Chapter 61 Conscription

At S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters.

"Chief, those two super-powered warriors you're referring to, you wouldn't happen to be those two mental patients, would you?"

Coulson asked cautiously, as he was very familiar with this route; it was on this very road that he had previously ambushed the handsome man in the suit.

At the time, he was still feeling sorry for him, thinking how someone so handsome and young could have developed a mental illness.

"That's right, is there a problem? The two princes of Asgard are brave and skilled in battle. There's a war going on right now, wouldn't it be perfect to have them participate?"

What's the problem? There's a huge problem!

Upon hearing this, Coulson's expression instantly became complicated. He looked at Xia Ling in disbelief, trying to find a trace of a joke in the other's eyes, but clearly, he was serious.

"Director, are you telling the truth? They really are princes of Asgard, and... you're going to have them participate in the war? Aren't you under too much pressure?"

Coulson looked at his boss with some concern, wondering if his recent lack of energy was due to his nightly partying.

As for work-related reasons? Absolutely not, because he handles all of the director's daily work, and apart from a few particularly important matters, he has never interfered at all.

"Of course, I never lie!"

You didn't say that before!

"Yes, you're right."

As a seasoned veteran in the workplace, Coulson would never contradict his boss.

If you do whatever your boss says, and you insist on doing the opposite of what your boss says, aren't you just asking for trouble?

Moreover, the salary was really high, and Coulson felt that if he were fired, he wouldn't be able to find a job with the same salary.

"You say you believe, but in your heart you still scoff."

"Chief, it's me."

Coulson couldn't continue. He genuinely didn't believe it. After all, who would believe that a former mentally ill person could suddenly become a prince of a country, or even a god?

One of the "gods," in particular, was actually knocked down by him with a crowbar. Which god is so weak? Can such a weak god be called a god?

"Alright, I'll prove it to you now. Perfect, I can contact Odin, so I'll show you the truth of the world."

Xia Ling patted Coulson on the shoulder and shouted towards the window, "Odin, I know you're watching. If you heard what I said, then you know the war is about to begin."

Have Heimdall send over Thor and Loki's battle robes; they're about to show their skills on the battlefield.

After Xia Ling finished speaking, she snapped her fingers, and immediately a dazzling beam of light flew over, broke through the window, and landed in front of the two of them.

The beam of light did not last long and quickly dissipated.

After it dissipated, two battle robes appeared, one red and the other a terrifyingly green.

"Very good, Coulson, did you see that? Odin had Heimdall deliver Thor and Loki's armor."

Xia Ling pointed to the two battle robes on the ground, gesturing for his subordinate to take a look, but received no response. He turned his head to look.

Coulson's eyes widened, and his mouth opened slightly, as if he could swallow an egg.

He stared incredulously at the two battle robes that had suddenly appeared before him. The bright red and eerie green stood out brilliantly under the dim office lights, as if they carried the power and majesty of another world.

"How...how is this possible?"

Coulson's voice trembled as he reached out and gently touched the red battle robe. The sensation at his fingertips was tangible, unlike any illusion.

"Are these really Thor and Loki's battle robes? Could it be that they really are princes of Asgard?"

"Hey, Coulson, look at you, so pathetic. As my trusted subordinate, you should have some dignity. Odin just sent a package, and you're already this scared."

"If Odin were to appear before you one day and become your colleague, wouldn't you be terrified?"

Coulson, being an elite agent, immediately snapped out of his daze. Just then, the alarm sounded, a chorus of footsteps approached, and a large group of agents appeared before the two of them.

"Chief, are you alright?"

The agents stared in shock at the broken window, deeply moved, and immediately shielded Xia Ling in the middle.

This is the headquarters of S.H.I.E.L.D., and yet someone has managed to attack us. Although the director was not injured, the situation is extremely serious.

"Chief, please allow us to escort you."

"Alright, you don't need to worry about this anymore. Take these two battle robes and put them in the rooms of those two special prisoners."

Xia Ling interrupted the agents' tense suggestions and directly and decisively issued the order.

The agents exchanged bewildered glances, filled with doubt, but quickly carried out the order. They carefully picked up the combat uniforms from the ground, handling them as if they were precious artifacts, afraid of making any mistake.

One of the agents asked, "Chief, do we need to place those two special prisoners under additional surveillance or restraint?"

"No need, just leave the battle robe there, we'll be there in a bit."

As soon as Xia Ling gave the order, the agents sprang into action, donning their protective gear and heading to the special room where Thor and Loki were being housed.

"Chief, you were joking just now, weren't you?"

Coulson asked tentatively, as what he had just witnessed had truly shattered his worldview.

Even when I led my subordinates to meet the Ancient One and the magic of the Church of Dagon, it was never like today.

Their leader simply made a verbal appeal to Odin, and Odin actually did exactly as he said.

Do you think I'm joking?

"Well"

Coulson chuckled, knowing he had asked a potentially foolish question.

"Let's go, Coulson, let's go and persuade them to join this war."

Thor stared wistfully at the ceiling, ignoring whatever Loki said beside him.

He could no longer distinguish between reality and illusion.

He no longer even knew if he was Thor; the past years seemed like a dream.

Thor didn't want to think about it anymore; it wouldn't be so bad to just stay withdrawn like this.

Just then, the door to the room was slowly pushed open, and a group of agents walked in, took in two familiar items, and then quickly walked out.

"Mortals, how do you possess the battle robes of the Asgardian prince?"

Loki roared, and Thor immediately remembered what that thing was. Wasn't that the thing he used to wear when he was fighting in Asgard? How did it end up here?

No, it's meaningless now, nothing matters anymore.

"Thor, it's time for you to face reality."

A voice came from inside, and two men walked in, one of them with a half-smile on his face.
