Chapter 84 Presentation

"What do you mean by saying there's a chance of dying?"

Kingpin angrily grabbed a doctor by the collar and lifted him up.

He could clearly see Vanessa's smile through the glass, yet this quack doctor said Vanessa might die.

"Mr. Wilson...please hear me out."

The doctor's voice trembled with fear as he futilely gripped Kingpin's thick arms, trying to break free from the sudden feeling of suffocation.

"Sir, please calm down! What I mean by danger is based on the severity and complexity of her current condition. Miss Vanessa's condition is indeed very critical; she is experiencing severe... signs of internal bleeding and organ failure."

We are doing everything we can to save lives, but medical care can't always guarantee 100% certainty.

Kingpin's eyes seemed to spit fire. He gritted his teeth, veins bulging on his forehead, and every word seemed to be squeezed out from between his teeth: "I don't care what method you use, you must save her! She can't die, do you hear me? If anything happens to her, I swear, you will suffer a thousand times more than she is now!"

After saying that, he gave the doctor a hard shove, slamming him to the ground. Kingpin's chest heaved violently, his emotions like a volcano about to erupt, but at that moment, he forced himself to calm down.

He knew that anger would not help, so he took a deep breath, composed himself, and strode out of the doctor's office.

Arriving at Vanessa's hospital room, my gaze pierced through the glass and fell once again on Vanessa's pale face, which was still trying to maintain a smile.

That smile, in his eyes, was so fragile yet so strong, as if it were her final persistence and struggle against life.

"Your wife is dying. She won't make it. The doctors can't save her. Only you can save her!"

"What are you? Show yourself right now!"

The strange voice rang out again, and Kingpin could no longer contain himself; he roared at those around him.

However, apart from the occasional soft sounds of medical equipment operating, there was no response from anyone else.

The lack of response over a long period made Kingpin realize that the voice did not seem to come from the outside world, but rather from the fear and despair deep within his own heart.

He shook his head violently, trying to shake these negative thoughts out of his mind.

"No, I cannot let these distracting thoughts control me."

Kingpin silently reaffirmed.

However, this didn't seem to be just Kingpin's random thoughts; soon, the mysterious voice answered him again.

"I am right in front of you, as you can see."

The gentle glow of the setting sun spilled across the New York skyline, draping the city that never sleeps in a golden veil.

Hawkeye sped along in a car with Matt in tow. He could tell that his colleague had been feeling down lately, and being a warm-hearted man, he decided to take him out for some fun.

Taking Matt to experience different facets of New York might allow him to temporarily forget his troubles and rediscover happiness. As the wheels wound their way through the city's network, they gradually moved away from the bustling commercial district and headed towards the unknown.

"Mr. Barton, please stop for a moment. I sense a gentle atmosphere here."

Matt suddenly called for Hawkeye to stop, and Hawkeye slowly brought the car to a stop. Looking to the side, he saw a temple.

"Matt, you're not planning to go check this out, are you?"

Hawkeye didn't intend to bring Matt here; he planned to take Matt to some more entertaining and relaxing places.

What interesting things could a temple possibly have?

"Let's go take a look."

But Matt doesn't think so. He's still confused, and perhaps he can find the answers he's looking for by passing by religious sites.

Hawkeye looked at Matt and thought that this trip was originally meant to help him relax, so since Matt wanted to go, then let him go.

So he nodded and replied with a smile, "Okay, Matt, since you want to go, let's go together."

The two got out of the car and walked to the entrance of the temple.

As they approached, the chanting and gentle bells emanating from the temple mingled together, seemingly washing away all the dust of the world and purifying the soul.

The temple gates slowly opened, and a fresh and tranquil atmosphere wafted in, causing Matt to involuntarily take a deep breath and feel an unprecedented sense of relaxation.

After entering the temple, they walked slowly along the stone path, with lush trees and well-arranged Buddha statues on both sides.

Matt would stop and pray devoutly with his hands clasped together whenever he passed a Buddha statue. Although he did not have a specific religious belief, he felt a special peace in his heart at that moment.

Hawkeye stayed quietly by Matt's side, not bothering him, but occasionally casting concerned glances to make sure he was alright.

Just as Matt was immersed in self-reflection and inner peace, he and Hawkeye unexpectedly discovered a group of people gathered in a small courtyard deep inside the temple. They were sitting around an elderly monk, looking unusually focused and excited.

The monk was speaking in his magnetic voice, sharing profound religious insights and philosophical ideas that differed from their everyday understanding.

Matt and Hawkeye exchanged a glance, both seeing a hint of curiosity and confusion in each other's eyes.

While they respect everyone's freedom of belief, those statements did indeed go beyond what they could accept, and even contained some views that they considered heretical or overly extreme.

However, Matt did not leave immediately; he felt an urge to delve deeper into these ideas.

Perhaps, in his confusion and bewilderment, these seemingly illogical ideas can provide him with another perspective, helping him to understand the world and himself more comprehensively.

Hawkeye saw through Matt's thoughts and said softly, "Matt, if you find this helpful, stay and listen."

But please remember that everyone's beliefs and understanding are unique; you don't have to force yourself to accept all viewpoints.

Matt nodded, and the two quietly approached the edge of the crowd and found a relatively quiet spot to sit down.

"Do you even know what justice is?"

Hearing this, Matt's eyes lit up. He had been thinking about this issue for the past few days, and now that someone had brought up the topic of justice, Matt had to listen carefully.

Do you think the actions of those heroes active on the streets are acts of justice?

Upon hearing this, Matt recalled his own actions.

There are quite a few street heroes, and Matt would have thought they were righteous before, but now he's a little unsure.

"I can tell you, their actions are absolutely unjust!"

The monk spoke only briefly, which piqued Matt's interest.
