Haha; I'm the author of this dog story. Happy New Year everyone!

The jungle before dawn is like a sleeping giant, exhaling a damp, cold white mist with each breath.

Qi Tongwei lay prone in the damp grass, the lens of his binoculars veiled in a thin layer of mist. He didn't wipe it away, but simply squinted slightly, staring through the blurry white light at the winding dirt road.

All I could hear in the headphones was the hissing sound of electricity.

"They're here." Vic's voice was very soft, as if it were right next to your eardrum. "Two pickup trucks and one troop transport truck. They're 800 meters away."

Qi Tongwei pressed down on the microphone: "Don't rush. Let it go into that bend before you shoot."

Patrice beside him was restless. He clutched the gilded Desert Eagle in his hand, breathing heavily like a shark that had smelled blood.

"This is M23's reconnaissance team?" Patrice asked in a low voice. "They don't look like they have any superhuman abilities."

"That's because you can't see the heavy machine guns on their vehicles." Qi Tongwei didn't turn around. "Tell the men below to put the safety on and keep their fingers off the trigger. If anyone accidentally fires, I'll shoot them first."

Patrice snorted and growled a few words in a local dialect into the walkie-talkie.

The sound of the convoy's engines grew closer. It was the distinctive roar of diesel engines, mixed with the crunching of wheels over gravel.

The first pickup truck rounded the bend. A DShK heavy machine gun was mounted on the truck bed, and the gunner, wearing sunglasses and chewing gum, casually swept the barrel across the roadside bushes.

Next came the troop carriers, and finally the pickup trucks bringing up the rear.

Thirty people. Fully armed.

When the taillights of the last car also entered the pre-set firing zone, Qi Tongwei's fingers dug into the mud.

"beat."

There were no signal flares, no bugle calls.

There was only one crisp gunshot.

Qi Tongwei's HK416 trembled slightly. The machine gunner in the first pickup truck tilted his head back, his sunglasses flew off, and he fell into the truck bed like a rag doll.

"Fire! Fire!" Patrice roared.

The hillsides on both sides instantly erupted in chaos. Dozens of AKs roared simultaneously, their fire tearing through the morning mist. Bullets rained down on the convoy in the middle of the road.

The troop carrier's windshield shattered instantly, and the driver slumped over the steering wheel, motionless. Soldiers tumbled out of the vehicle; some screamed, others crawled on the ground.

"Hit! We won!" Not far away, a tribal chief stood up excitedly, waving his rifle.

"Get down!" Vic yelled into his headset.

late.

Two streaks of fire suddenly shot out from behind the troop carrier in the middle of the road.

"Boom! Boom!"

Two RPG rockets, trailing plumes of smoke, struck the position where the leader was located with pinpoint accuracy. Dirt and severed limbs flew into the air together.

The crowd that had been cheering just moments before erupted into chaos.

"Hold on!" Qi Tongwei yelled into the microphone, "Don't run around!"

The M23s reacted with astonishing speed. The chaos following the surprise attack lasted less than ten seconds. The surviving soldiers quickly established a defensive line using the wreckage of vehicles, and several squad machine guns began to provide rhythmic suppressive fire.

"Da da da... da da da..."

These short bursts of fire were extremely deadly. Those tribal militias who only wanted to unleash a barrage of bullets were quickly overwhelmed and unable to raise their heads.

"They're trying to encircle us!" Vic's voice became urgent. "The left flank! Those two tribes can't hold on!"

Qi Tongwei turned the telescope around.

On the left hillside, seven or eight M23 soldiers were using the bushes for cover, flanking the enemy like ghosts. The tribal militiamen guarding the area, terrified by the earlier rocket attacks, began to retreat.

"Damn it!" Patrice cursed. "These spineless cowards!"

He tried to rush over, but Qi Tongwei grabbed him and held him down.

"It's no use you going there now," Qi Tongwei said, looking at the crumbling breach. "Let them learn a lesson."

"What about the left side?"

Qi Tongwei pressed the earpiece: "Kasonga, it's up to you now."

"receive."

Kasonga's calm voice came through the headphones.

Just as the M23 flanking squad was about to reach the ridge, gunfire suddenly rang out from the dense forest to their side and rear.

That wasn't the chaotic sound of an AK, but rather crisp, rhythmic, and precise shooting.

The Greyhound squad has made their move.

The two M23 soldiers at the forefront exploded in a cloud of blood from their chests and fell backward. Before the rest could react, another round of bursts of fire followed.

This special operations team, personally trained by Qi Tongwei and Vic, acted like a sharp scalpel, directly disrupting M23's offensive rhythm.

"Push them forward!" Qi Tongwei stood up, pointing his gun at the remaining enemy in the middle of the road. "They have no way out!"

Seeing that the threat to their flanks had been eliminated, the tribal militias who had initially wanted to flee regained their spirits. Beating a drowning dog was their specialty.

"Kill them!"

Hundreds of people rushed down the hillside, their shouts drowning out the gunfire.

The remaining M23 soldiers tried to surrender, but the bloodthirsty tribal militia gave them no chance.

Ten minutes later, the gunfire stopped.

The air was thick with the smell of gunpowder and blood.

Qi Tongwei walked down the hillside. His leather boots clattered as they stepped on the scattered bullet casings.

Patrice was directing his men to clean up the battlefield. He looked excited and was directing two of his men to remove the intact DShK heavy machine gun from the pickup truck.

"Qi!" Patrice grinned when she saw Qi Tongwei, revealing a set of white teeth. "Look at this gun! And that RPG! They're all top-notch stuff!"

Qi Tongwei did not laugh. He walked to the body of an M23 soldier and turned the body over with his toe.

This is a very young soldier, well-equipped. He has a tactical vest, a Kevlar helmet, and even a personal communicator.

Qi Tongwei bent down and pulled a map out of the tactical vest pocket of the corpse.

On the map, this area has been marked with a red circle.

"Don't just focus on picking up guns." Qi Tongwei handed the map to Patrice. "Take a look at this."

Patrice took the map, glanced at it, and her smile slowly froze.

"This is... an attack route map?"

"This is the clearing map." Qi Tongwei looked at the tribal militiamen around him who were still cheering and scrambling for spoils. "What came today were just a few rats scouting ahead. The real elephants are yet to come."

He turned around and looked at the group of soldiers, their clothes tattered and their faces painted with greasepaint.

"Assemble!" Qi Tongwei shouted.

The noisy crowd gradually quieted down.

Qi Tongwei pointed to the corpse on the ground.

"Look at them." Qi Tongwei's voice echoed through the valley. "They're better equipped than you, and their marksmanship is better. If 'Greyhound' hadn't cut off their retreat, you would be the ones dead here."

The leaders who had just tried to escape lowered their heads.

"But," Qi Tongwei changed the subject, "we won."

A commotion arose in the crowd.

"Because we're together." Qi Tongwei raised his fist. "As long as we follow orders and don't expose our backs to the enemy, this jungle is our home ground. M23 is a human too; he'll die if a bullet hits him."

"You'll die too!" Patrice raised his Desert Eagle and fired a shot into the air. "This land is ours!"

"Ours!"

Cheers erupted again. But this time, it was no longer the chaotic clamor of before; instead, it carried a confidence forged in the crucible of blood and fire.

Qi Tongwei looked at the group of people. He knew that a seed had been planted.

Although it is still fragile, and although it is still wild and chaotic, it has already sprouted.

"Clean up the bodies thoroughly," Qi Tongwei told Patrice. "Leave no trace. Make M23 think this reconnaissance team vanished into thin air. Delay it as long as possible."

"Understood." Patrice nodded. At this moment, he no longer hesitated for a moment in response to Qi Tongwei's orders.
