Chapter 51: The Production of the Pokémon Anime Begins

Lin Dao listened with a faint smile on his face, without immediately commenting, but simply gesturing to the next person.

Xiaoyou continued, "I think Pokémon are a miracle! They make the world more colorful and incredible! I want to use my paintbrush to depict their coolness, cuteness, gentleness, and strength, so that everyone can see their beauty!"

Afei scratched his head and said frankly, "I used to deliver food and I've met all kinds of people. I think Pokémon are just like people, some are good and some are bad, some have good tempers and some have bad tempers."

"The key is mutual respect and reason. In the story, I don't want to portray Pokémon as either perfect or vicious; that would be too unrealistic."

Old Wu pushed up his glasses, his tone rational.

"They are a new form of 'productivity.' Not in the sense of tools, but as partners. If Pokémon's abilities can be combined with human technology, it could usher in a completely new stage of civilization."

Zhang Qian added softly, "They're also mirrors. How we treat Pokémon reflects what kind of person we are."

Lin Dao listened attentively, nodding occasionally.

Lin Dao listened quietly, a faint smile on his face, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.

He waited until everyone had finished speaking before slowly opening his mouth:

"That's all very well said. But what I want to tell you is that all these attributes in Pokémon are built on the same foundation—bond."

"It's not just a simple 'relationship,' but an irreplaceable connection built between lives through understanding, respect, empathy, and shared experiences."

"So, I need the animation you made." Lin Dao's voice was clear and powerful.

"It's not just simple science education, not a display of technical skills, and certainly not a commercial product to pander to the audience. What I want is a work that can plant the seed of 'bond'."

"So that when children see this, their first reaction when encountering wild Pokémon will not be to run away or attack, but to be curious and kind."

"To allow adults, amidst their busy lives, to recall the purest connections in their lives through stories."

"Even...allowing those who are still watching, doubting, and fearing to truly 'see' the soul of Pokémon for the first time through the screen."

He looked at the dumplings: "Can you do that?"

Dumpling felt his throat was dry, but something was burning in his chest. He turned to look at his companions; Old Wu's eyes were shining, Zhang You nodded vigorously, Wang Fei clenched his fists, and Zhang Qian and Bao Hao had determined looks in their eyes.

"We can." Dumpling's voice was a little hoarse, but unusually firm.

"We may not be professional, we may lack experience, but if our team has any advantage, it is the five of us. It is the bond of 'never abandoning our comrades' that has kept us going until today."

Lin Dao smiled.

That was a genuine, relaxed, and approving smile.

"Very good." He stood up and looked at Shen Yu'er beside him.

"President Shen, it seems our animation department can officially launch today."

"Notify the relevant logistics and administration departments to prepare office space, equipment access, and basic training arrangements for these new colleagues."

Li Ren and his companions could hardly believe their ears. They had passed? Overwhelmed with joy, they were speechless for a moment.

He looked at the few people who were still in a daze: "As for you guys, get ready to work overtime. Today we need to finalize the core framework of the project, produce the first episode sample within a week, and officially launch it within a month."

In the large conference room, more than twenty employees from the group's animation department were already seated.

Among these people are seasoned professionals poached from major TV stations and video platforms, as well as recent graduates recruited by art academies and media schools.

When they saw Shen Yu'er leading six simply dressed, even somewhat rustic, young people in, many people looked puzzled or even disdainful.

But when Lin Dao walked into the conference room and stood in the main seat, all the noise disappeared instantly.

"Everyone, starting today, our group's first original Pokémon anime project is officially launched."

Lin Dao got straight to the point: "The project is tentatively named 'Pokémon'."

"Li Ren is in charge of the core creative supplementary team."

A slight commotion arose from the audience.

Some people whispered to each other, while others frowned.

Lin Dao seemed not to notice and continued, "Before we begin, I'd like to ask everyone to watch a short video."

The projection screen lit up. A short film produced by the Dumpling Team began to play. Although the picture quality was flawed, the emotional impact of the film penetrated the screen, causing several senior animators who had initially been dismissive to sit up straight.

After the short film finished playing, Lin Dao asked, "Did you notice the difference?"

A producer poached from a well-known animation company raised his hand.

"There is a clear technical gap, but... the core is very well grasped, the emotional progression is very solid."

"That's why I chose them," Lin Dao said calmly. "Technical skills can be improved, and experience can be accumulated, but the understanding and expression of 'bonds'—that's talent, and it's also our original aspiration."

Over the next few hours, a fierce brainstorming session unfolded in the group's conference room.

Lin Dao did not directly present a complete "Pokémon anime script," but instead played the role of a guide and information provider.

He explained some basic settings of the Pokémon world: trainers, gyms, leagues, Pokémon centers, professors' research...

He depicted a passionate, somewhat reckless but incredibly sincere young man (similar to Ash), and the initial stages of his relationship with his initially disobedient electric mouse companion (similar to Pikachu), from mutual antagonism to a bond of life and death.

He proposed several core keywords: "bonds," "growth," "adventure," and "coexistence."

Then, he handed the stage over to Li Ren's team.

"Now, based on these fundamental elements and core principles," Lin said, "I need you to envision what our future life will look like."

"The protagonist can be a boy or a girl, and can even have different perspectives."

"You are the ones who design the opportunity for our meeting, the initial conflict and reconciliation, and the first small goal and adventure. I want to see your creativity and thinking."

Li Ren's team quickly got into the swing of things.

Lin Dao stood by, sometimes listening, sometimes asking questions, sometimes adding details about Pokémon settings, and sometimes rejecting some overly frivolous or dark plot points.

He was surprised to find that the creativity and enthusiasm of these young people far exceeded his expectations. They were able to quickly understand and digest the settings he provided, and incorporate their own observations of current social sentiments, coming up with brilliant ideas.

By the end of the meeting, although the complete script had not yet been completed, a clear story framework, distinct main characters, and a first story unit sufficient to produce several episodes had been basically outlined.

The high efficiency satisfied Lin Dao greatly.

"Very good, the direction is right, and the flavor is there too," Lin Dao summarized. "Now it's your battlefield. Li Ren, you are fully responsible for the artistic creation and team management of this project. President Shen will coordinate resources to support you. I want to see results, the sooner the better."

As Lin Dao left the conference room, he suddenly remembered something and whispered with a smile to Shen Yu'er, who was seeing him out, "By the way, Yu'er, I remember you were a key member of the arts and culture group in college? You sang, right?"

Shen Yu'er was taken aback, a rare hint of embarrassment flashing across her face: "Ah? That was so many years ago..."

"Based on the animation theme we discussed, I tried to write a draft of the lyrics. I feel that the melody should lean towards a style of passion and dreams."

Lin Dao took out his phone and waved it.

"We might need to find a singer with a distinctive and captivating voice who can also understand our philosophy. As the CEO, with your extensive network, could you help us find someone? Or... could you try it yourself?"

Shen Yu'er's face flushed red instantly, and she waved her hands repeatedly.

"Me? No way! I've been out of practice for ages... I... I'll find you a professional singer! I guarantee I'll find the right one!"

She almost frantically changed the subject, leading Lin Dao toward the elevator.

Seeing Shen Yu'er showing a rare girlish side, Lin Dao smiled and stopped teasing her.

But he was already looking forward to what kind of chemical reaction would occur when the animation visuals were paired with the right music.

Outside the building, the streetlights were just coming on.

Li Ren and his partners stood in the brand-new temporary office area, looking at the city night view outside the window, still feeling a dreamlike sense of unreality.

But the numerous notes and sketches left behind after their enthusiastic discussions reminded them that a brand new journey, full of challenges and opportunities, had truly begun.

Their pens and lenses will likely depict countless people's imaginations about Pokémon and the future.
