Yu-Gi-Oh!: Worldwide Mix, the Ultimate Necromancer Duel
Chapter 15. Challenging the Dojo! Facing the Dojo's Senior Brother?
The martial arts disciple was stunned upon hearing this, his mouth agape as if he had heard something utterly unbelievable.
"Huh...what does that mean?"
He blinked, trying to understand You Chen's words, "You want to see our sect leader? Don't tell me you want to challenge our master?"
You Chen blinked, his expression matter-of-fact: "Isn't it obvious?"
"Holy crap—" the disciple blurted out, then realized his mistake and quickly covered his mouth, but the disbelief in his eyes remained undiminished.
How desperate could someone be?
But on second thought, this is actually better—this way, if they lose, they will accept defeat willingly, and it also serves as publicity for the dojo, showing that a master is in charge.
"Alright, alright," the disciple suppressed his laughter and said in a serious tone, "However, an important guest has come to the dojo today, and Master is discussing important matters in the reception room on the second floor, so he may not be available for the time being."
He changed the subject, pointing to a tall young man instructing students not far away: "But don't worry, our senior brother Hai Zhi is here today. Challenging him will have the same effect!"
You Chen looked in the direction he pointed. The young man was about twenty-five or twenty-six years old, with a tall and straight figure. He wore a dark blue Taoist robe meticulously, with a conspicuous badge of the eldest disciple embroidered on his chest.
He had just finished giving instructions and was sipping his tea when he heard this. He glanced at me with a scrutinizing look in his eyes.
You Chen withdrew his gaze and shook his head: "How can they be the same? Senior Brother's prize money is only five thousand, which isn't worth much."
"cough--!"
Not far away, Hai Zhigang nearly spat out the tea he was just drinking. He put down his teacup, his lips twitching slightly—this kid, he actually went for it?
He walked slowly and steadily, the hem of his martial arts uniform swaying gently with his movements.
When Hai Zhi reached You Chen, a forced smile appeared on his face.
"It's alright." Hai Zhi's voice was deep, with a hint of amusement. "As long as you win, it'll be 20,000."
He leaned down slightly to meet You Chen's gaze: "I am Hai Zhi, the chief disciple of Hai Sheng Martial Arts Academy."
He paused, his tone hardening, "Brother, your courage is commendable, but I advise you—know your limits. Are you sure you really want to challenge me?"
When You Chen heard that it would be calculated at 20,000, his eyes lit up immediately.
"That's more like it." He chuckled, his tone relaxed. "As for advice, there's no need. Five hundred for twenty thousand, isn't that a pretty good deal?"
He turned to the deck-building area and said leisurely, "Let's start picking cards."
Hai Zhi narrowed his eyes, remained silent for two seconds, and then suddenly let out a low laugh.
"Alright."
The deck-building area is divided into two separate spaces by a semi-transparent partition.
You Chen and Hai Zhi each entered to one side, where neatly arranged card racks displayed hundreds of cards categorized by type.
Youchen had seen it before, and the decks on both sides were actually the same.
According to the rules, both players have 15 minutes to construct a 40-card main deck from a designated card pool.
You Chen scanned the card rack, his fingers quickly tracing the cards one by one. His movements were fluid and decisive, with almost no hesitation.
On the other side of the partition, Haizhi's card selection speed was equally fast.
But his gaze would occasionally drift to the corner—where a hidden camera was transmitting live footage of Youchen's card selection to the tablet screen in front of him.
This is one of the lesser-known tricks of the Sea Life Dojo. By monitoring the challenger's card selection process, the resident disciple can anticipate the opponent's tactical thinking in advance, and thus make targeted adjustments when constructing the deck.
This time, however, Hai Zhi stared at the screen, his brows furrowing deeper and deeper.
"What kind of random choice is this?"
The cards that You Chen selected looked disorganized.
"He really is a hothead." Hai Zhi chuckled and finally decided to go his own way.
He was confident that, faced with an absolute disparity in strength, any fancy construction would be futile.
……
The second floor houses an elegant tea room.
The scent of sandalwood wafted gently in the air, and an exquisite set of purple clay teaware sat on the rosewood tea table. The academy's master—a sprightly old man with gray hair—was personally pouring tea for the young man opposite him.
"Young Feng, you've truly deserves credit for making it possible to negotiate a long-term partnership with your club this time." The old man smiled broadly and gently pushed the teacup towards him. "This is just a small token of my appreciation; please accept it."
Sitting opposite him was Chen Feng. He took the envelope from the old man; its thickness was satisfactory—at least fifty thousand. This matchmaking effort had been worthwhile.
"You're too kind, Master. It's just a mutually beneficial arrangement." Chen Feng picked up his teacup and took a small sip.
His gaze casually swept towards the dueling arena downstairs, and his previously languid gaze suddenly froze.
"puff--!"
I almost spat out my tea.
Chen Feng abruptly slammed down his teacup, leaning forward until he was almost pressed against the glass railing. His eyes widened as he stared intently at the familiar figure downstairs choosing a card.
"Holy crap? It's him?!"
The old man was startled by this sudden reaction: "What's wrong? Not enough money? This is already the highest price I can offer. Business at the dojo hasn't been great lately, I can't offer any more..."
Chen Feng then came to his senses and coughed twice to cover up his embarrassment: "It's nothing, I have enough money."
He paused, his gaze turning complicated as he looked downstairs, and murmured, "But Master, you might lose even more later."
Old man: ???
He didn't understand what Chen Feng meant at all. Following Chen Feng's gaze, he saw that the ordinary dueling arena downstairs was ready, and a challenger who looked quite young was walking towards one side of the arena.
Chen Feng did not answer, but smiled meaningfully and picked up his teacup again.
This is going to be interesting.
……
On the dueling field, You Chen and Hai Zhi were already in position.
Seven or eight students and challengers gathered around to watch the spectacle.
A gym battle costs 4000 health points.
Speed is key!
This is a huge advantage for the dojo, because it makes surprise attacks very useful.
Surprise attacks, of course, have a greater advantage for those familiar with the dojo.
The challenger is at a complete disadvantage.
It can be said that with this advantage, they can often win against duelists of higher star ratings than themselves.
Hai Zhi stood at the other end of the field, arms crossed, looking calm and composed.
As the top disciple of the dojo, he had experienced hundreds of instructional battles and was a four-star duelist with a win rate exceeding 90%. He had plenty of confidence when facing an unknown young challenger.
The referee—the disciple who had led the way earlier—stood in the center of the arena and announced loudly:
"The Marine Dojo Challenge begins now!"
"Challenger You Chen will face off against our top disciple, Hai Zhi!"
"duel--"
You Chen took a deep breath, his eyes instantly turning sharp, a stark contrast to his previous harmless demeanor.
"I've taken the initiative!"
Hai Zhi sensed a different aura, and his body trembled.
How come this guy's aura changed so much all of a sudden?
Once he's in a duel, he seems like a completely different person.
I had a vague sense of foreboding.
