Douluo Continent: Thunder Roar
Chapter 33
The next day, as soon as the school bell rang, Ling Yu was already seated in his seat. Sunlight streamed in obliquely through the window, casting a warm, shimmering patch on the desk. He sat by the window, one hand casually supporting his chin, his gaze fixed on the teacher's podium, his expression indifferent; no one could guess what he was thinking.
At this moment, Zhou Yi pushed open the door and walked in.
She was still wearing that dark suit today, her long hair was neatly tied up in a bun at the back of her head, revealing a section of her fair neck.
His gaze swept around the classroom as usual, and only after confirming that all the students were seated did he slowly open the lesson plan.
"Class begins." Her voice wasn't loud, but it carried a touch of habitual seriousness.
The first half of the class went uneventfully, much like the previous few days, with everything proceeding as planned.
But Ling Yu still keenly noticed a detail.
During the break, Zhou Yi did not stay at the podium to organize her lesson plans, but instead went to the window alone and stared at the scenery outside for a while.
When a student came up with a question, she slowly came to her senses, a faint smile appearing on her face, and patiently and meticulously explained to the student until the student fully understood.
But once the students left, she returned to her original spot, her gaze fixed on the direction of the Martial Soul Department's office building, and stood there quietly for a long time.
The sunlight fell on her, gilding her profile with a soft, pale gold.
Her expression remained calm, showing no sign of emotion, but her eyes seemed to hold something heavy, concealing unspoken thoughts.
Ling Yu silently withdrew his gaze, already having made up his mind that someone was causing trouble.
He didn't know who that person was, nor did he know what the other person had said to Zhou Yi, but Zhou Yi's current state clearly indicated that she had been gossiped about or influenced in some way.
Zhou Yi was the first "answer sheet" he submitted after joining Shrek Academy. Regardless of whether the answer sheet was right or wrong in the end, it was a valuable experience for him.
He doesn't care who's behind this, if they want to smear this report, he will never pretend not to see it.
But now is not the time to act rashly.
He needs to figure out what that person said and how much Zhou Yi can endure. Only by understanding these things can he decide on the next step.
Soon, the bell rang, signaling the end of the break, and the second period proceeded as scheduled.
Zhou Yi put aside her inner turmoil and threw herself back into the lesson. She continued until she finished explaining the last point of knowledge, assigned the day's homework, and then promptly announced the end of get out of class.
That's all for today.
She closed her lesson plan, hugged it to her chest, and turned to leave, but when she reached the door, she suddenly stopped.
Ling Yu subconsciously looked up and saw Zhou Yi standing there with her back to the classroom, as if she was thinking about something, or as if she was hesitating whether to turn around.
After two seconds, she still didn't say anything, gently pushed open the door and walked out.
Ling Yu watched the door slowly close before turning his gaze away and starting to tidy up the things on the table.
He had just stood up when he saw Wang Dong'er stroll over slowly, stand by his table, cross her arms, and smile, looking like she was in a particularly good mood.
"Are you all packed?" Wang Dong'er asked, her tone light and casual.
Ling Yu glanced at her and said calmly, "What is it?"
"Of course something's up." Wang Dong'er raised her chin slightly, her tone carrying a hint of self-righteousness. "You've already found a location for your clinic? Where is it?"
Ling Yu paused in his actions, looked up at her, and asked, "Why are you asking this?"
"Of course I'm going to take a look," Wang Dong'er said matter-of-factly. "You're moving out anyway, so I need to know where you'll be staying, otherwise I won't be able to find you."
Ling Yu looked at her quietly, his eyes showing no emotion.
Wang Dong'er didn't flinch, meeting his gaze openly. She even raised an eyebrow and asked, "What, aren't you going to let me go?"
Ling Yu paused for two seconds before slowly speaking, "It's not ready yet."
"Isn't that even better?" Wang Dong'er's eyes lit up, and her tone became even more excited. "If we go now, we can see it exactly as it was. Once you've cleaned it up, we won't be able to see its original appearance anymore."
As she spoke, she added, her tone still self-assured with a hint of slyness: "Besides, didn't you promise me you'd let me know before you moved? This isn't me prying ahead; it's a legitimate inquiry, perfectly reasonable."
Ling Yu looked at her self-righteous face, said nothing, and just watched her quietly.
Wang Dong'er waited two seconds, but didn't receive a response. The smile on her lips drooped slightly, and her tone became more urgent: "Where is it? Just tell me!"
Ling Yu didn't delay any longer, slowly stood up, and uttered two words: "East Gate".
"East Gate? That's perfect!" Wang Dong'er's eyes instantly curved into crescents as she followed him to his side, saying as they walked out, "I heard there's a new barbecue stall that opened near the East Gate, and it's really good. Let's go try it."
Ling Yu didn't respond to her words, but secretly grumbled to himself.
That's not a barbecue stall at all, it's clearly a lousy grilled fish stall, and it doesn't even taste as good as the fish he grills himself.
As soon as the two stepped out of the teaching building, they saw a purple figure standing under the sycamore tree in front of them.
The person had dazzling long blonde hair and wore a purple school uniform skirt. They stood there with their hands behind their backs, their toes lightly tapping the ground, looking both playful and quiet.
Upon hearing footsteps, the person immediately looked up. After recognizing Ling Yu, a gentle smile instantly appeared on their face, and they softly called out, "Doctor Xiao Yu."
But the next second, she saw Wang Dong'er beside Ling Yu, her smile froze slightly, she was clearly stunned for a moment, and subconsciously called out again, "Wang Dong?"
Wang Dong'er was also stunned, stopping in her tracks to look at her, her tone tinged with surprise: "Jiang Nannan? What are you doing here?"
Jiang Nannan quickly stepped forward, a smile returning to her face, and explained, "Sister Lexuan asked me to find Doctor Xiaoyu. She said we need to go to the inner courtyard together this afternoon to take care of something."
Wang Dong'er raised an eyebrow, turned her head to look at Ling Yu, and asked with a hint of doubt, "Are you going to the inner courtyard?"
Ling Yu nodded slightly, without offering any further explanation.
Wang Dong'er paused for two seconds, her smile fading slightly, before asking again, "What about the clinic? Didn't we agree to go see the clinic now?"
Jiang Nannan, who was listening nearby, immediately understood the two's purpose. She couldn't help but smile and said, "So you're going to see the clinic? How about this, we go to the inner courtyard first. Le Xuan's matter shouldn't take too long. After we're done, we can go to the clinic together, okay?"
Wang Dong'er glanced at Jiang Nannan, but didn't immediately agree. Instead, she turned her gaze to Ling Yu, her tone somewhat questioning: "What do you say?"
Ling Yu's gaze swept over the two faces, and after a moment of silence, he slowly spoke: "...Let's go."
After saying that, he turned around and walked straight toward the gate of the outer courtyard.
Sister Lexuan invited me many times, so I should at least go and take a look.
Wang Dong'er and Jiang Nannan exchanged a glance, said nothing more, and then followed one on the left and one on the right. The three figures gradually disappeared into the light and shadow under the sycamore tree.
