Apocalyptic Hoarding Diary

Chapter 308 A Small Scheme

Who doesn't use the internet these days? We use the internet to sell things, buy things, chat, pay bills, and do everything online.

Without the internet, you can't move an inch in this underground city.

But then I thought, how did people survive hundreds of years ago? They didn't have the internet, surveillance, or backend records.

They talk face-to-face, hand over goods, settle the payment, and leave without anyone knowing who is who or how. That's the safest way.

Xu Xiaoyan turned her gaze toward the parking lot.

Her pickup truck was parked there, an ordinary model. There are quite a few people in Zone B who drive this kind of truck, delivering food, goods, and materials. It's everywhere. Who would notice an ordinary pickup truck?

She could drive out, find a suitable area, and slowly wander around, observing the people who came to buy things while selling snacks.

By observing their clothing, their speech, and their actions, you can gradually figure out who are potential customers, who are ordinary passersby, and who are suspicious individuals.

If you think it's reliable, then ship a little more stock.

If you're not comfortable with that, just give a few perfunctory replies and drive away.

Release a little at a time.

Change a little at a time.

Little by little, it adds up; a steady stream eventually flows.

Xu Xiaoyan knew this method was slow, and that with all this effort, it might take several months to sell all the inventory she had. But she also knew that in this place, speed often meant risk.

Are those who sell large quantities of goods at once on black market websites ultimately safe?

Let it be slow. As long as we can gradually convert tobacco, alcohol, and health supplements into points or physical goods, and gradually turn the numbers on the books into hard currency in our hands, that's fine.

Xu Xiaoyan turned her phone screen back on and glanced at the time—11:17. There was still half a day before the parking lot night market opened that evening, so she could go and browse the markets in other districts first.

Each district in the dungeon has its own market. She has been to the East District, but hasn't explored the other districts much yet.

I'll take advantage of this time to drive out and see what other markets are like, and maybe buy some snacks while I'm at it.

After Xu Xiaoyan finished dressing, she stood in front of the mirror and checked herself one last time.

Wearing a dark gray coat, ordinary jeans, her hair tied in a low ponytail, and no makeup, she was the kind of person who would blend into a crowd. She nodded at herself in the mirror, then turned and picked up her car keys.

She'd heard that the market in the South District was the largest and had the most complete selection of goods, so she planned to take this opportunity to check it out.

She went down to the first floor, through the passageway, into the parking lot, walked around the car to check the tires and lights, and then opened the car door and got in.

Shift into gear, release the brake, and slowly drive towards the exit.

The exit railing remained motionless, and a message appeared on the display screen: "Monthly subscription user successfully identified, but you have an outstanding fee. Please pay it first."

Xu Xiaoyan was stunned for a moment.

显示屏上跳出一个收款界面:昨晚22:17至今早11:32,停车时长13小时15分钟,按收费标準,共计1.4积分。

She paid her points as instructed, and then the barrier slowly rose. She stepped on the gas and drove out of the parking lot.

Xu Xiaoyan opened the navigation and entered "South District Market". A route popped up on the screen, from her starting point to the South District Market, the whole journey would take about 25 minutes.

She followed the navigation, observing the street scenes on both sides as she drove.

She was already very familiar with this part of the East District. After driving for about fifteen minutes, the navigation indicated that she was entering the South District.

She had just slowed down to make a turn when she suddenly heard a commotion.

It wasn't just ordinary talking; it was the sound of gongs and drums, trumpets, shouts, and the clamor of a crowd.

Xu Xiaoyan quickly leaned out of the car window to look.

At the intersection ahead, about two hundred meters away, a large crowd of people, at least a hundred, had gathered, crowding the open space by the roadside.

Several huge red balloons floated above the crowd, with banners hanging below them. The words on the banners were too far away to read clearly.

But you could see a lot of people dressed in red standing on the periphery of the crowd, holding gongs and drums, beating them loudly.

Several people were also holding megaphones, banging on them and shouting, their voices rising in waves: "Future Robotics Company Grand Opening Special!"

All equipment is available for sale or rent!

"You won't lose out, you won't be cheated!"

"This is a golden opportunity, don't miss it!"

Xu Xiaoyan stepped on the brakes and stopped the car on the side of the road.

Future Robotics Company? She'd never heard of that name. Robots for sale in the dungeon? She'd been here so long and had never seen one.

The market in the East District sells all sorts of things, but I've never seen a robot for sale. These things are too high-tech; most people can't afford them and don't need them.

But since they can afford to open a store and dare to hold a grand opening ceremony in such a place, they must have something special about them.

She hesitated for two seconds, looked at the crowd in front of her, and then at the remaining distance on the navigation.

We'll be at the South Market in ten minutes.

But—the robot.

Her mind raced: What if there's something useful? What if there's something that can be put to use? What if there's something that can help her have a better life in the future?

Go take a look; it will only take half an hour at most.

Following the navigation instructions, she turned on her turn signal and turned into the nearest side road.

At the end of the fork in the road was a small civilian parking lot with a dozen or so cars parked inside. She found an empty space, parked, turned off the engine, removed the key, and got out of the car.

Then she practically ran in that direction.

The closer you get, the louder the sound becomes; the gongs and drums make your ears ring, and shouts come one after another, blending into a cacophony of noise from the crowd.

When she reached the outer edge of the crowd, she realized that the scene was much larger than she had imagined.

There were at least two or three hundred people surrounding them, three or four layers deep.

There were elderly people and young people, men and women, some carrying children, some pushing strollers, and a few who were obviously just passing by, attracted by the excitement, and craning their necks to look inside.

In the very center of the crowd, there was a temporary stage. The stage was not large, only a dozen square meters, but it was decorated in a very eye-catching way.

A bright red backdrop with the words "Future Robotics Company" in large gold letters, and a smaller line below that reads "Let technology serve life."

On either side of the stage stood a giant inflatable robot, over two meters tall, with round heads and a somewhat cartoonish design, but it looked quite cute.

There were seven or eight people standing on the stage, all wearing the same red work uniforms and name tags pinned to their chests.

The person at the very front was holding a microphone and loudly introducing something, but she couldn't hear him because the sound of gongs and drums drowned him out.

Several long tables were set up next to the stage, with various items on them, some covered with red cloth and others left exposed.
