Chapter 417 Life (The End)

Two hours later, Wu Qiong stood in front of a security door.

This is the home that his memory has long since become blurred.

Taking a deep breath, Wu Qiong took out his key and opened the door.

What comes into view is a living room that is both unfamiliar and somewhat familiar.

"Son's back?" Mom's voice came from the kitchen. "Your dad'll be home from get off work soon too. You said you wanted to eat ribs yesterday, so we'll have those today. I'll also make Mapo Tofu."

Wu Qiong's eyes welled up with tears, and he murmured, "Mom, I'm back."

Twenty years have passed like a single day, yet it feels like a lifetime ago.

A short while later, the door opened, and Wu Qiong's father came in, glanced at Wu Qiong, said "You're back," and went straight to his bedroom to change his clothes.

"Come and serve the rice!" Mom called to Wu Qiong to get the rice.

Ten minutes later, the three of them sat down at the small table in the living room and began to eat.

"Wu Qiong, have a couple of drinks." Dad opened a bottle of beer and poured it for Wu Qiong.

Wu Qiong nodded and silently watched him fill the glass. Then the two clinked glasses and drank it all in one gulp.

The father and son put down their wine glasses and remained silent.

My mom forced a smile: "Don't look so sad, let's eat."

Wu Qiong ate his meal in silence, and as he ate, his eyes began to well up with tears.

It wasn't just because he hadn't eaten his mother's slightly salty dishes for twenty years, but also because of his longing for Xiaobai and the others.

His father glanced at him, sighed, and silently lit a cigarette: "I know today is the anniversary of Xiao Yan's death, but it's been several years. Don't think about it anymore."

Wu Qiong looked up: "Anniversary of death?"

He also found it strange that his sister, whom he had promised to see, was gone. It turned out she had passed away several years ago.

Dad took a deep drag on his cigarette: "We've been telling everyone that your sister died of a heart attack."

She did have a heart condition, but that wasn't the cause of her death.

Wu Qiong raised an eyebrow: "What's the reason?"

Although I don't know this sister at all, she is indeed my sister, and I have an obligation to resolve this matter.

"Actually, your sister died from a fall." Dad exhaled a puff of smoke. "Although we can't find any evidence, I don't think it was suicide."

Wu Qiong narrowed his eyes: "Dad, do you have any suspects?"

Wu Qiong is a ruthless killer who doesn't blink an eye. If there's a suspect, he'll kill them first.

As for evidence! As the "Sword Master" who beheaded 80,000 cavalrymen with a single sword strike, he never needs evidence to kill.

"I've had plenty of people in my life, your dad offended quite a few back then." The old man sighed. "It's time to tell you the truth."

He exchanged a glance with Wu Qiong's mother and said leisurely, "Actually, your dad isn't an ordinary person. I'm a civil servant in the 'Emergency Response Department for Abnormal Events'."

Wu Qiong: "Huh?"

"Emergency Response Department for Abnormal Events"? What the hell is that?

"I know you can't accept it right away," Dad sighed. "But our department is about to be reorganized, so I'm thinking of having you resign and take the exam to try it out."

He paused for a moment: "After all, making games isn't as good as having a stable job."

Wu Qiong: "."

He shook his head: "Dad, I want to go back to my hometown for a visit."

The old man frowned: "Why do you suddenly want to go back to your hometown?"

"I have a girl I like. Her family is from Luocheng, our hometown. I want to go back and visit her." Wu Qiong looked dejected.

The old man paused for a moment, then smiled: "Alright, go back now, it'll be good for you to clear your head."

"Um."

Three days later, Wu Qiong, who had already resigned, returned to Luocheng.

Inside the Longnan residential area, he arrived at the address on Xiaobai's ID card that he remembered.

He took a deep breath and knocked on the door.

Soon, an elderly man with a full head of white hair opened the door.

He looked Wu Qiong up and down for a moment, then asked in confusion, "Who are you?"

"Hello Grandpa Su, I'm Xiao Qiong, don't you remember me?" Wu Qiong said with a smile.

Regardless of whether Xiaobai can come back or not, he is still my grandfather, so of course I should leave a good impression on him.

The old man suddenly realized: "So it's Master Cui's poor son. You haven't been back for several years."

Have you had lunch yet?

"I just got back." Wu Qiong smiled. "Grandpa Su, I don't know..."

He gritted his teeth and asked, "Do you have a granddaughter named Su Mubai?"

"Yes, she is." Old Su narrowed his eyes, suspiciously asking, "But she lives abroad with my son and daughter-in-law. How did you know, Xiao Qiong?"

Knowing that his granddaughter was not even twenty years old, could this kid be eyeing his own beautiful young lady?

"You're overthinking it. I met her when I was traveling abroad," Wu Qiong said with a gentle smile. "We agreed to meet again when we got back, Grandpa Su, you have to believe me."

Grandpa Su remained calm. "Young man, in which country have you seen my granddaughter?"

He absolutely must not reveal that his son will bring his wife and daughter back to visit him later.

Wu Qiong: "."

Are you suggesting I've seen your granddaughter in the Great Zhou Dynasty?

Grandpa Su smiled, a smile that held a deeper meaning: "She'll be alright in a few years, but she's too young now."

This young man is Master Cui's grandson, so his character should be reliable. It's just that his own granddaughter is still young; otherwise, he would be happy to see the two of them get together.

As for why he felt this kid liked his granddaughter, he hadn't lived these past few decades for nothing; the kid's expression changed when he mentioned his granddaughter.

Wu Qiong thanked him and went back dejectedly.

He plans to stay at his grandmother's house permanently because he said when he was blown back twenty years ago that he would wait for them here.

And so, life returned to normal. Wu Qiong spent his days fishing, chatting with his parents and grandmother, and occasionally taking a stroll around.

But most of the time he would sit alone by the Luo River, lost in thought.

Several months passed, and Wu Qiong became increasingly numb, sometimes even ignoring his parents' calls.

On that very day, the family sat down for a meal, and his parents continued to nag him about going on blind dates, while he remained silent.

A knock came at the door.

Wu Qiong didn't react at all, so his mother had no choice but to get up and open the door.

When the door opened, a smiling young woman stood outside. She took off her sunglasses and greeted her, "Hello, Auntie. Is Wu Qiong here? I'm his girlfriend."

Wu Qiong suddenly turned around and saw Li Jianshi standing gracefully at his door with her hands behind her back.

"Shishi'er?!"

Mom beamed with joy: "Come in, come in!"

She turned around and complained to Wu Qiong, "Why are you hiding your girlfriend now that you've found one?"

"Uh, I..." Wu Qiong was in a daze and didn't know what to do.

Before he could even stand up and speak, a slender hand reached out from behind Li Jianshi and pushed her back into the house: "Auntie, she's not Aqiong's girlfriend, I am."

This is Bai Xuanji.

Wu Qiong's eyes widened, he took a few steps forward, and then he saw it.

Behind the two, Xiao Bai, dressed in black, leaned against the wall with his arms crossed.

A little further away, Ye Yuxi and Sheng Yeyun were holding hands, with Bu Yurou and Ximen Xue standing beside them.

Meanwhile, Zhang Yu, still half asleep, had his head resting on Xiao Bai's shoulder and was fast asleep.

Dad: "."

Mom: "."

The old man slowly leaned closer to Wu Qiong and said cautiously, "Son, why don't you turn yourself in?"

Wu Qiong: "."
