Chapter 69 One who stays near vermilion gets stained red

February 5, 1998 (Hunter Calendar)

Su Wu led Maro to the seventeenth casino.

A small underground casino, yet the games seem far more brutal.

Everything you own can become a stake on the gambling table, including your life.

The surroundings were completely dark, with only a few scattered tables and chairs, each with a lamp hanging on it for illumination.

A few lights cannot illuminate the entire space, but they are enough to show the situation on the table.

Many people were standing, and some even stood on chairs to observe the situation from above.

The customers were all very ordinary guys who, after a hard day's work, came to this lowest-class place with their meager wages to indulge in the cheap, free drinks, and then, flushed and red-faced, tossed out their banknotes in the lingering smell of evaporating alcohol.

Whether you win or lose, there are plenty of opinions.

The surrounding congratulations made the winner even more excited, while the sighs made the loser feel deeply sorry.

But no matter what, their final choice was the same—to try again.

We'll definitely win the next one.

Su Wu, wearing a black sleeveless hooded sweatshirt and a hat, mingled among the crowd of onlookers but still couldn't find her target.

"Seriously... Chad is here..." Su Wu sighed.

Two men nearby heard his complaint and instinctively turned to look.

Seeing that it was a figure who was not very tall and rather thin, with a hat that obscured his face from the shadows, he subconsciously burst out laughing.

"You're looking for Chad? What? You want to compete with him too?"

"Another one who came to see Chad after hearing the rumors."

"That's really overestimating themselves."

"This kid's pretty confident..."

The two laughing men seemed to know Chad very well, as if they had seen many people like Su Wu who wanted to find him. Their teasing words revealed a sense of familiarity and anticipation for a good show.

"How dare you!" A shout, seemingly unable to tolerate it any longer, rang out.

"Stop, Maro." A cold, deep voice followed.

The time between their words was less than a second.

A cold, sharp object was pressed against the necks of the two men, and a line of blood appeared on their necks. The blood droplets were absorbed by the icy blade that emitted a chilling aura.

The frost-colored blade was also stained with a faint blood color.

The blond figure had a gloomy expression, and his emerald green eyes coldly scrutinized these people.

I can't stand this group's disrespectful attitude towards adults.

He was originally going to kill the other two people, but the adults stopped him...

"We finally got a lead, but if you kill them, we'll be kicked out again," Su Wu said slowly, yawning.

They have been blacklisted by sixteen casinos in a row, for only two reasons.

Su Wu would occasionally participate, but she won too much and was blocked.

Maro occasionally acts impulsively, resulting in him killing someone and being blocked.

Of course, everyone used a fairly polite approach, gently and courteously reminding them to leave.

Marlowe seems to be gradually moving from one extreme to another...

From initially being timid and submissive to now being ready to kill at the slightest disagreement...

Can being around someone really change someone so quickly?

I'm clearly a reasonable person.

Su Wu stroked her chin, refusing to admit that Maro had become the way he was because he had subconsciously learned his ways of doing things.

"Yes." Maro sheathed his ice blade and stood silently to the side.

The two men seemed not to have reacted yet, and they raised their hands to touch their necks in a daze. After feeling a stinging pain, their faces turned to fear.

"Come on, now tell me about Chad that you've been talking about." A figure wearing a hoodie, revealing two arms that were still dazzlingly white in the dark and covered in strange tattoos, asked casually.

If you don't do as the other party says...

will die.

My animalistic instincts are screaming warnings.

"...Chad is...someone who comes here to play occasionally. He has terrible luck and always loses a lot of money, but he's very strong. It's said that when he runs out of money, he goes to underground boxing rings to make money..." The man swallowed hard and stammered as he described the situation.

"When does he usually come here?" Su Wu asked again.

The noisy environment caused people around to subconsciously ignore this small, quiet area.

"...I don't know either...his coming is unpredictable..."

"Really, we don't know him at all! Not at all!"

The two men, who had previously acted as if they were quite familiar with Chad, were now eager to distance themselves from him.

"I see..." The boy's voice trailed off, as if he was disappointed at not getting the result.

"Alright then," the boy sighed, sounding deflated.

He then left the casino with another person.

Seeing the two dangerous individuals leave, the two remaining people breathed a sigh of relief.

……

Su Wu did not leave as the two had expected, but instead stood with Maro in a corner outside the casino waiting.

Although Maro didn't understand, he didn't ask any questions.

Half an hour later, a man emerged from the casino furtively, looking around as he walked in the shadows.

After winding and turning for a long time, we finally arrived at our destination.

He stood in front of an unremarkable little house and knocked on the wooden door as if giving a coded signal.

The door was opened quickly.

A tall man appeared behind the door.

"What is it?" The man looked menacing, with scars on his face and large areas of burns on his exposed skin.

"Someone was looking for you over there just now..." the furtive figure whispered.

"He specifically asked for Chad..."

"They were two very dangerous guys. One of them put a knife right to my neck..." The informant looked up and showed the man the bloodstains on his neck, to warn him of the danger he was in.

"What do they look like?" Chad asked.

"One looks young, about this tall, with black tattoos, and the other has blond hair..." the informant gestured as he spoke.

"It's those two again..." Chad seemed to have heard of the two before.

He has his own people in many underground banks and casinos who will tip him off when necessary.

This is how he evaded many hunters and police who came for the bounty.

Those two strange guys made no attempt to hide their true intentions from the beginning, brazenly visiting several venues just to find him. This wasn't the first time he'd heard about this from others.

"Okay, you can go back now. Don't come looking for me anytime soon." He took out his wallet, pulled out a wad of bills, and stuffed them into the other person's hand.

"Thanks, Chad, you're as generous as ever." The man took the money and was so happy that the wound on his neck didn't even hurt anymore. He immediately chose to return the way he came.

What do gamblers do when they get new money? They go back to the casino and try their luck again, of course.
