Chapter 45 Government Meeting
Chapter 45 Government Meeting
In a room in the New York State Capitol, across from Casillas, the mayor of New York City, the governor, and a host of other officials were present, and even Xia Ling was invited to the scene.
At first, he was quite surprised. How could he, a high-ranking intelligence chief, who was nominally affiliated with the Security Council and had no connection with the American government, be invited to attend such a meeting?
But upon closer reflection, he realized that he was the one who ordered the agents to attack. So, no matter what, as one of the parties involved, he had to be present if the Dagon Church wanted reconciliation, since this wasn't Munich.
"Everyone."
The New York governor finally spoke, breaking the silence in the room.
"We are gathered here to address an urgent and complex issue, Mr. Casillas. I would like to ask you a question: Is the Church of Dagnan a threat to the safety and stability of our city?"
"Mr. Governor."
Casillas sat up straight.
"I respect the purpose of this meeting and I know the importance of the question you raised. The Church of Dagon has never been a threat to New York; on the contrary, we are an indispensable protector here."
At this point, Kaecilius was thinking of dissing the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., who he considered a destabilizing element who was disrupting social order.
But when he saw his ambiguous smile, Casillas lost his courage.
He had no choice but to swallow back the words he was about to say and change the subject to other issues.
"Of course, I do not deny that some of the recent actions of the Dagon Church have caused public concern and misunderstanding. These actions, whatever the reason, have deviated from the original intention and doctrine of our church."
I deeply regret this and promise to take all necessary measures to ensure that such an incident does not happen again.
He paused, his gaze sweeping over everyone present, before continuing, "Of course, we will fulfill our obligations as members of this city, such as helping the city cope with threats from all sides and providing unique medical services for the people of this city."
At this point, the politicians exchanged glances, each seeing a satisfied look in their eyes.
The reason they were willing to listen to their old friend's advice and meet this high priest of the Dagonite cult was precisely because of the miraculous medical skills within their church.
If they're really that capable, they wouldn't mind lending a hand. After all, even in America, money can only solve 90% of problems. For the remaining 10%, no matter how much money you have, it can only alleviate the symptoms at best.
Unfortunately, birth, aging, illness, and death are precisely the most crucial part of this process.
And this is precisely the meaning of the existence of the Dagon Church.
Xia Ling was merely a tool for them to clean up the mess; if they couldn't reach an agreement, it would be his turn and his agents to take over.
"Mr. Casillas."
The mayor of New York City picked up the conversation, his tone revealing a hint of sincerity.
"We have heard many rumors about the medical miracles of the Dagon Church. Are these rumors true? If so, we are very willing to explore how to introduce this unique medical resource into the broader public sphere to benefit more citizens."
Benefiting the citizens? I think it's the citizens who are benefiting you!
Casillas sneered inwardly, but he didn't expose him and continued speaking in a serious tone.
"Mr. Mayor, your insight and foresight are admirable. Our Dagon Church has unique perspectives on medicine; however, these medical methods are not unlimited and require further exploration."
"Cough cough."
The New York governor coughed, interrupting Casillas as he was about to speak.
These details don't need to be discussed publicly; they should be discussed privately.
Otherwise, if the limited treatment options are made public, how can they be allocated more conveniently and effectively?
"High Priest Casillas, our meeting today is about discussing some major issues. We won't go into the details today; we can discuss them later."
The New York governor's words conveyed a subtle understanding and implication that everyone present readily grasped.
He continued, "What we would like to hear more from the Dagon Church is its long-term plan for how it can work with government agencies to promote safety and development in New York City and the entire state."
"You mean, we need to fight the Red Giant and his army of monsters?"
Casillas frowned slightly, certain that the Great Father was many times more powerful than that otherworldly being called the Blood God.
But is it worth offending a powerful demon just for this?
Not only was Casillas frowning in thought, but the New York governor was also in a somewhat unpleasant mood.
He was, after all, the leader of a cult who had never seen the world and had no idea how to speak properly.
Did you just say that so easily? That's far too undignified. These are all gentlemen here. No, there's also a secret service chief.
Two country bumpkins showed up in the tiny meeting room; no wonder the stench was overwhelming.
"I believe the Dagon Church wouldn't just stand by and do nothing about a cult, right?"
Xia Ling's smile held a hint of cunning and deeper meaning. His words fell softly in the room, like a gentle breeze that dispelled the subtle tension in the air.
"As a member of this city, I naturally have an inescapable responsibility!"
After a few seconds of deliberation, Casillas resolutely decided to go to war with the red giants.
The church is currently in a very good position, and these high-ranking government officials are considering converting to the Dagon Church. Under these circumstances, unless they intend to abandon New York, it is impossible for them not to fight the Red Giants.
This is a religious holy war, and it cannot be avoided. Moreover, Casillas has no intention of tolerating heretics.
"High Priest Casillas, will the Church of Dagon struggle against those red giants?"
The New York governor was slightly worried, not because he was afraid that Casillas would die, but because he was concerned that if Casillas died, the church would no longer be able to provide medical services.
"Our strength has never been in doubt; the likes of the Red Giants are no match for us."
That confident demeanor made him seem quite capable.
"Isn't that too much trouble, High Priest Casillas?"
"Don't make things difficult for us; it's our duty."
"good!"
The New York governor slammed his fist on the table.
"High Priest Casillas, your determination is deeply admired by us."
The New York governor stood up, his tone solemn, "Our government will fully support the actions of the Dagon Church."
Together, we will fight against the Red Giant and his monstrous army. We believe that through close cooperation, we can safeguard the peace and stability of New York City.
