Hong Kong film: Rise of Prison Break

Chapter 60 Wendi Qian's Prison Break

The call was disconnected. Jin Tianqi listened to the busy tone on the receiver, took several deep breaths, and barely managed to suppress the greed rising in his heart due to the enormous wealth that was within reach, as well as... a strange, lingering, and faint feeling of unease.

It was as if something was calling to him from the darkness.

He got up irritably and shook the woman, who was still lazing in bed, awake: "Get up! Wake up! Something terrible has happened, Qian Wendi has escaped from prison!"

"What the hell... Can't a person get some sleep?! What are you yelling about so early in the morning...?"

With messy hair and sleepy eyes, Lily grumbled in dissatisfaction, but when she heard the words "Qian Wendi escaped from prison," she jumped up from the bed as if pricked by a needle, shook her head violently, her eyes widened, and her voice changed: "What did you say?! Qian Wendi is out?! He... how did he get out?!"

Her face drained of color instantly, her eyes filled with genuine fear. She quickly grabbed Jin Tianqi's arm to confirm, "Really? It's in the news? Could he... could he already know about us...?"

She subconsciously turned her head to look in the mirror, as if trying to confirm whether she had left any flaws.

"What? Scared? Want to turn back?" Jin Tianqi shook off her hand, sneered, and stared at her with a sinister look in his eyes.

"Don't forget, you were the one who voluntarily climbed into my bed, and you were the one who told me many of Qian Wendi's habits and secrets! Now you want to turn back? Qian Wendi will kill you first!"

"No... I... I was just afraid that I might accidentally affect your plans, Seventh Brother..." Lili quickly put on a pitiful expression, her voice trembling, but a hint of resentment and even more determined calculation flashed deep in her eyes.

There's no turning back now.

The two quickly reviewed the flawed "emergency plan," then hastily packed their things and hurriedly left their love nest, heading in different directions.

Unbeknownst to them, right across the street from this old building, on the street corner, stood a dilapidated bread cart covered in mud, unremarkable and quietly parked.

The car window was rolled down halfway, and a man wearing a dirty baseball cap was coldly watching their flustered backs through his sunglasses.

It was Qian Wendi.

He watched as Kindaichi got into a taxi, and then watched as Lili flagged down another taxi and drove off in the opposite direction.

He slowly and forcefully spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva, which fell onto the dirty ground outside the car window.

He shifted into gear, the van let out a low growl, and started clumsily, following the direction of the taxi that Kindaichi was riding in at a distance, neither too fast nor too slow.

Meanwhile, on the rooftop of a taller commercial building not far from here.

Zhang Wenjie put down his high-powered binoculars, the morning breeze ruffling his clothes.

His face was expressionless, showing neither excitement nor tension; he seemed more like an outsider waiting for the show to begin.

He picked up the walkie-talkie from the nearby concrete railing, pressed the call button, and calmly issued the order: "The targets have split up. Number one, follow target A; Number two, follow target B. Maintain distance and stay concealed. Number three, stay put and monitor the nest."

"The oriole is unaware of the mantis behind..."

He paused, then a clear, cold smile finally curved his lips as he uttered the last two words into the microphone: "Action."

The roads on the edge of the remote industrial area have few vehicles.

Jin Tianqi was driving a nearly new Toyota sedan, his mind racing with thoughts of how to explain things to Liu Yaozu, while also figuring out how to get rid of that troublesome woman, Lili, after he got the money.

Suddenly, a dilapidated white van with peeling paint sped out from the side road, violently swerved, and cut right in front of his car!

"I'll throw your nuts!" Kindaichi was terrified and slammed on the brakes. The tires screeched as they rubbed against the ground, and he barely stopped before crashing into the back of the bread truck.

Enraged, he cursed and his left hand instinctively reached for the glove compartment, where a folding machete wrapped in newspaper was hidden.

"You bastard! Can't you drive? Are you in a hurry to be reborn?!" He forcefully pushed open the driver's side door with his right hand, leaned out, and was about to start cursing, looking aggressive.

However, when he saw who got out of the driver's seat of the dilapidated van, all his angry words caught in his throat, and the ferocity on his face froze instantly. Then, like a face-changing act, he quickly switched to an expression of extreme astonishment, which then turned into "concern".

"Di...Di-ge?!" Jin Tianqi's voice trembled with shock. He instinctively looked left and right across the desolate road, as if checking if anyone else had seen him. "You...what are you doing here? The news...the news said you escaped from prison! It's too dangerous here, you have to leave!"

He spoke quickly, his face filled with anxiety for his brother.

But his left hand, hidden behind the car door, was gripping the folding machete he had just pulled out, his knuckles white from the excessive force, and veins bulging.

The cold touch of the knife hilt reassured him slightly, and his muscles tensed up subtly, like a hyena poised to pounce, waiting for its target to enter the optimal attack range.

Qian Wendi's face was expressionless, even carrying a strange calm.

He approached slowly, his steps unhurried, still wearing that slightly wrinkled, cheap outfit, but his eyes were fixed on Jin Tianqi's face like icicles.

"Ah Qi..." Qian Wendi began, his voice slightly hoarse but unusually steady, "Tell me, have I, Qian Wendi... ever mistreated you?"

Jin Tianqi's heart pounded. He felt that Qian Wendi was completely different from usual. Beneath that calm surface, there seemed to be a raging fire and a chilling coldness.

But he forced himself to remain calm, putting on a fawning, even aggrieved, expression.

"No...no! Absolutely not! Brother Di, you've always taken good care of me, I remember it all!"

As he spoke, he subtly adjusted his footing and center of gravity, calculating how close Qian Wendi would be to taking another step closer.

"As expected of brothers..." Qian Wendi seemed to sigh with "relief", took another step forward, and raised his right hand, as if to pat Jin Tianqi's shoulder affectionately as usual.

The two were now only two steps apart.

Jin Tianqi's eyes followed Qian Wendi's raised arm closely, his entire attention focused on that hand. He slightly turned his left wrist, which was hidden behind the door, changing the way he held the knife from a straight grip to an angle more suitable for a side thrust.

"Brother Di!" Jin Tianqi's voice was trembling with urgency and tears. "It's because we're brothers that I'm worried about you! The news has issued an arrest warrant, and police all over the world are looking for you! You have to run! If you run now, you might still have a chance to leave Hong Kong!"
