Chapter 24 Elf Eggs
The further you go in, the more shocking the scene becomes.
Thick trees were snapped in half or burned to charcoal, the ground was covered with huge claw marks and explosion craters, the air was filled with heat, visibility was extremely low, and the pungent smell of smoke made it difficult to breathe.
With its excellent sense of smell, the Growlithe struggled but determined to find its way through the messy trails.
On the Arceus phone's map function, life signals within a hundred meters are displayed, and there are far more red (hostile) and yellow (unknown) dots than green (friendly).
Lin Dao gripped the Gene Wedge tightly; its cool touch and the occasional subtle pulse were his anchors for maintaining composure.
They must find those two arrogant brats as soon as possible, and then confront the source of the fire that set the entire forest ablaze.
Meanwhile, deep within the forest, in a hidden tree hollow, two small figures huddled together, shivering.
Pichu huddled in the corner, its small body trembling, the electric sacs on its cheeks emitting a faint electric discharge from its tension: "Pichu... Pichu..."
The serpentine bear tightly clutched a peculiar egg. The eggshell was light blue, covered with fine, delicate scale-like patterns that were irregularly spiraled and shimmered with an eerie luster in the dim light filtering through the tree hole.
"Squeak—squeak—" the snake bear responded softly. Although it was also afraid, its small eyes revealed a protective determination.
A few hours earlier, when the explosion first rang out, two curious little creatures were drawn by the sound and quietly slipped out of the camp. They followed the sound into the depths of the forest, only to witness a scene that shocked them.
Several modified off-road vehicles were parked at the foot of the cliff, and a group of people dressed in strange equipment were hurriedly moving something.
The serpent bear's keen nose detected a faint yet pure scent of life.
They quietly circled around behind the rocks and found an egg shimmering faintly under a charred corpse.
Pichu and the serpent bear exchanged a glance.
Although they didn't understand what was happening, they could sense that the egg needed protection.
The two little guys worked together to pull the egg out.
The zigzag bear carefully cradled the egg in its arms, while Pichu cautiously surveyed its surroundings.
Just as they were about to leave, a bullet struck.
"Squeak—!" The serpentine bear screamed in terror, instinctively rolling to the side while clutching its egg.
Pichu reacted extremely quickly, mustered his courage, and unleashed an electric shock in the direction of the attacker!
A blinding flash of lightning illuminated the scene, and a woman dressed in a sharp suit, holding a strange pistol, groaned and collapsed, convulsing.
The two little ones were terrified and didn't have time to look closely. The zigzag bear picked up the egg (but found it too heavy to carry, so it held it tightly), and Pichu followed behind, using its small size and familiarity with the forest to escape as fast as it could.
But they soon discovered that there was more than one pursuer.
More fully armed, cold-faced people appeared around them, and deep commands and the sound of search footsteps drew closer.
They had no choice but to hide in this long-abandoned tree hollow, holding their breath and praying not to be discovered.
Outside the tree hollow, Wang Yafei, the woman who had been electrocuted, awoke amidst a sharp pain.
She shook her head, wiped the drool from the corner of her mouth caused by the electric shock, her eyes filled with resentment and determination.
As a spy who had been recruited and hidden deep within the organization, she received orders to steal the "Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon Egg" at all costs.
The superior obtained top-secret intelligence about the Salamence and its lair through an informant planted within the military, and meticulously planned this operation.
The egg, which was successfully stolen after sacrificing several elite team members by using a special device to lure away the Salamence, was snatched away by two inexplicable "little monsters" at the last moment!
To make matters worse, the enraged Salamence returned at incredible speed, and the decoy squad was instantly reduced to ashes by the flames.
Wang Yafei led her remaining subordinates in a frantic escape, only to watch helplessly as the egg was stolen. Losing its target, the Salamence went completely berserk, indiscriminately destroying everything in its path…
She had to get that egg back! It was her only hope of completing her mission, gaining a new identity, and a life of wealth and luxury; it was also her last chance to escape this hell.
As for what will happen to the Salamence after it gets the egg, and what price this forest and China will pay, those are no longer within her consideration.
"Traces found! Here!" A low voice came from not far away, filled with the excitement of discovering prey.
Wang Yafei perked up, drew her pistol, and crouched down to sneak towards the direction of the sound.
She saw several mercenaries surrounding an inconspicuous tree hole, their guns all pointed at the entrance.
Heavy footsteps approached the tree hollow.
Pichu and the serpent bear stared at each other in despair; they were surrounded.
Just at this critical moment, a crashing sound, exclamations, and... a familiar dog barking came from outside the tree hole.
A blazing wheel of fire, like an angry meteor, burst forth from the trees on his side and slammed into his waist!
The mercenary screamed as his body flew through the air like a rag doll, crashing into a tree. The sound of bones shattering was clearly audible, and his clothes, which had been set ablaze, quickly engulfed him.
"Enemy attack!" Another mercenary had barely uttered half a sentence when a precise bullet pierced his temple, exiting from the other side with a spray of blood, and his body slumped to the ground.
"Growlithe, Agility followed by Flame Wheel!" Lin Dao's voice cut through the chaos like a cold blade.
The Growlithe's figure left a trail of afterimages in the smoke as it crashed into the second enemy at incredible speed, causing flames to erupt once more.
At the same time, precise bursts of fire rang out from different directions one after another. Ye Aiguo and Xiao Wang were like lurking ghosts, and with each shot, an enemy fell.
The battle ended in a dozen seconds.
As the last mercenary collapsed to the ground, clutching his bullet-pierced knee and howling in pain, Wang Yafei's wrist was also struck by a bullet, and her pistol flew out of her hand.
Xiao Wang, who had been waiting for his chance, pounced like a cheetah, pinning her to the ground, quickly dislocating her joints, and binding her tightly with a special rope.
"Zigglyph! Pichu! You can come out now! It's Brother Lin! Brother Lin has come to save us!" Li Hao's voice, filled with sobs and ecstasy, came from behind.
He was still worried, so after settling into the camp, he asked a soldier to lead the way and followed from a distance. Just then, he arrived.
Inside the tree hollow, Pichu and Zigzagoon heard a familiar voice. After hesitating for a few seconds, they cautiously poked their heads out.
When he saw Li Hao, who was covered in dirt but had an anxious look in his eyes, and Lin Dao, who was holding the Gene Wedge and looking at him with a cold but concerned expression, he was overwhelmed with immense grievance and fear.
Pichu cried "Pichu Pichu!" and darted onto Lindao's shoulder like lightning, hugging his neck tightly.
The serpent bear, clutching the egg, ran towards Li Hao with tears in its eyes, nuzzling his leg and whimpering.
"You two silly little devils..." Li Hao was both angry and heartbroken, picking up the snake-striped bear. "Do you know how worried we were?"
Lin Dao breathed a sigh of relief and gently stroked Pichu's head: "It's alright, it's alright, you did a great job."
His gaze immediately fell on the faintly glowing fairy egg in the serpent bear's arms, and his pupils suddenly contracted. "Where...where did this fairy egg come from?"
At the same time, Ye Aiguo stepped forward and carefully examined the extraordinary egg.
He took out a specially made military-grade encrypted phone, took several high-definition photos of the egg, and quickly sent them.
A moment later, his phone vibrated. He opened the reply message, and his expression became extremely serious.
"Mr. Lin Dao," Ye Aiguo raised his head, his voice low, "I think I know why the Flying Dragon went crazy."
