Chapter 54 New City Site Selection and Abroad Anomalies

This place is far from existing major urban clusters and is located on the edge of a vast basin.

In the distance, a majestic snow-capped mountain shimmers with a holy silver light under the sun; that is one of the famous main peaks of the Min Mountains. On the other side, there is a huge mountain range with undulating terrain and lush vegetation, called the Longmen Mountains, which is known to be home to several Pokémon species.

The site itself is the ruins of a village abandoned due to disaster and early evacuation. Wild grass grows among the broken walls, but you can still vaguely see the layout of the village that was built against the mountains and by the water. A clear river meanders by not far away.

The helicopter landed slowly, kicking up clouds of dust.

Lin Dao stepped off the plane and looked around.

With fresh air, far from industrial noise, open and undulating terrain, abundant water resources, backed by snow-capped mountains and facing a vast basin, it has both natural barriers and room for development.

Several wild Pokémon curiously approached from a distance.

A takin stood erect, observing the uninvited guest. Several cooing pigeons flew overhead, and further away, at the edge of the woods, one could even see the elegant figure of a startled deer.

He Zhong unfolded the map and pointed to the distance.

"Mr. Lin, as you can see, this place is about 100 kilometers from the nearest county town of Dayu and 300 kilometers from Chengdu."

"The existing road infrastructure connecting us to the outside world still exists. With a little repair and upgrading, it can meet the needs of large-scale material transportation during the construction period."

"It has a relatively independent geographical location, which makes it easy to manage, and it can also rely on the existing urban system to obtain initial support."

Lin Dao did not answer immediately. He closed his eyes, grasped the Gene Wedge, and immersed his consciousness into it. An invisible wave emanated from the Gene Wedge, helping Lin Dao to sense whether there was any danger around him.

This is the function that Lin Dao discovered during his research on gene wedges.

After receiving feedback that there was no danger, it was learned that the area has a rich Pokémon ecosystem and a natural environment, making it an ideal testing ground for practicing the concept of "deep coexistence".

He opened his eyes, his gaze firm, and looked at the accompanying experts and officials before finally settling on He Zhong's face:

"This is it."

His tone was calm, yet carried an undeniable determination.

"This ruin will serve as the starting point for our new chapter."

"As for the 'natives' here, those Pokémon living in the snow-capped mountains and ranges," Lin Dao looked towards the distant, misty mountains, "leave it to me. I will work with Salamence to find a way to communicate with them, reach a consensus, and find a win-win solution."

"And the heavy responsibility of building this city from the blueprints onto this land," he turned to the crowd and said solemnly, "is entrusted to you all."

"Let's truly begin here."

"Have you decided on a name yet?" He Zhong asked.

Lin Dao smiled slightly: "Let's call it 'New Fate City'. New fate, new beginning."

That afternoon, the exploration team and the advance engineering team arrived.

When Lin Dao handed the compiled data to the project manager, the senior engineer's eyes widened even more.

"These...these designs...they're absolutely brilliant!" His voice trembled with excitement. "Vertical greening systems, underground transportation networks, Pokémon ecological corridors...this isn't just a city, it's a work of art! No, it's an ecosystem!"

Lin explained, "New Yuan City will not have a 'suburb' in the traditional sense; there will be no clear boundary between the city and nature."

"The buildings themselves will become part of the ecosystem, with roof gardens, wall vegetation, underground water circulation... Pokémon can live freely in the city instead of being confined to a specific area."

Then Lin Dao pulled up the confidential blueprints and said, "This is what you're doing now."

The person in charge looked at the blueprints and was confused about what they were supposed to build, but seeing the confidentiality markings on them, he didn't ask any more questions.

Over the next few days, Lin Dao began to make contact with the local Pokémon.

At the foot of the snow-capped mountain, Lin Dao met the leader of the Ice-type Pokémon, an Abomasnow King that had reached level 58.

Through difficult communication (the Snow King was initially extremely wary of humans), the Salamence, under the command of the Forest Road, easily defeated it, finally making the Snow Mountain King understand that the new city would not destroy their habitat, but would instead protect the Snow Mountain ecosystem.

Deep in the forest, a group of cunning tengu were skeptical of the construction plan.

Lin Dao spent two days feeding them Energy Cubes and promising to help them cultivate more fruit trees before gaining their trust and persuading the other Pokémon in the forest to help him.

The easiest task was probably negotiating with a group of dugongs who were worried that construction would destroy their underground nests.

The forest road has redesigned some of its underground facilities, promising to preserve a complete network of access routes for them.

Furthermore, lured by the energy cubes, he even agreed to help Lin Dao build a city.

......

Every night when I returned to the temporary camp, I was exhausted, but my sense of accomplishment grew day by day.

And through these frequent conversations, Lin Dao was even able to gradually understand what the Pokémon were saying.

Lin Dao thought it might be due to two reasons: firstly, his body was changing, and secondly, the bond he had with his Pokémon.

Based on his understanding of the Pokémon world, trainers often not only understand their own Pokémon's words, but also the words spoken by Pokémon they encounter in the wild when they are awake.

Just as the construction plan for Xinyuan City was basically finalized and construction was about to begin, the international situation suddenly changed.

The United States, which has always taken a hard line against Pokémon, has announced the launch of the "Pokémon Fusion Project".

However, their approach is completely different from that of China. Instead of coexisting on an equal footing, they attempt to control Pokémon through technological means.

When the news arrived, Lin Dao was discussing the details of the ecological corridor with the Xinyuan City design team.

He Zhong hurriedly entered the temporary meeting room, his face grave.

"Mr. Lin, something's happened." He handed the tablet to Lin Dao.

"The United States announced the successful development of the 'Pokémon Control Collar,' claiming that it can ensure the absolute safety of humans, and has begun a large-scale capture of wild Pokémon within its borders for 'domestication.'"

In the video, a metal collar is locked around the neck of a four-season deer. A human operator issues commands via remote control, and the four-season deer reluctantly makes various movements, its eyes filled with pain and anger.

The meeting room fell silent. Everyone understood what this meant: if this practice spread, the relationship between humans and Pokémon would no longer be symbiosis, but enslavement.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong condemnation," He Zhong continued, "but the other side ignored it and even accused our 'equal coexistence' of hypocrisy, saying that Pokémon are essentially animals and should be controlled and exploited."

"They don't understand," Lin said in a deep voice, "Pokémon are not animals, they are intelligent beings. Forcing them to obey will only accumulate hatred and eventually lead to disaster."

Lin Dao said with some worry, "Even though many powerful Pokémon haven't arrived yet, those that have arrived sporadically, such as Salamence and Abomasnow, won't just sit idly by."

As if to prove his words, that very evening, an emergency news report stated that a riot had broken out at a “control center” in the United States, where imprisoned Pokémon, led by several powerful leaders, had broken out, causing hundreds of casualties and destroying an entire neighborhood.

The scene was horrifying. Burning buildings, screaming crowds, and Pokémon with eyes filled with rage and despair.

"We need to speed things up," Lin Dao told the design team. "Newland City is not just a city, but a model that proves that humans and Pokémon can have a better way of coexisting."

"We must succeed, not only for the Pokémon, but also for the future of humanity."
