Forests Don't Support Idle Goblins
Chapter 207 The First Signs of Crisis
"So, after that guy finished eating, he jumped into the underground river?" Charles rubbed his face and asked the buck-toothed man in front of him carefully.
Bucktooth also looked completely bewildered by Naga's thoughts. He nodded and said, "Yes, I asked him, and when he jumped into the water he said it was nap time, and then there was a gurgling sound of water."
"Nap time?" Charles frowned. "Is this guy really a prince of the Naga race? He seems like he's just here to freeload."
However, he immediately shook his head slightly, "It shouldn't be fake, after all, you can still tell the difference from the mother tree."
"Chief, what's next?" Bucktooth asked. He had things to do that afternoon, and this matter seemed a bit troublesome, so he decided to ask for clarification.
"You should just get back to work." Charles waved his hand, dismissing his subordinate. "Never mind him for now, let's plan the next steps for the clan's development."
He took out his notebook, spread it out on the table, and began to think about the next steps. "The debugging of the 'Rune Mortar' needs to be monitored every day. No one can keep detailed data records right now, so I have to do it myself. As for the shoes and armor, I still need to ask Mary to urge them on..."
Charles was making careful notes in his notebook. A little while later, just as he was about to ask someone to check if the Naga had changed its name to "Chen Daodi", a slight scraping sound of scales came from outside the stone house. Soon, a Pazzani, still a little wet, appeared at the door.
Meanwhile, Sansio, who was flying around nearby, said with a somewhat sour face, "My older brother is here. You can go over there. Next time, if you're wet, don't go near those 'Red Bulls'."
After saying that, he flew away on his own.
Pazzani glanced at the flying goblin and said, "You're here, leader of the goblins."
"You're up?" Charles put down his pen and looked towards the door. "Come in and talk."
Pazzani ducked and squeezed into the stone house. He looked around the room and said after a few seconds, "Not bad, but not as good as our underwater palace."
Charles chuckled, thinking to himself, "As expected of someone who hasn't even completed the annual trial." He looked at the other man and asked, "Can we talk now?"
"Hmm," Pazzani took out his pocket watch and checked the time. "I'm five minutes late. It took me some time to find you. I need to make up for the time before the end of the afternoon."
"Uh, you haven't been sleeping all this time, have you?" Charles asked, increasingly finding the prince unreliable.
"Yes, but the underground river is a bit cold, and I can't sleep well," Pazzani said casually.
Charles's lips twitched. "Not at ease? You've been underwater all this time?"
Pazzani looked at the goblin in front of him and frowned slightly. "That was during break time. If we need to do anything, we need to do it during designated times. Now is the time to get things done."
"You said before that your people were threatened?" Charles asked hesitantly.
"Yes, the situation is a bit troublesome. We are threatened by a powerful group of goblins." Pazzani's tone was serious, as if to indicate that he was not joking. "I apologize for what happened before. I wasn't mentally prepared. When the Mother Tree told me that I was going to seek help from a group of goblins, I was a little reluctant."
"No, wait a minute," Shar waved his hand, somewhat confused by the Naga's "change of face," "Your people are under severe threat, and then you..."
He pointed to the pocket watch in the other person's pocket, but didn't ask the rest of the question.
Pazzani glanced down at his pockets, then said seriously, "Yes, the issue of the tribe is still very serious, but that doesn't affect my schedule. While I'm working, I will seriously consider the pressing issues at hand, but I can't waste my rest time either."
Charles smirked and let out a light sigh of annoyance. "So this is a Naga prince who works a regular job. Work is work, and rest is rest. I handle life-or-death crises for my people while I'm working, but that doesn't affect my regular rest and meals."
He desperately wanted to tell the Naga opposite him, "I'm sorry, our group is too small to solve your group's crisis. You can hurry back during your working hours. Maybe you can see the Mother Tree again before you 'get off work' this afternoon."
However, after thinking about it, he decided to suppress his annoyance and patiently listen to what the other person had to say.
Seeing the goblin leader opposite him make a "please speak" gesture, Pazzani said again with a serious expression: "I was asked to come by the elders. We have been praying to nature for a long time, but there has been no response until the last two months. The will of nature has responded. If I want to completely solve those problems, I must embark on this path of trial."
"You said earlier that the ones threatening you were a bunch of goblins?" Seeing the "office worker prince" in front of him start speaking properly, Charles also slowly composed himself. However, he was quite impressed with the other man, as he could switch between these two states so naturally. He remembered an old employee in his former company department who, no matter how listless or haggard he was after lunch break, would always be energetic when he received a work call and say, "Hello, it's me. How can I help you?"
He even wanted to ask the Naga prince across the table, "Old Chen, is that you? Did you also travel through time?"
However, he quickly dismissed the idea, as the other party was clearly not what he thought.
"Yes, those goblins attacked us on their own initiative, and they can even dive into the water." Pazzani gestured with his signature hand gestures, trying to describe the enemies his tribe had encountered.
"As far as I know, goblins aren't very good swimmers, and," Charles paused, then continued, "you all look quite tall, so goblins shouldn't pose much of a threat to you."
"No, Chief," Pazzani quickly waved his hand, "Those goblins are wearing strange leather clothes that allow them to swim very smoothly in the water. They swim like snakes, and they don't seem to need to breathe much in the water."
Seeing that Charles across from him was squinting and starting to think, Pazzani waited a few seconds before speaking again: "Those goblins from the Feathered Serpent Kingdom also tame giant lizards. Those lizards have the ability to petrify, and our water magic can hardly harm them."
"Wait," Charles raised his hand to interrupt, "You mean the attackers were goblins from the Feathered Serpent Kingdom?"
"Yes," Pazzani nodded, "and..."
He thought for a moment, then stared at the goblin opposite him and said:
"I noticed that they seem to be marching south."
