Forests Don't Support Idle Goblins
Chapter 144 You must be under an illusion
This is where dreams begin, and where dreams come true.
"Is this the loyalty of you centaurs?" Goblin Scarface slammed several tubers in front of the centaur herd. "I am the overlord; you must supply me with venison, understand?"
"My lord, we don't have any more venison." The centaur chieftain pulled a few of his people aside, his tone cautious.
"I saw those elk you're raising. If you don't want me to order the ogres to kill them, provide me with an adult elk." Three-Scar chuckled coldly, the three long scars on his face writhing, making him look even uglier.
"That's all the food we have left!" a centaur shouted, but his mouth was immediately covered.
Upon hearing what the other party said, Three Scars didn't say anything, only sneered. He knew that the other chieftain was afraid that he would report the situation of the centaurs to General Evil Throat, which might cause the centaur tribe to hand over more supplies.
"Bring a large antlered deer." The chieftain finally relented. He looked at the short goblin in front of him, but his gaze drifted to the ogres standing not far away. The ogres' greedy eyes were sizing up their tribesmen around them.
"Chieftain..." Several centaurs tried to say something, but were stopped by the chieftain's wave. Then a large antlered deer was led over with a rope around its neck.
"You're very sensible." Scarface grinned, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth. Moreover, his teeth looked incomplete, with several missing, as if they had been knocked out by someone.
The argument ended quickly. The centaur herd watched angrily as the ogre carried the Great Horned Deer away, while Threescar, like a mutt who had just beaten up another dog, swaggered ahead of the ogre.
"He can only eat half a leg of meat by himself, yet he asked us for a whole deer."
"That's too greedy."
"I shouldn't have signed that pledge of allegiance in the first place."
The tribesmen stood in the village, discussing amongst themselves, while the centaur chieftain returned dejectedly to his thatched hut. The disappearance of his daughter a few days ago, coupled with the oppression he had been subjected to recently, made him question his decision. However, he also knew that there was little chance of winning by fighting the enemy head-on. In that case, not only would the village be destroyed, but many of his tribesmen would also die on the road to exile.
"Those ogres are stationed outside the village; it seems the goblins deliberately arranged this." The chieftain took out his longbow and several arrows with bone arrowheads. "If anything happens in the village now, these ogres will definitely attack us immediately."
Centaurs are different from the armies of the goblins. They rely more on bows and arrows. Ironware is not abundant in their tribe, let alone "high-tech" items like metal arrowheads. Moreover, even the weakest enemy can charge with a thick wooden club, which reduces the centaurs' combat effectiveness.
"Father." A soft call startled the centaur chieftain. He immediately turned around and saw Evita lying in the shadows in the corner. He had been thinking and hadn't noticed his daughter hiding there.
"You're back? When did you get back?" he said with surprise, but then, remembering that his daughter had ignored his warnings and run away on her own, his face hardened again.
"I just got back. I sneaked in while you were negotiating with that warlord or whatever he was saying." Evita stood up from the ground. "Father, I found the unicorn."
"Really?" The clan chief immediately took a few steps closer to his daughter, but he stopped abruptly. Reason told him that things were not that simple.
"It's true, the unicorn is in the south." Evita took a strand of long golden hair from her pouch and presented it to her father with both hands.
The centaur chieftain did not immediately take the longhair, but instead looked his daughter up and down. She was wearing a strange set of equipment, and even her longbow and arrows were not the horn-wood composite bows made by the tribe.
"What have you been through?" he asked seriously, reaching for the strand of golden hair. Then his eyes widened. "This is a unicorn's tail hair! Who cut it off? How could they do such a thing?"
Evita's lips twitched. She really wanted to say that someone had not only cut off the unicorn's tail hair, but also planned to build a shed for it, and even wanted to put a stone mill or something.
"Father, I'm sorry. I didn't listen to you and left the village without permission, but along the way..." Evita began to recount her experiences over the past few days in detail.
A few minutes later, the centaur chieftain interrupted her, "You mean the unicorn went south, found itself a new territory, and submitted to the owner of that territory?"
His tone wavered slightly, and a hint of anticipation flickered in his eyes. "What race is the other party? Human? Or a fairy dragon?"
If the other party is powerful, he can use their strength to ensure the safety of his tribe's migration.
After she finished speaking, she even looked away. Evita didn't know how to explain the current situation to her father.
"Goblins?" The centaur chieftain frowned. This answer was completely unexpected. He had just encountered those little monsters; they were greedy and stupid. He simply couldn't believe that the unicorns would abandon them and "join" a group of goblins.
He stared at his daughter, as if trying to discern whether she was under some kind of magical illusion or mind-controlling spell.
The atmosphere remained eerily quiet for a few seconds before the centaur chieftain broke the silence: "You stay home and don't wander off."
He didn't believe his daughter's story at all. His experience over the years told him that his daughter must have been captured by the goblin and then subjected to some strange spells that made her mistakenly believe she had seen a unicorn. The goblin wanted to trap his tribe in a migration, so as to capture and enslave his people at the lowest possible cost.
"Father, listen to me, I really did encounter unicorns. Although the goblin thing sounds unbelievable, it's true." Evita gestured with her hands, eager to explain the details. "Those goblins were different. They had exploding fruits, protected the tree people and goblin tribes, and could even ride giant ants. They ate and lived much better than we did."
"Enough," her father interrupted her in a low voice. "Do you believe what you're saying? You just had a dream, or you were under an illusion. How could goblins be like that?"
"But, Father..." Evita tried everything to make her father believe what she was saying, but he completely ignored her. He simply didn't believe that a group of goblins could develop to that level.
"You stay in the village and don't run around." The centaur chieftain ordered his daughter sternly. The more he listened, the more he felt that his daughter had been "brainwashed" by evil magic. How could a goblin pat a unicorn's butt and cut off a tuft of tail hair with his own hands? The unicorn would either kill him with its head or kick him away.
"I'm going out now. It's dangerous outside. I hope you'll still be home when I come back." He said this with a stern face, then walked out of the hut. He then called over a strong centaur, "Oreko, keep an eye on her. Don't let her wander off."
The centaur stomped its forelegs heavily on the ground. "Yes, Chieftain."
Then, Evita's father gathered a few people and prepared to go to General Evilthroat's military camp to try to persuade him to reduce his exploitation of the centaur race, since he still needed his own people.
"Goblins," he muttered with a hint of disgust. He had seen those creatures huddled in burrows when he visited the military camp before, and his tribe had fought them several times in previous battles. Not to mention the "Overseer" outside the village who made him grit his teeth in hatred.
…………
After an unknown amount of time, Evita looked somewhat discouraged at the burly centaur standing at the door. She had tried several times to persuade him to let her leave the hut, but had been ruthlessly rejected each time.
"What should I do? My father doesn't believe me now, and I can't tell the goblin leader what's going on here." She paced back and forth in the hut, thinking about what to do.
Knock out the centaur at the door? Orek is the strongest warrior in the tribe, and also a cautious hunter; I have no chance against him.
Should he sneak out after his father returns and falls asleep? That would still be useless; he couldn't possibly bring the unicorn back, and rashly bringing Shire and the others to the centaur tribe would put them in danger.
Just as she was pacing anxiously, several knocking sounds came from the shadows of the thatched hut.
Evita immediately looked over warily and saw a green arm emerging from the shadows, holding a black dagger and tapping something nearby.
"Who is it?" she whispered, then drew the short blade from her waist.
Then a goblin's head emerged from the shadows, followed by its body. This strange entrance made Evita tense, but the goblin's clothing immediately reminded her of something.
"Did your chief send you?" Evita was too preoccupied with why the other party was in her hut. "I couldn't persuade the chief, who is also my father."
Broken Tooth looked at the centaur girl in front of him who was on the verge of tears. He waved his hand to stop her, then took out two small cloth bags from his pocket.
Broken Tooth looked at the cloth bag in his hand, trying hard to recall Ciel's instructions when he left. He had followed her ever since he left the fortress in Evita, with the goal of escorting her all the way to the centaur forest village.
He quickly took out a cloth bag, handed it to the centaur girl opposite him without saying a word, and gestured for her to open it.

Evita took it, opened it, and saw a sentence written in Common Language.
"Bring a few people over."
