Containing monsters? Call me 749 the God of Slaughter!

Chapter 3 Ability Test, Join Bureau 749

"Over here."

The female team member led him through the hall and into a corridor, stopping in front of a door that read "Testing Room".

The door opened, revealing another pure white room.

There is a chair in the middle, surrounded by various instruments.

"Sit down," said a middle-aged man in a white coat.

He was wearing glasses and holding a notepad.

Li Haotian sat down.

The female team member unlocked his handcuffs and stood by the door.

"Name?"

"Li Haotian".

"age?"

"22".

"Describe in detail what happened tonight."

Li Haotian began to recount the events from the discovery of Wang Hao's body to the appearance of the monster, and then to killing it with salt.

Of course, he concealed the part about the system, only saying that he "suddenly realized the thing's weakness."

The man in the white coat took notes, occasionally asking a few detailed questions.

Afterwards, he gestured for Li Haotian to stand on a circular platform.

"Relax, it's just a basic scan."

A beam of blue light swept over Li Haotian's entire body from top to bottom.

Various readings appeared on the screens surrounding the platform: heart rate, blood pressure, brain waves, energy radiation levels...

The man in the white coat stared at the data, his eyes flickering slightly.

"The anomalous energy readings are faint, but they are definitely present."

He looked at the female team member by the door: "Notify Director Chu that there is a new Awakened One."

The female team member nodded, pressed her earpiece, and reported in a low voice.

The man in the white coat turned to Li Haotian: "Do you know what an Awakened One is?"

Li Haotian shook his head.

"Simply put, the probability of an ordinary person being able to sense, touch, or even fight against 'abnormalities' is less than one in a million."

The man pushed up his glasses: "You're both lucky and unlucky."

"Fortunately, you survived."

Unfortunately, once you've seen a glimpse of the real world, there's no going back.

The door to the testing room was suddenly pushed open.

A man around fifty years old walked in.

He was tall and wore a dark blue uniform with three silver stripes on his epaulets.

The man had a scar on his face, extending from his brow bone to the corner of his mouth, which gave him an imposing and dignified appearance.

"Director Chu." The man in the white coat and the female team member stood at attention simultaneously.

The man waved his hand, walked up to Li Haotian, and looked him up and down.

Those eyes were as sharp as an eagle's.

"Using salt to kill a drowning corpse—a good on-the-spot reaction."

Director Chu spoke, his voice low and deep: "But do you know why your roommate died?"

Li Haotian shook his head.

"Because the energy fluctuations within your body attracted it."

Director Chu's words were like a bucket of cold water: "Abnormal creatures are very sensitive to the aura of awakened beings; Wang Hao was merely affected."

"What that thing is really looking for is you."

Li Haotian felt a chill run through his body.

"I'm not blaming you; the awakening was beyond your control."

Director Chu turned to look at the data on the screen: "But you need to understand that starting tonight, your life will be different."

"Now you have two choices."

"First, we'll erase your memory of tonight and send you back, but if you encounter anything unusual again, you probably won't be so lucky."

"Second, join Bureau 749 and learn how to deal with them."

"Erase memories...how do I erase them?"

"Some special methods have a 95% success rate."

"But there are side effects, such as short-term memory loss, headaches, and cognitive impairment."

Director Chu said casually, "We generally do not recommend erasing the memories of people who have awakened superpowers."

The room was silent for a few seconds.

Li Haotian recalled the monster crawling out of the mirror, and Wang Hao's pale face.

If I go back, if I encounter that thing again...

Li Haotian took a deep breath and said in a deep voice, "I'll join."

Director Chu nodded, seemingly having anticipated this answer: "A wise choice."

"But before that, you have to pass the test."

He gestured to the man in the white coat to operate the equipment.

Six metal pillars rose up around the platform, their tops beginning to glow.

"What kind of test is this?"

"Stress test".

Director Chu retreated to the doorway: "Let's see how you react in the simulated abnormal environment."

"Don't worry, there's generally no danger to your life."

As soon as he finished speaking, the metal pillar shone brightly.

Li Haotian's vision went white as the surrounding testing rooms disappeared, replaced by a dark and damp sewer.

The sewage was ankle-deep and reeked of a foul stench, with rustling sounds coming from afar.

[Host detected entering simulation environment]

[Mission: Find the exit within 10 minutes]

[WARNING: Simulated anomalous organisms exist in the environment]

A system notification sounded in my mind.

Li Haotian was stunned. The system could even detect this?

He forced himself to calm down and observed his surroundings.

The sewer is circular, about three meters in diameter, and extends into the darkness at both ends.

Sticky moss adhered to the wall.

The sound came from ahead, getting closer and closer.

Li Haotian forcibly controlled his fluctuating emotions and began to move forward.

The sewage beneath our feet grew deeper and deeper, gradually rising to our thighs and waist.

Sudden.

Li Haotian saw something crawl around the corner ahead.

He tiptoed, pressed himself against the wall, and peered over the shoulder.

A giant "hand" made of sewage and garbage was seen groping around in the passage, each finger as thick as an adult's arm.

It had no eyes, but it seemed to be able to sense the vibrations and was "looking" in his direction.

Li Haotian's eyelids twitched, and he focused his attention.

Weakness scanning is triggered automatically.

[Simulated Anomaly: Dirty Hands]

[Weakness: The core is located at the wrist; breaking it will cause it to disintegrate]

He looked at the thing's wrist and sure enough, there was a thicker, black substance wriggling there.

With a firm resolve, Li Haotian began searching for weapons.

He reached out to the wall next to him and pried off a loose brick.

I weighed it in my hand; it wasn't light, but it was just right.

Just then, Dirty Hands spotted him and grabbed at him!

Li Haotian dodged to the side, splashing dirty water everywhere.

He circled around to the side, aimed at the black core, and forcefully hurled the bricks at it!

The brick struck the core, and the filthy hand froze completely.

Then it begins to disintegrate, turning back into ordinary sewage.

[Simulation anomaly has been cleared]

[Experience points +10]

Li Haotian breathed a sigh of relief and continued forward.

On his journey thereafter, he encountered two more similar simulated monsters, and used weakness scanning to find their core and defeat them both times.

Seven minutes later, he saw a light ahead.

It is an export.

He quickened his pace, walked out of the sewer, and found himself back in the testing room.

The light from the metal pillar is fading.

Director Chu looked at the tablet in his hand, which displayed various data about Li Haotian in the simulation environment.

"Rating: A-"

Director Chu looked up, a hint of appreciation flashing in his eyes: "This is a very good result for the first test."

He handed the tablet to the man in the white coat and instructed, "Process his onboarding paperwork. He'll be temporarily assigned as a trainee investigator and placed under the Third Action Team of the Jiangcheng Branch."

"Lin Yu, show him around the area."

The female team member by the door nodded gently: "Yes, Director Chu."

Director Chu walked to the door and then looked back at Li Haotian.

A faint smile curved his lips: "Li Haotian, welcome to the real world."
