Chapter 49 Casillas's Wrath
Chapter 49 Casillas's Wrath
"A bunch of useless trash!"
Casillas's voice boomed like thunder in the church. He had appeared silently before everyone, his face so dark it seemed like it could drip water.
His gaze was piercing, sweeping across the face of every believer, his eyes filled with both disappointment and anger.
"Look at yourselves now! You've been thrown into chaos and utterly disgraced by a mere demon!"
Casillas's voice was cold and powerful, each word striking the hearts of the believers like a heavy hammer.
The believers lowered their heads, not daring to meet Casillas's sharp gaze.
Casillas was even more furious. He hadn't been gone long; he had only just reached some unspoken agreements with those politicians before returning immediately.
When they returned, they found the scene resembled a battlefield. Several priests had died, the streets were in ruins, and many houses were destroyed. The only good news was that the church was intact.
Otherwise, Casillas really didn't know how he would face this situation, let alone explain it to his believers.
What reason do believers have to worship a god who can even demolish a church by evil spirits?
"This is truly humiliating. You were beaten so badly by a demon, and he even got away?"
Casillas' chest heaved violently, clearly his emotions had reached a boiling point, but even so, he still tried to maintain his dignity and composure as a leader.
The priests below didn't dare to breathe, and Evans was sweating profusely.
Casillas observed the expressions on their faces, paused, and then said, "I'll let you off the hook this time, but there won't be a next time, understand?"
His sharp gaze swept over everyone, and all who saw him bowed their heads.
"This matter ends here. From this moment forward, all believers are under a state of emergency, with increased patrols and the repair of everything damaged. I have already reached an agreement with the government; we need to cooperate with them to eradicate the evil."
Casillas walked up to Evans, his gaze sharp as a sword, looking him directly in the eye: "Evans, as my second-in-command, your responsibility is especially heavy. I expect you to lead by example, guide everyone out of this slump, and regain the trust of the believers. Are you ready?"
Evans took a deep breath and wiped the sweat from his brow. "Yes, High Priest, I am ready. I will do my utmost to live up to your expectations."
"Hahaha, so you criminals are cooperating with the government."
A slightly mocking laugh rang out. Casillas frowned and looked towards the source of the sound, only to see Daredevil Matt struggling to his feet.
"So we have an uninvited guest tonight. Well then, the famous Daredevil, what brings you here?"
Casillas's eyes instantly sharpened. He slowly turned around, his gaze shooting like two bolts of lightning towards the location of Daredevil Matt.
Despite being covered in wounds, Matt managed to stand up.
"I'm here, naturally, to stop you from continuing to use the name of faith to commit despicable acts. Casillas, do you think that colluding with politicians can cover up the filth behind your church?"
Casillas's face darkened, and the surrounding air seemed to freeze.
"Daredevil, your ears are faster than your fists. But remember, this isn't a place for you to run wild. Your so-called justice is nothing but based on your personal prejudice and conjecture."
"Prejudice? Speculation?" Matt scoffed, struggling to stand up straighter.
"You exploit the piety of believers to make dirty deals with politicians, even sacrificing innocent lives to maintain your power. You are no different from the demons that have just appeared!"
The thought of the monster that appeared that night made Matt realize that the Church of Dagon was no good; otherwise, why would something like this happen today?
"And where were you when people were getting hurt, Daredevil? Don't tell me you were too scared to move."
Evans suddenly interrupted at this moment. He had already spotted Daredevil, but he was too stressed by Bronsky to bother with such a minor character.
"I"
Matt was momentarily stunned, a complex mix of emotions welling up inside him.
He fought Bronsky once, no, it can't even be called a fight, he was defeated in one blow, can it be called a fight?
"You're nothing but a pathetic, weak piece of trash."
Evans' words were like a sharp dagger, piercing Matt's heart. His tone was full of disdain and contempt, as if he wanted to shatter all of Matt's persistence and courage.
Matt's face turned pale instantly. He clenched his teeth, his throat bobbing as if he wanted to say something, but in the end he couldn't say anything. His legs went weak, and he collapsed to the ground again.
"High Priest, let's get rid of this hypocritical Daredevil right here, so he won't disgust us after the battle."
Seeing Matt sitting blankly on the ground, Evans, feeling bored, planned to just kill this street hero, but Casillas had other ideas.
"No, we have already reached an agreement with the government, and this person is a special employee of S.H.I.E.L.D., a government agency. Let's let him off the hook for now. He might be useful in the future."
Casillas's gaze shifted between Matt and Evans, finally settling on Matt's pale yet resolute face, a meaningful smile playing on his lips.
He waved, signaling the others to leave with him.
The matter has only just ended; there are still many troubles to deal with.
"Wait, wait a minute."
Matt's faint voice came through, and Casillas turned around impatiently, saying, "What is it? We're too busy to take you home."
"No, that's not it. I want to know, how do you know that I work for S.H.I.E.L.D.?"
Matt was a little nervous, even though he was reluctant to join S.H.I.E.L.D.
But now that Gadu has joined, and besides, they might have to rely on S.H.I.E.L.D. to fight the Dagon Church in the future.
Not many people probably know that he is a special employee. If S.H.I.E.L.D. has been infiltrated by the Dagon Church, that would be very bad.
"Your bureau chief told me that himself."
"What?"
Matt was stunned. He thought there was a problem within S.H.I.E.L.D., that it had been infiltrated, but this was the result.
"Your bureau chief was worried that we might accidentally kill you, so he specifically told me your identity. If it weren't for him, you would be dead here today."
Your bureau chief is a good bureau chief; you can never repay his kindness in your entire life!
