The Different Color Tracks in the Detective Conan World

Chapter 10 Echoes from the Amusement Park and the Unspoken Promise

After several days of continuous rain, the sky finally cleared up. Ran Mouri, clutching two amusement park tickets, excitedly ran to Lin Mo's apartment: "Lin Mo-kun, these are trial operation tickets for the new amusement park owned by the Sonoko family! She said she absolutely has to let you experience it too!"

The tickets were printed with images of a carousel and roller coaster, their colors so vibrant they looked like something out of a fairy tale. Looking at Lan's expectant eyes, Lin Mo couldn't bear to refuse: "Okay, when are we going?"

"Let's do it this afternoon! Conan and Ai Haibara can go too!" Ran said with a smile, the corners of her eyes curving like crescent moons.

The amusement park was bustling with activity in the afternoon; the screams of roller coasters echoed as soon as they entered. The park staff had been waiting at the entrance for a while and waved to them, saying, "Over here! I've already bought cotton candy!"

Ishikawa Yuki and Sera Masumi also arrived. Ishikawa Yuki was taking pictures of the carousel with a Polaroid camera in her hand; Sera, on the other hand, crossed her arms and looked at the haunted house in the distance, eager to try it out: "I heard the special effects of that 'Midnight Haunted House' are super realistic, anyone dare to come with me and try it?"

"No way!" Sonoko immediately waved her hand. "Go yourself!"

Conan dragged Ai Haibara towards the game area: "I want to play the shooting game and win that giant detective doll!"

Lin Mo and Lan walked behind, watching the noisy crowd ahead, and the corners of their mouths unconsciously turned up. Sunlight streamed through the gaps in the Ferris wheel, falling on the tips of Lan's hair and gilding them with a soft golden light.

"It's been so long since it's been this lively," Ran said with emotion. "When Shinichi was around, we used to come to the amusement park all the time." Her tone became a little somber when she mentioned Shinichi.

Lin Mo knew what was on her mind and said softly, "He will definitely come back."

Lan paused for a moment, then smiled: "Yes, I know."

The two walked to the lake and rented a pedal boat. The lake water was clear, reflecting the blue sky and white clouds. Roller coasters flashed by in the distance, leaving behind a string of cheers. Lan pedaled, humming a lighthearted song, like a bird freed from its cage.

"Lin Mojun, you seem to rarely smile," Lan suddenly said.

Lin Mo paused, then asked, "Really?"

"Yes," Lan nodded, "I always feel like you have a lot on your mind, like there's an invisible wall around you." She looked at him sincerely, "Although I don't know what you've been through, it's okay to relax sometimes."

Looking into her clear eyes, Lin Mo felt as if a crack had been broken through the hard shell around his heart. He had indeed become accustomed to being tense, accustomed to remaining vigilant in danger, but he had forgotten how rare such tranquility was.

"Thank you, Lan." He smiled, the most relaxed he had been in a long time.

As evening fell, everyone gathered to rest under the Ferris wheel. Conan proudly showed off his won detective doll to Ai Haibara, only to be met with a cold glare from her. Ishikawa Yuki distributed Polaroid photos to everyone, one of which showed Lin Mo and Ran's backs on a boat, sunlight falling on the water like scattered gold dust.

"This photo is really good." Ishikawa Yuki smiled and handed it to Lin Mo. "Here, this is for you."

Lin Mo took the photo, his fingertips touching the warmth of the photographic paper, and felt a warm feeling in his heart.

Sera suddenly pointed to the fireworks display in the distance: "Look, they're about to set off fireworks!"

As night fell, the first firework exploded in the night sky, its dazzling light illuminating everyone's faces. Sonoko excitedly pulled Ran to take pictures, while Conan and Ai stood a little further away, looking up at the fireworks, their faces unusually free of their usual seriousness.

Lin Mo's gaze swept across the crowd and landed on the entrance not far away—a man in a black trench coat was standing in the shadows, his hat brim pulled low, holding a cell phone in his hand, the camera seemingly pointed in their direction.

Are they members of the organization?

Lin Mo's heart skipped a beat. He subtly took a few steps in that direction, nudging Conan beside him with his elbow. Conan immediately understood, following his gaze, his expression changing slightly.

"I'll handle it," Conan said in a low voice, quietly slipping into the crowd.

Lin Mo didn't follow. He knew Conan's abilities, and more importantly, he couldn't leave—if the other party was testing him, his departure would only put others in danger.

He walked up to Haibara and whispered, "Be careful, there might be trouble."

Haibara's eyes sharpened instantly. She nodded and subtly moved closer to Ran and Sonoko.

The fireworks continued, their dazzling light masking the commotion in the shadows. Lin Mo watched as Conan followed the man in black into the haunted house, feeling a mix of worry and trust. He knew that the seemingly innocent little guy always managed to surprise him at crucial moments.

Not long after, Conan returned, carrying a broken miniature camera. "It was an outer member of the organization; he's already escaped, but I managed to capture his face on camera. Dr. Agasa will investigate."

Lin Mo breathed a sigh of relief: "Are you alright?"

"It's nothing." Conan shook the camera. "They seem to be just here to confirm our whereabouts; they haven't taken any action yet."

After the fireworks ended, everyone prepared to go home. As they reached the amusement park entrance, Lan suddenly remembered something: "Oh, right, Lin Mojun, next week is my birthday. I'm planning a small party at the agency; you absolutely have to come!"

"Okay, I'll definitely be there," Lin Mo replied with a smile.

Yukiya Ishikawa said, "I can make cakes, and I'll bring them to everyone to eat."

"Then I'll be in charge of buying the drinks!" Sonoko said, patting her chest.

Sera raised an eyebrow: "You can ask me for help if you need it, like... how about I fend off those guys who want to give Ran a gift?"

Everyone laughed and joked around, the atmosphere as relaxed as if there had never been a gloomy day.

As they parted, Haibara walked up to Lin Mo and handed him a small box. "This is for you."

Lin Mo opened it; inside was a silver bookmark with a simple star trail pattern engraved on it. "This is…"

"I saw you looking at the stars at the art museum last time," Haibara said softly, her eyes slightly evasive. "The professor said this material is fireproof, so you can use it when you're reading."

Lin Mo gripped the bookmark tightly, feeling its cool touch on her fingertips, but her heart was warmed: "Thank you."

Haibara didn't say anything more, turned around and left with Conan and Dr. Agasa.

Lin Mo stood there, watching their figures disappear around the street corner, clutching the bookmark and the Polaroid photo tightly in her hand. The lake in the photo shimmered, and Lan's smile was as dazzling as the sunlight.

He knew the peace was only temporary; the shadow of the organization always loomed overhead, ready to fall at any moment. But at this moment, he didn't want to think about those heavy things; he only wanted to remember the laughter and joy in the amusement park, and the smiling faces of the people around him.

Lan's birthday party next week might be another calm before the storm. But no matter what, he will protect this peace and cherish these people who deserve it.

Lin Mo looked up at the night sky; the stars were much brighter than usual. He could almost see those intertwined lines of fate, quietly extending and entwining in the darkness, yet all heading in the same direction—that hopeful future.

He gripped the bookmark tightly and turned to walk towards the apartment. His steps were firm, as if he had long been prepared to face anything. Some promises don't need to be spoken; they can take root in the heart and become the strength to move forward.
