Rebirth in the Dragon Kingdom: The Strongest Blade
Chapter 33 Tempering for 3 Months
For the next three months, Lin Zhe worked like a machine running at full speed, almost without sleep.
At four in the morning, while the rest of the military region was still asleep, the Hunter Blade Special Forces camp was already filled with training slogans. Lin Zhe was the first to appear on the training ground, leading his team to begin their day's training.
"First event today: 20km cross-country run with weights!" Lin Zhe's voice was exceptionally clear in the morning mist. "The last three will have an extra 5km run!"
No one on the team complained. The intensity of the training over the past three months had made everyone accustomed to this rhythm—or rather, they had been forced to get used to it by Lin Zhe.
After the cross-country run came the combat training. Lin Zhe personally took to the ring, fighting three, five, or even seven opponents at once. His movements were lightning fast, and his strength was astonishing; his teammates often couldn't last more than ten moves against him.
"Captain Lin, your skills...have improved again?" Old Ma asked, panting, during a break.
Lin Zhe took a sip of water and nodded: "You all need to improve every day."
This is not just empty talk. After three months of hard training, Lin Zhe could clearly feel his improvement—he had reached the fourth level of Hunyuan Gong, his internal "qi" was more abundant, his five senses were more acute, and his reaction speed, strength, and endurance had all reached new heights.
The morning session consisted of tactical training. Lin Zhe combined the special operations concepts he had accumulated in his previous life with his practical experience in this life to design a completely new training program. Urban warfare, jungle warfare, mountain warfare, night warfare... every subject was closely related to actual combat, and every detail was repeatedly refined.
"Remember, there are no second chances on the battlefield!" Lin Zhe shouted in the simulated city battlefield. "One mistake could cost you a life!"
The afternoon was dedicated to equipment operation and skills training. Lin Zhe not only required his team members to master the existing equipment, but also designed some training equipment himself—a control console simulating drone operation, a replica of a single-soldier exoskeleton testing device, and even a rudimentary virtual reality system.
"Team Leader Lin, where did these things come from?" The team members stared in disbelief at the "strange" equipment.
"I figured it out myself," Lin Zhe said casually. "Future wars will be inseparable from high-tech equipment. The more you learn now, the greater your chances of winning in the future."
Evenings were over for the team members, but Lin Zhe's work was far from finished. He was either writing training outlines in the office, conducting technical research in his dormitory, or studying foreign languages and various professional knowledge.
The development of the training syllabus is a systematic project. Lin Zhe not only needs to summarize the training experience of Hunter Blade, but also refer to the training methods of special forces at home and abroad, and combine them with his own ideas to form a scientific, systematic and scalable program.
He wrote in great detail—from standard movements in physical training to cultivating tactical teamwork; from precautions for using equipment to methods for developing mental fortitude... every aspect was explained in detail, and every detail was supported by theory.
In terms of technical research, Lin Zhe submitted four reports in the past three months: "Preliminary Design Scheme of Individual Exoskeleton System", "Concept of Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Swarm Operation", "Framework for Battlefield Information Network Construction", and "Research Progress of New Ballistic Protective Materials".
Every report sent shockwaves through the General Armaments Department. When Director Li called, his voice trembled: "Lin Zhe, your ideas... are too advanced! But they're all theoretically feasible! We need to hold a special seminar!"
"Anytime is fine, but I can't get away right now," Lin Zhe said. "Maybe in three months."
"Okay! Then three months from now!"
Besides training and research, Lin Zhe also had to prepare for the testing of "Hidden Dragon". He borrowed operation manuals for various vehicles - tanks, armored vehicles, helicopters, speedboats... and studied them one by one. As for foreign languages, he focused on languages other than the three he already knew, spending an hour each morning and evening without fail.
Zhang Xueying would call every night, but Lin Zhe would often fall asleep after only a few words.
"Lin Zhe, you're pushing yourself too hard," Zhang Xueying said with concern.
"It's okay, I can manage," Lin Zhe always said.
But Zhang Xueying could hear the weariness in his voice. She didn't say anything more, but called him every night on time, even if it was just to hear him say a few words or just to hear his breathing.
One month, two months, three months...
Time flew by amidst sweat and hard work. The Hunter Blade Special Forces team underwent a complete transformation. Not only did the individual abilities of the team members improve significantly, but their teamwork also reached an astonishing level of synergy.
When Chen Jianfeng occasionally came to inspect the training, he would nod repeatedly upon seeing the scene on the training field: "Excellent! This is truly the ace of our Southwest Military Region!"
Three months later, two major events occurred as scheduled.
The first event is the All-Army Special Forces Competition. This is a tradition of the Chinese military, held every two years, where the most elite special operations teams from each military region compete for the honor of "Number One Special Operations Team in the Entire Army".
Hunter Blade represented the Southwest Military Region in the competition. The competition consisted of twelve events: physical fitness, shooting, combat, tactics, demolition, reconnaissance, infiltration, rescue... covering all special operations skills.
On the first day of the competition, Hunter Blade shocked everyone.
In the physical fitness events, Hunter Blade swept the top three spots. In the shooting event, Lin Zhe achieved the only perfect score of the entire competition. In the combat event, a Hunter Blade member easily defeated three opponents single-handedly...
"Which unit is this?" The team leaders from other military regions exchanged bewildered glances. "When did the Southwest Military Region acquire such a strong special operations team?"
"I heard it's a Hunter Blade, but... the Hunter Blades weren't this strong before?"
"Look at that young vice-captain, the lieutenant colonel, that's Lin Zhe!"
"Lin Zhe? That's the 22-year-old lieutenant colonel?"
By the fifth day of the competition, the outcome was no longer in doubt. Hunter Blade ranked first in all ten events, with a commanding lead in total points.
The final exercise was a live-fire drill—a simulated hostage rescue. Hunter Blade, as the attacking side, had thirty minutes to storm a building controlled by "terrorists" and rescue the hostages.
Lin Zhe led the team. Instead of a direct assault, he used small drones to scout the area inside the building. Then, he split into three groups, infiltrating from three directions simultaneously, using feints and coordinated attacks seamlessly.
While the "terrorists" were still dealing with the feint attack from the front, Lin Zhe had already evacuated the hostages through the ventilation ducts. The entire process took only eighteen minutes, setting a new combat record.
"The match is over! First place goes to the Southwest Military Region Hunter Blade Special Forces Team!" the referee announced.
The entire arena erupted in applause. The Hunter Blade team members embraced each other excitedly, with Lin Zhe standing in the middle, a gratified smile on his face.
Three months of hard work, it was all worth it.
The second major event was the completion of the training syllabus. When Lin Zhe handed the thick syllabus to Chen Jianfeng, the commander's eyes grew brighter as he flipped through it.
"Great! Excellent!" Chen Jianfeng exclaimed, slapping the table in admiration. "Lin Zhe, your outline is far superior to the one compiled by the General Staff! It's practical, systematic, and innovative!"
"Thank you for the compliment, Commander," Lin Zhe said. "However, this is only a first draft and still needs to be tested in practice."
"Test? The results of the Hunter Blade competition are the best test!" Chen Jianfeng laughed. "In this competition, you have demonstrated the might of the Southwest Military Region! The Central Military Commission has high expectations for your outline."
Sure enough, three days after the competition, the Central Military Commission issued an order: appointing Lin Zhe as the training advisor for the special forces of the entire army, responsible for guiding the training reform of special operations teams in various military regions.
Meanwhile, the test notification for "Qianlong" also arrived: one week later, at a base in Beijing, it would undergo assessment.
"Lin Zhe, are you ready?" Chen Jianfeng asked.
"Ready?" Lin Zhe said firmly.
"Alright! Then I won't say any more." Chen Jianfeng patted him on the shoulder. "Remember, no matter the outcome, you are the pride of the Southwest Military Region."
After leaving the commander's office, Lin Zhe returned to the Hunter Blade camp. The team members had already heard that he was leaving to participate in some kind of test, and they all gathered around him.
"Captain Lin, are you really leaving?" Old Ma's eyes were a little red.
"It's not certain yet," Lin Zhe said. "Some things are unknown, and we might not be able to get through it."
"You'll definitely pass!" Liu said. "You're the strongest person we've ever met!"
The team members nodded in agreement. The past three months of training had given them a deeper understanding of Lin Zhe's abilities—it was beyond just being "strong," he was practically a monster.
Looking at his comrades with whom he had spent so much time, Lin Zhe felt a pang of reluctance. But he knew he had to move on.
"Training can't stop while I'm gone," he said. "I've already given the training syllabus to Captain Qin Feng, and he'll continue training with you. The Hunter Blade banner must not fall."
"Yes!" the team members responded in unison.
That evening, Lin Zhe packed his luggage. Actually, there wasn't much to pack: a few military uniforms, some documents, and... a watch that Zhang Xueying had given him.
He picked up his watch, remembering the girl's smile. He'd been too busy lately and had neglected her. But Xueying never complained; she just silently supported him.
Lin Zhe dialed the phone.
"Feeding?" Zhang Xueying's voice came through, filled with surprise. "What brings you to call today?"
"I'm going to Beijing tomorrow," Lin Zhe said.
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the phone: "Is it...that test?"
"Um."
"Lin Zhe, be careful." Zhang Xueying's voice was choked with emotion. "No matter the outcome, I support you."
"Thank you," Lin Zhe said sincerely. "Xueying, I'm sorry for everything these past few days."
"What are you saying?" Zhang Xueying laughed. "You're a soldier, I know. Let's get together properly after you're done with this busy period."
"it is good."
After hanging up the phone, Lin Zhe looked out the window. In the darkness, the special forces camp was quiet, with only the sound of patrolling sentries.
In three months, he completed the training syllabus, led the Hunter Blade team to first place in the entire army, and submitted multiple technical reports...
Now, new challenges lie ahead.
"Hidden Dragon"... Will he become one of them?
Lin Zhe didn't know. But he knew that no matter the outcome, he would keep moving forward.
In this life, he wants to become the strongest soldier, see scenery he never saw in his previous life, and live a wonderful life.
