no avail.
"Matt, stay calm, let's figure something out together."
Although Hawkeye was also filled with fear, he knew that he had to remain calm in order to find a chance to escape.
"Both of you, there's no need for you to leave. Enter my seed bag and contemplate the Dharma."
A cold smile curled at the corner of the monk's lips, a smile filled with an irresistible authority and an eeriness. With a flick of his sleeve, a seemingly ordinary cloth bag, yet radiating a faint golden light, appeared out of thin air in his hand.
"Two benefactors, please come out again when you have comprehended the Dharma."
As soon as he finished speaking, the monk untied the seed bag, and a gust of wind arose. The two men sensed something was wrong and tried to make a run for it, but it was too late for them.
The bag seemed to come alive, suddenly expanding and a powerful suction force gushed out from its opening, pulling everything around it inward.
Hawkeye and Matt felt a sudden lightness in their bodies, as if they were being pulled by an invisible force, and involuntarily flew towards the human bag.
"No--!"
Matt cried out in despair again, trying his best to break free from the restraints, but all his efforts were in vain.
The two screamed and were immediately sucked into the human bag.
"My two benefactors, I hope you can comprehend the Dharma and become my good disciples."
The monk's words echoed in the air, carrying a hint of smugness and coldness. Then he slowly put away the human seed bag, as if he had only completed a trivial ritual.
Among the onlookers, some remained immersed in the mysterious atmosphere, while others began to whisper among themselves, shocked and puzzled by what had just happened.
The human-shaped bag gradually shrank in the monk's hands, eventually becoming an inconspicuous cloth bag, which he casually hung at his waist.
He turned around, his gaze sweeping over the crowd, seemingly searching for the next potential "believer" or "challenger," but more than that, it was a calm and collected demeanor of someone in control of the situation.
As the monk departed, the crowd bowed to him and gradually dispersed, but the strange fluctuations in the air seemed to linger, sending chills down people's spines.
Meanwhile, Kingpin stared at the two-headed bird-like monster.
Although the monster looked terrifying, Kingpin wasn't afraid.
He was never afraid of even the more hideous monsters that came out of the Church of Dagon.
A mere two-headed bird monster could not instill any fear in him.
What he cared about was whether this monster could grant his wish and allow Vanessa to live.
If not, then as the price for playing tricks on itself, it shall remain here with its life.
Kingpin's eyes were sharp as an eagle's, piercing through the two-headed bird monster's chilling appearance and looking straight into its soul, as if trying to discern whether it truly possessed the power to reverse life and death.
His hands were clenched into fists, his knuckles turning white from the force, revealing his urgency and determination.
"tell me."
Kingpin's voice was deep and powerful, each word seemingly squeezed out from between his teeth.
"Can you give me what I need, so that Vanessa can escape the shadow of death and be reborn?"
The two heads of the bird monster looked to the left and right, their eyes flashing with a strange light, as if assessing Kingpin's determination and strength.
"The Lord of All Changes is omnipotent. Humble mortal, your wish can naturally be granted. However, can you bear the price?"
Upon hearing this, Kingpin's lips curled into a cold smile, a smile that contained both contempt for the unknown and deep love for his lover.
"The price? For Vanessa, I have long since disregarded life and death. Whatever the price, as long as she can live, I am willing to bear it."
"Messenger of the Lord of All Changes, stop your nonsense and state your conditions."
The two-headed bird-like creature tilted its two heads slightly, seemingly unsurprised by Kingpin's answer.
"Very well, Kingpin, your determination is truly admirable, but remember, this is not just a simple deal, and I won't tell you the price directly."
Kingpin frowned. Was this two-headed bird monster planning to play a trick on him?
If that's the case, Kingpin felt his fists itching to beat up some monster.
However, the two-headed bird seemed to see through Kingpin's dissatisfaction and doubt. Instead of backing down, it slowly took out an ancient and yellowed book from its chest. The edges of the pages seemed to be inlaid with tiny golden runes, emitting a faint light.
"Kingpin, the real price is hidden in this 'Great Book of Destiny,' but I won't tell you directly; you'll have to guess it."
The two-headed bird gently pushed the book toward Kingpin. Kingpin hesitated for a moment, but finally reached out and took the heavy book.
He felt a strange power coming from the book, as if a warm force was guiding him and gradually calming him down.
"But, if I'm guessing, Vanessa doesn't have that time."
"No, she will have that time."
One of the two-headed bird monster's heads gave Kingpin a meaningful look.
