Chapter 93 The Demise of the Black Witch Society

On the way back to Hogsmeade, the Summoning Pokédex emitted a warning light. Bai Lin opened it and saw the following message clearly displayed on the screen:

[World Quest successfully released: The Great Old Ones.]

[*World Missions: Large-scale missions requiring the joint efforts of all Awakened on the planet. A World Mission Contribution Value is established; completing side quests within World Missions will earn World Mission Contribution Value, which can be directly exchanged for rewards through the Domination System.]

[The Great Old Ones: Grakia, a minion of Hastur, arrives in the Wizarding World via a meteor. He will gather power to open the gates of the Dark Empire, at which point Earth EZ-0769 will be ruled by the Great Old Ones.]

[Available side quest: 1. Recruit teammates: Successfully recruit five teammates to earn 200 contribution points.]

[2. Earn 300 contribution points for each Hastur Order member killed.]

[3. Earn 800 contribution points for each elite member of the Hastur Order killed.]

[4. For each fragment of an "Old Boundary Stone" destroyed, 1000 contribution points are awarded.]

[5. Raid on the Shadows: Disrupt the Hastur Order's gathering, obtain "The King in Yellow" (Note: This book will corrupt human sanity), and gain 3000 contribution points.]

There were also various explanations and descriptions that made Bai Lin dizzy. Finally, he returned to Hogsmeade. Bai Lin was exhausted. After a brief moment of intimacy with Catherine, he told her about the prophecies of the three Dark Lords.

It took Catherine a while to process what was happening. She asked, clearly panicked, "You mean you're going to go and fight them?"

Bai Lin said helplessly, "I'm afraid they'll come looking for trouble... I'm not worried about Voldemort, but the second Dark Lord, I have something he wants on me..."

Catherine paused, then suddenly stood up abruptly and said, "Why don't we run away! To some small country without wizards or something?"

Bai Lin shook his head and said, "I have a secret I've never told anyone. I want to form a combat team to deal with these terrible crises. Can you help me?"

Catherine looked pained, but in the end, she took a few steps back, as if she had made a great decision.

"Kaylin, let's break up!"

Bai Lin looked at Catherine in surprise; her face was already streaked with tears. Just moments ago they were deeply in love, but now they faced separation.

Bai Lin seemed to understand. Catherine just wanted to live a peaceful life, just like how she, a top student at Beauxbatons School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, ran a small clothing store in Hogsmeade and lived an ordinary and quiet life. The time they spent together had taken her on quite a few risks, and she must be very tired by now.

Perhaps when Bai Lin is fifty or sixty years old, he will also want to live such a peaceful life, but now he is not willing to live in anonymity. From this point of view, he and Catherine will never be able to be together.

Bai Lin didn't know how he got back to the faculty dormitory from Hogsmeade. He felt like he had lost half his soul. From meeting Catherine's father on the train to the scene of their decisive breakup, everything flashed before his eyes like a slideshow. His thoughts, along with the midnight bells, soared into the brilliant starry sky and drifted towards a world of the past that he had almost forgotten.

"Sun God, why did you choose me?"

Unfortunately, no one answered him. The Summoning Compendium glowed faintly with golden light, as if reminding him that he bore the heavy responsibility of the very survival of the wizarding world.

For the next few days, Bai Lin didn't even want to open the Summoning Compendium. He attended classes in a daze, and the students were all guessing what had happened to him. Many girls guessed that he had broken up with his girlfriend, which made them feel sorry for him and even a little excited. But Bai Lin didn't want to open their letters either, and threw them all into the cabinet in the faculty lounge.

Then the Daily Prophet broadcast a major news story: the Black Witches' Society, hiding in the south of France, was attacked by a group of Muggle soldiers calling themselves Spellbreakers during a gathering. At least twenty members of the Black Witches' Society were killed, more than seventy were injured, and their leader, Babnall, died on the spot. The attackers escaped unharmed and disappeared once again.

This was like a grenade thrown into a calm lake in the wizarding world. Some wizards insisted that the Dark Wizarding Society was a gang of thieves, thugs, and murderers, a scourge on the world, and that this spellbreaker, though extreme in his methods, was doing a service to the people. Other wizards, however, believed this was the prelude to Muggles waging war against the wizarding world. They argued that Muggles had acquired the ability to kill wizards on a large scale and escape unscathed, which was enough to shake the foundations of wizarding society, and that it was safer without wizards.

Bai Lin never expected that just a few days ago he thought the Spellbreakers would cause a big incident at the Quidditch World Cup, but instead they directly attacked the Black Witches. This little organization with an evil name but actually a bit pitiful was wiped out overnight.

This solidified Bai Lin's deduction: the Spellbreakers were no longer simply seeking revenge for blood debts, but their hatred had expanded from the dark wizards who harmed them to all those who used dark magic (not everyone who uses dark magic is a dark wizard; the term "dark wizard" implies someone who uses dark magic to commit crimes, otherwise Durmstrang School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which teaches dark magic, would be a cradle of criminals and thus not part of the mainstream wizarding world). Ultimately, they would want to exterminate all wizards.

Spellbreakers, Voldemort, the Hattas Order of the Second Dark Lord, and the third Dark Lord whose identity is still unknown—with so many enemies, Bai Lin simply didn't know how to face them.

At lunchtime in the dining hall, the children were still carefree, noisy, gossiping, and enjoying their food, while Bai Lin sat in a corner, unable to eat a single bite, until a flash of light appeared beside him, and Phineas appeared next to him (house-elves can freely Apparate at Hogwarts).

"My master! My friend Zobi has left, leaving behind a letter." Finnis said with some distress. With Zobi gone, only he and Dobby are left in the shop. How are they going to continue doing business? Will the master be furious if sales decline...? He thought of many tragic endings.

Bai Lin numbly took the note from Finis's hand and was shocked to see that Zhuo Bi had actually gone to cause trouble for the Spellbreakers all by himself, saying that some of the dead members of the Black Witch Society were his childhood friends and that he and the Spellbreakers were sworn enemies.

"Do you know where he went?" Bai Lin asked Finnis.

Phineas shook his head and said, "Zhuobi's friend is an excellent spatial mage. His whereabouts are very difficult to find. Phineas tried his best, but he couldn't find him."

Although Bai Lin and Zhuo Bi were not close friends and mostly had a superior-subordinate relationship, Bai Lin already considered Zhuo Bi one of his few friends. Although Zhuo Bi was highly skilled in magic and his spatial magic almost caught Bai Lin off guard, Bai Lin thought that he was likely to be in grave danger if he encountered a magic-breaker like Caesar, and he couldn't help but feel quite anxious.
