Chapter 37 The Well-Organized Hell's Kitchen

Chapter 37 The Well-Organized Hell's Kitchen

A black S.H.I.E.L.D. car sped into the streets of Hell's Kitchen once again. Unlike last time, this time only Coulson and Hawkeye were conducting the investigation.

After discussing it, the two decided that a secret investigation was too unreliable.

The last time they came here with the director and openly revealed their FBI identities, although it didn't cause a big fuss, given that this is Hell's Kitchen, their appearance and identities are probably known to everyone.

Once your identity has been exposed, no amount of concealment will help.

The two decided to drop the pretense and lay their cards on the table, launching a public search.

"Barton, don't you think Hell's Kitchen seems more oppressive than the last time we were here?"

Coulson tugged at his tie, feeling an urge to untie it.

The "monster" incident made the atmosphere in Hell's Kitchen even heavier and more unsettling.

Ever since the vehicle drove in, Coulson felt like many eyes were watching him, which made him even more terrified.

He was driving, so what does that mean? It means that most of the people in Hell's Kitchen are probably watching them.

This made Coulson's heart sink; this mission was probably going to be troublesome.

"That's right, it's too strange. Even if the news that we are the FBI has spread throughout Hell's Kitchen, it shouldn't have come to this. It seems that the entire Hell's Kitchen has united and become a cohesive unit."

The person holding that rope could not possibly be Kingpin. While his methods were superb, he could never have achieved something that would make so many people willingly die for him.

Hawkeye scanned the area with his exceptional eyesight, a chill running down his spine; he had a bad feeling.

"Barton, it seems we won't have anyone in Hell's Kitchen to help us now."

Coulson was somewhat discouraged. He had thought that even if their FBI identities were known, given the complex situation in Hell's Kitchen, someone would be willing to become a "tainted witness."

However, this scenario is probably wishful thinking.

"This time it probably won't go smoothly, and there may even be danger. Coulson, the Director is handing this operation over to you. You decide whether we continue the investigation or retreat immediately."

Upon hearing this, Coulson glanced across the street, weighing the pros and cons in his mind.

As agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., facing difficulties and dangers is commonplace, but the current situation has clearly exceeded their expectations. However, retreating before the mission has even begun would be unwise.

"Retreat is not our style, Patton, but I also understand that a head-on confrontation might only put us in a more dangerous situation."

Coulson gritted his teeth and said those words; to retreat like that would make him seem too incompetent and cowardly.

This is something an honest man like him wouldn't do.

Moreover, Coulson didn't believe that anyone in Hell's Kitchen would dare to kill or arrest him, a civil servant of the nation, in broad daylight, when everyone there knew they were FBI agents.

That would be tantamount to openly declaring war on the state apparatus, and not only S.H.I.E.L.D. would not let it go, but the entire United States would.

It would never happen in movies or TV shows, where it's treated like a dead dog, ignored by everyone.

"In that case, what are your goals?"

Hawkeye asked, "Since we've decided to investigate, we need a direction, we need to know where to start."

"Let's go first. Hmm? What's that?"

Coulson abruptly stopped mid-sentence and also brought his car to a halt.

"Coulson, what's wrong?"

Hawkeye was waiting for Coulson to continue, but instead saw his colleague's astonished expression.

"I think we probably don't need to go to all that trouble to look for it."

Coulson pointed to a strangely styled church that suddenly appeared before them not far ahead.

Coulson could hardly describe how strange the church was; it looked like an ordinary church structure, but it just looked odd.

A deep sense of foreboding crept into my heart, as if a monster were lurking within this church.

However, now we don't need to bother looking anymore. We can just search the church directly. Who knows, we might find some surprises.

"How dare they?!"

Hawkeye's tone was filled with disbelief and shock, his gaze fixed on the strangely styled church in front of him, which exuded an ominous aura.

The church's exterior appeared even more eerie in the sunlight; the black stone seemed to gleam faintly under the light, and the distorted decorations and unknown totems sent chills down one's spine.

"It's fortunate they're so bold, otherwise I'd really be having a headache about where to start."

Coulson made a sarcastic remark, but a chill ran down his spine.

The fact that they dared to set up a church so openly shows what? It shows they have nothing to fear!

Coulson regretted his actions, wondering if he had acted too rashly. However, when the time came, he couldn't explain himself without asking questions first.

"But now that things have come to this, we have no way out."

Coulson took a deep breath, his eyes gradually hardening.

"Barton, get ready, we're getting out of the car. This time, we're going as FBI agents, walking into that church openly and honestly to see what secrets it holds. I doubt they'll dare do anything to us."

The two quickly got out of the car. Without saying a word, they understood each other's intentions with just a glance.

They slowly approached the strange church, each step feeling exceptionally heavy, as if the stone pavement beneath their feet bore an unspeakable pressure.

As they drew closer, the ominous aura emanating from the church grew stronger, and the surrounding crowd seemed to sense this strangeness as well, casting curious yet fearful glances their way.

Ignoring the stares of those around them, the two walked quickly to the church door. Coulson knocked lightly on the heavy wooden door and waited for a response.

Within seconds, footsteps could be heard.

Coulson swallowed hard, somewhat worried that a monster might jump out after he opened the door, and whether he should immediately give it a taste of American Iaijutsu.

However, after the footsteps stopped, the door slowly opened, revealing a middle-aged man in a black robe with a serious expression—it was Casillas.

The ordinary-looking face immediately disappointed Coulson, but at the same time he was secretly pleased, at least he didn't have to make a move as soon as he stepped onto the field.

"Welcome. Are you here to listen to the teachings of the Great Father? Whoever you are, as long as you believe in the Great Father, our Dagon Church will welcome you."

"We are FBI agents, and these are our credentials. We suspect there are illegal items in your church, and we are now conducting a search."

Coulson didn't waste any words and directly showed Coulson his forged documents. After observing them for a while, Casillas nodded and said something that surprised Coulson.

Do you have a search warrant?

Casillas's words were gentle, but they left Coulson completely bewildered.

Does anyone know that a cult is requesting a search warrant? He didn't forge one!
