Chapter 58, Next Stage
In a short period of time, foreign espionage activities within the Great Xia territory surged.
Numerous intelligence agents, acting on orders from various factions, attempted to infiltrate the construction area of Xinyuan City to uncover the secrets of intelligent modules, energy sources, and even Lin Dao himself.
However, they encountered an unexpected "defense line".
After Salamence's initial communication and the continued goodwill shown by Forest Road, the Pokémon around Newland City have come to regard this area as a "prototype of home" that needs to be maintained together.
Wild Pokémon displayed remarkable alertness and territorial awareness towards strangers who suddenly appeared in their territory, acting suspiciously and whose aura was completely different from that of the builders.
A beedrill spotted a spy squad attempting to cross the forest at night. Instead of attacking directly, it flew to a temporary police station outside the construction zone and rhythmically tapped the windowpane with its stinger to attract the on-duty police officer. Then it flew back to lead the way.
A group of pangolins and gophers "announce" to the patrolling rumblebees by creating slight, regular vibrations underground.
The rumbler slowly rolled to its destination, blocking the way. No matter how the other party tried to go around it or communicate, it wouldn't budge until the police arrived.
The most outrageous incident involved several spies attempting to infiltrate from the direction of the snow-capped mountains. After being thoroughly exhausted by a group of Slugs, their limbs were frozen and they were left at the entrance of the police station. The Slugs even imitated humans, solemnly "saluting" (though not very properly), before running away laughing.
The officers, seeing the spies suffering from frostbite, quickly called for medical personnel to treat them, but several still required amputations of varying degrees.
The head of the security department stationed on the outskirts of New Edge City is both troubled and delighted by the spies he receives almost daily, either "brought in" or "reported" by Pokémon.
The headaches are the security pressures and the troubles of international negotiations, as well as the Pokémon's occasional lack of consideration for the situation; the pleasant surprises are the Pokémon's willingness to cooperate.
Upon learning of the situation, Li Qiang personally instructed: "Since the Pokémon are so alert, why not take advantage of the situation?"
The security forces surrounding Newland City have undergone a special reorganization: all deployed officers must pass a "Pokémon affinity test"; they must carry special energy cubes while on duty; and their daily training includes collaborative drills with local Pokémon.
More importantly, officers received a special incentive: if they gained the approval of Pokémon and established a partnership, the department would provide specialized training resources and they could apply to receive guidance from the Forestry Department.
This policy had an immediate effect.
Young police officer Chen Sanshi rescued a lost acorn, successfully gaining the favor of the cunning tengu and attracting the acorn's attention.
This case quickly spread internally, inspiring more police officers to proactively learn about and approach Pokémon.
In just one month, with the collaboration of builders, intelligent modules, and Pokémon, Newland City completed its main framework construction. The outline of a city that is futuristic and harmoniously integrated with nature is clearly displayed at the foot of the snow-capped mountains.
The city's planning concept is refreshing:
The northern area, close to snow-capped mountains and forests, is designed as an "ecological integration zone" with low building density, parks, woodlands and winding walking paths, and mostly eco-friendly houses with courtyards or terraces.
This area is deliberately planted with a large number of common trees and fruit trees, serving both as a landscape feature and an important research and experimental field for the Agricultural Bureau.
The agricultural bureau was the first to set up camp here, and the fruit trees they cultivated—oranges, peaches, and cherries—were planted in rows.
They found that in areas with frequent Pokémon activity and abundant natural energy, the growth rate and fruit quality of these special fruit trees were significantly improved.
"This is not just greening," wrote Zhang Wei, a researcher at the Agricultural Bureau, in her notes. "It's an edible landscape, a food source shared by humans and Pokémon."
The West District is a business and administrative center, with towering buildings and modern lines. It is a future hub for urban management, commerce and finance, corporate headquarters, and various service institutions.
The building uses a large number of new materials to ensure its sturdiness while also taking into account the needs of possible large-scale Pokémon events.
All buildings are equipped with "Pokémon passageways," with ventilation ducts enlarged to allow small Pokémon to pass through, and rest platforms and drinking fountains on the exterior walls.
The South Zone is for future trainers.
Centered around a massive central shopping mall, the area is surrounded by several standardized battlegrounds of varying sizes, a distinctive blue-roofed, white-walled "Pokémon Center" (which also provides medical, rest, and basic supplies services), as well as facilities such as trainer skill assessment points and mission bulletin boards.
This is the core area where trainers will communicate, compete, and accept missions in the future.
The East District is a residential area with highly flexible housing designs: it boasts the most diverse architectural styles, ranging from apartments to townhouses, and provides ample space for personalized modifications, allowing future residents to decorate according to their own and their Pokémon's lifestyle.
A large number of vacant plots have been reserved on the edge of the area, leaving ample room for future urban development.
In the heart of the city, three iconic buildings stand out:
The towering silver spire, enveloped by a circular annex, perfectly replicates (and optimizes) the futuristic battle tower design of Larousse City.
The tower houses various battle facilities ranging from beginner to master level, is designed to accommodate 100,000 spectators, and is equipped with a holographic projection system and intelligent repair arena, making it a mecca for future top trainers.
The blue and white spherical building is the headquarters of the "Pokémon Culture Development and Communication Group". Its shape pays homage to the Poké Ball and is full of vitality and creativity.
Finally, the New Edge Technology Building and the still-in-development New Edge Pokémon University were built side by side.
The Science and Technology Building will provide laboratories for national-level projects that come to conduct cutting-edge research using the city's energy sources; the university is part of Great Xia's future plans, aiming to cultivate professionals in fields such as Pokémon research, breeding, medicine, and competitive management.
The city's road system is also unique: main roads are reserved for vehicles, while secondary roads are equipped with ground elevator systems, allowing pedestrians to be smoothly transported by standing in specific areas.
All the roads are embedded with fluorescent guide lines that emit a soft glow at night to guide nocturnal Pokémon.
Top-floor conference room at the headquarters of Pokémon Culture Communication Group.
The atmosphere was both serious and enthusiastic.
At the oval table, Lin Dao sat in the main seat, surrounded by holographic images of representatives from various participating departments: Li Qiang from the Security Department, Zhao Lan from the Response Bureau, Qian Jiahao from the Commerce Department, and relevant officials from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
"...In summary, the infrastructure of Xinyuan City has basically met the needs of the first phase of operation."
After Lin Dao finished his presentation, his gaze swept over the holographic images of everyone present.
"I believe the time is ripe to officially launch the 'Registered Trainer Certification and Training Program'."
"Public enthusiasm is high, society needs a new injection of vitality, and the Pokémon-related industry also needs standardized guidance."
