Revelation of the Way of Heaven

Chapter 107 Interrogation

The police arrived at Changsheng Temple three hours later.

Qin Xiaochuan looked out from the door of the reception room and saw Ru Xiang leading three criminal police officers in cotton-padded coats and a forensic doctor in a white coat into the room.

"Where is the suspect?" The leader of the criminal police was a young man under thirty years old, over 1.7 meters tall, slightly overweight, with dark skin and a cold expression. He asked the monk at the door as he walked into the room.

"They're still in the reception room; we haven't let them leave even a step," a monk at the door replied.

When the three detectives and the forensic doctor entered the meeting room, the five people were still sitting at the table. Perhaps because they appeared so calm, the lead officer was momentarily stunned when he walked in.

Just as Qin Xiaochuan was thinking about how to recount the incident to them, the lead detective suddenly pointed at him and said with a look of surprise, "Hey, aren't you...?"

He looked at the other person in confusion, wondering to himself, "Do we know each other?"

"You're Qin Xiaochuan from the Qilin team," he said with surprise. After saying that, he looked at the others and quickly spotted Guo Shiyi. He excitedly said again, "You're Guo Shiyi, the captain of the Qilin team! I didn't expect you to be here. I watched your match a few days ago. You faced so much pressure and still managed to crush the Japanese team. It was really satisfying to watch."

He stood in front of the five people and excitedly spoke at length, completely forgetting why he was there, leaving them all feeling extremely embarrassed.

"Boss." Finally, one of the detectives behind him couldn't stand it anymore and gave him a timely reminder.

"Oh, oh." The lead detective finally reacted and introduced himself to them, "I am Wang Zhilong from the Criminal Investigation Team." As he spoke, he took out his ID to show the five men, then pointed to the two people behind him and said, "These are my colleagues Zhou Hao and Zhu Zheng." He then pointed to the female forensic doctor and said, "This is forensic doctor Hu Xiaoxi."

After he finished his introductions, he frowned and looked at Qin Xiaochuan. "You guys are the suspects they were talking about?"

Qin Xiaochuan nodded.

Wang Zhilong said helplessly, "In that case, you should give your statements first, and let Hu Xiaoxi examine the body."

They sat down at the table as instructed and recounted the events of the incident in detail.

"You mean that the Japanese Conqueror team also came to Changsheng Temple?" Wang Zhilong asked in surprise after hearing their story.

"That's right, this should be confirmed with the monks of Changsheng Temple," Qin Xiaochuan told him.

"A few strangers did come here a few days ago," Huiming confirmed from the side.

"A few days ago?" Wang Zhilong asked.

"Four days... no, it was five days ago. That evening, I went to the river to fetch water and saw Uncle Ruxiang leading them towards the temple. Uncle Ruxiang, was that the day?" Huiming confirmed with Ruxiang.

"Yes, yes, it was indeed that day." Ru Xiang seemed to think for a moment before confirming Hui Ming's answer.

Wang Zhilong handed Ru Xiang a photo of Kawamoto Taro from Han Kexin's phone and asked, "Is this the person?"

"Yes, that's him." Ru Xiang nodded.

"Okay, I understand." Wang Zhilong put his phone away, swiped the photo on the screen to the one of Abbot Ruzhen, and said to the five people, "I have a question. Since you said you've never seen Abbot Ruzhen before, where did you get this photo? Judging from the appearance of the photo, it should be a recent picture of him. It couldn't have been found online, could it?"

Qin Xiaochuan really couldn't explain this question clearly. Even if they told the truth, it was still a question whether the other party would believe them.

Perhaps noticing the hesitation on his face, Wang Zhilong couldn't help but keep a close eye on him.

The atmosphere in the reception room suddenly became tense. Everyone noticed his unusual behavior, and almost everyone focused their attention on him.

"Damn it, could I really be considered a murderer because of this?" Qin Xiaochuan thought anxiously to himself, but he couldn't find a convincing reason for it.

Just as he was racking his brains and feeling increasingly confused, Han Kexin suddenly spoke up coldly: "Officer Wang, this matter doesn't seem to have anything to do with this case, does it?"

Perhaps because Han Kexin was too cold, as soon as she spoke, everyone's attention turned to her, and Qin Xiaochuan felt the pressure on him instantly ease.

"I think you've realized that this case is related to your purpose in coming here, so we can only find the clues we need by figuring out the cause and effect of the case first." Wang Zhilong looked at Han Kexin expressionlessly, and unconsciously he returned to the cold and stern expression he had when he first arrived. "I'm doing this for your own good. The sooner we figure out this case, the sooner you can get out of here."

"But there are some things I really can't explain to you. You know we are all people with superpowers, so naturally we have some special methods that you can't understand to find Kawamoto Taro's whereabouts and the abbot's photo." Han Kexin's voice remained cold, showing no intention of backing down.

Qin Xiaochuan didn't know what Wang Zhilong was thinking about Han Kexin's attitude, but he felt quite awkward, after all, Officer Wang was still his fan. Han Kexin, however, hadn't considered this at all, and even if she had, given her icy personality, she probably wouldn't have cared.

He wanted to say something to ease the tension, but he was afraid of offending one side if he didn't handle it well. Just as he was hesitating, Wang Zhilong, who had been silent for a while, said, "Since you put it that way, then I won't ask about the specific methods. Perhaps we can start from other aspects."

"A wise choice," Qin Xiaochuan thought to himself. Otherwise, even if the stalemate continued until tomorrow, he would never get the information he wanted from Han Kexin.

"Then let me ask Miss Han another question." Wang Zhilong continued his investigation, "What exactly did you mean by those two sentences you said to Abbot Ruzhen? Why did he bow to you? I think the answer to this question should be something we can understand, right?" He spoke slowly as he looked at Han Kexin with a scrutinizing gaze, as if trying to find the answer from her expression.

He was referring to the two rhetorical questions posed by Han Kexin and Abbot Ruzhen, which Xiaoying had also asked Qin Xiaochuan back then.

"I don't know if you can understand," Han Kexin said calmly, "Those two sentences we said were actually a Zen dialogue."

"Zen meditation?" Wang Zhilong looked at her in confusion. What she and the abbot were saying couldn't be simpler. What did it have to do with the profound Zen meditation?

"Abbot Ruzhen believed that the place we were looking for, the source of witchcraft, was a vague and unreal thing, so he advised us to turn back as soon as possible and not to waste any more time and energy. This is the same principle as 'The monks advise you to become monks and not suffer in the mortal world.'"

"We understand that, but what do you mean by that?" Qin Xiaochuan couldn't help but ask.

"Remember those meditation rooms we stayed in last night? They were furnished almost like a hotel, which means people often come here to stay."

"That's right. There are indeed quite a few tourists who come here to explore and stay overnight, and they also donate some money for incense. This is also a major source of income for our Changsheng Temple." Huiguang, a disciple of Abbot Ruzhen, confirmed Han Kexin's speculation.

Han Kexin nodded and continued, "My question to the abbot was, 'Does the master really hope that all people will stop being attached to these illusory things?' It means that if everyone is attached to the things of the Wuyuan Land, Changsheng Temple will have no main source of income. It can also be understood as, 'If everyone in the world sees through the illusions of the world and becomes a monk, then no one will support the monks.'"

"I see." Qin Xiaochuan nodded. It was indeed a paradox. He wondered how the abbot understood the problem.

"Why do I still feel a little confused?" Wang Zhilong asked after listening to Han Kexin's explanation.

Han Kexin didn't offer much explanation, because she had just said that she didn't know if they could understand.

"Officer Wang, the autopsy results are in. The deceased showed no signs of poisoning. The only fatal wound was a very small one on the left chest." Just as they were pondering, forensic doctor Hu Xiaoxi suddenly presented her autopsy results.

Note: The question of "If everyone in the world became a monk, no one would support monks" has been raised before, and there are also explanations in the Buddhist community. I will not go into details here, but anyone who is interested can look it up online.
