Zixia's pupils contracted slightly.
Yao Xi, the Holy Maiden of Yao Guang.
How did she end up here?
Li Qingchen peeked out from behind Zixia, and the moment he saw the figure in the courtyard, his emerald eyes narrowed instantly.
"Who are you?"
She strode to the stove, looked Yao Xi up and down, and asked warily, "Where's my dad?"
Yao Xi looked at the girl with emerald green eyes in front of her, and then at the purple figure behind her, her mind racing.
It turns out that the senior already has a daughter.
Moreover, the innate Azure Dragon bloodline within this young man was astonishingly pure; even she could clearly sense the immense vitality emanating from him.
The depth of knowledge and experience of the predecessors is evident in their ability to cultivate such successors.
But why did the Holy Maiden of the Purple Mansion come along too?
Bringing someone else's daughter to their home—this relationship just doesn't seem right!
Yao Xi quickly suppressed her distracting thoughts and a perfectly timed smile appeared on her face: "Senior is inside, I'll go and inform him."
She had barely finished speaking when the door to the main room was pushed open.
Li Qingshan walked out, still dressed in black, holding the green bamboo pole in his hand, his face bearing his usual gentle and lazy expression.
He glanced at the three people in the courtyard, paused on Zixia, and then looked at Li Qingchen, a smile appearing on his lips.
"Oh, you're back?"
As soon as Li Qingchen saw Li Qingshan, his emerald green eyes lit up, and he rushed over like a gust of wind.
"Dad!"
She grabbed Li Qingshan's arm, her face full of excitement, "Why are you here in Beidou too? When did you arrive?"
Why didn't you tell me?
Li Qingshan was shaken so much by her that he leaned slightly to one side. He reached out and patted her head, saying, "Loosen up, loosen up. You're such a grown-up, why are you still so clingy?"
"Don't loosen it!"
Li Qingchen hugged him even tighter. "Dad, you have no idea how much I missed you in the Purple Mansion Holy Land. I've mastered all the cultivation techniques Master taught me, and my cultivation has reached the Dao Palace Secret Realm. When are you going to roast some wings for me again?"
Li Qingshan was both amused and exasperated: "All you ever think about is eating."
He ruffled Li Qingchen's hair and turned his gaze to Zixia.
Zixia still stood at the courtyard gate, her purple dress appearing particularly aloof in the twilight.
A faint purple mist shrouded her face, and her eyes were quietly gazing in this direction, carrying a complex expression.
"Miss Zixia, it's been a long time."
Li Qingshan spoke casually.
Zixia nodded slightly: "Senior Li!"
Her voice remained cold and unresponsive, revealing no emotion.
Only then did Li Qingchen remember something, and he pulled Li Qingshan's arm closer to Zixia: "Dad, let me introduce you. This is my master, the Holy Maiden of the Purple Mansion. I've mentioned her to you before; she's a wonderful person and has taught me so much!"
Li Qingshan nodded: "Yes, I know."
Zixia didn't speak, but her gaze involuntarily swept past Li Qingshan's side and landed on the pale blue figure by the stove.
Yao Xi was also looking at her.
The two women's eyes met in mid-air, and the air seemed to freeze for a moment.
Yao Xi spoke first, her voice soft and melodious: "So it is the Holy Maiden of the Purple Mansion in person. I have long admired your name. I am Yao Xi from the Yao Guang Holy Land. I am currently residing here to help you with some miscellaneous tasks."
As she spoke, her gaze shifted between Zixia and Li Qingchen, a hint of gossip flashing in her eyes.
The senior's daughter is the disciple of this Purple Mansion Saintess, but the Purple Mansion Saintess's gaze towards the senior is somewhat unusual.
The relationship here is probably quite interesting!
Zixia's expression remained unchanged; she simply said, "I have long heard of the great name of the Holy Maiden of Yaoguang."
Only then did Li Qingchen notice Yao Xi by the stove.
She blinked her emerald green eyes, first looking at Zixia, then at Li Qingshan, her expression becoming somewhat subtle.
"Dad, who is she?"
She pointed at Yao Xi, her tone tinged with wariness.
"Oh, I picked it up on the road. Help me cook."
Li Qingshan spoke casually.
Upon hearing this, Li Qingchen frowned.
She scrutinized Yao Xi with a look that was both critical and wary, and even carried a hint of hostility.
You found it?
Cooking?
She's so good-looking and dressed so nicely, how could she be a cook?
She's not stupid.
But Li Qingchen didn't react on the spot; he just snorted and held onto Li Qingshan's arm tightly.
Dinner time.
Old Chen came out of the kitchen carrying a large basin of fish soup, cheerfully greeting everyone, "Come, come, sit down, sit down, try this girl's cooking. Zixia, it's rare for you to come back, eat more!"
-
Zixia nodded slightly and sat down next to Old Chen.
Li Qingchen sat next to Li Qingshan, but his emerald green eyes kept glancing at Yao Xi across from him.
Yao Xi held her bowl and ate her meal quietly. Occasionally, she would look up and her eyes would briefly meet Zi Xia's before they looked away.
The atmosphere was quite subtle.
Old Chen, oblivious to everything, kept putting food on Zixia's plate while muttering, "Zixia, are you having a hard time cultivating in that holy land? You look thinner again. Did those old guys bully you?"
Zixia shook her head: "Grandpa, I'm fine."
"What's so good about it? I don't think you're any good."
Old Chen sighed, "Look at you, all alone out there, with no one to take care of you. Unlike Little Li, who at least brings back someone to cook for him when he goes out—"
As he spoke, his gaze swept over Yao Xi, then turned to Zi Xia, his expression becoming somewhat subtle.
"Zixia, don't you think Xiao Li is quite an interesting guy?"
Zixia tightened her grip on the chopsticks slightly, but remained silent.
Yao Xi chuckled softly beside her. The chuckle was so soft that everyone present could hear it.
Li Qingchen immediately looked up and glared at her.
Li Qingshan ate his food leisurely throughout, seemingly completely unaware of the undercurrents in the air.
"This fish is delicious, very fresh!"
He picked up a piece of food with his chopsticks and nodded.
Old Chen chuckled and chimed in, "Of course! How could the fish in the cold river be any bad? You should see who caught them!"
"Did Grandpa catch it?"
"Of course, I went out and cast a couple of lines this afternoon, just waiting for Zixia to come back and have a taste of something fresh."
As Old Chen spoke, he ladled another bowl of soup for Zixia. "Here, girl, drink more. This is fish from the Cold River; you definitely can't get this kind of fish in that holy land!"
Zixia took the bowl and said softly, "Thank you, Grandpa."
Li Qingchen looked at Zixia, then at Yao Xi, and suddenly asked, "Dad, do you think my master's cooking is better, or hers?"
She pointed at Yao Xi.
Li Qingshan didn't even look up: "Everything's alright."
Li Qingchen persisted, "Then which one tastes better?"
Li Qingshan finally raised his head and glanced at her.
That gaze was calm, yet it made Li Qingchen swallow back the words he was about to say.
"Have a meal."
Li Qingshan said.
Li Qingchen pursed his lips and lowered his head to eat, but his emerald green eyes still occasionally glanced at Yao Xi.
Yao Xi ate quietly the whole time, with a faint smile on her face, revealing no emotion.
Zixia remained quiet, though her cool eyes would occasionally glance at Li Qingshan before quickly looking away.
The meal ended in this subtle atmosphere.
It was late at night.
Zixia came to the riverbank alone.
The moonlight spilled onto the river, shattering into a sheet of silver scales. A river breeze swept by, carrying damp moisture, and stirred her clothes.
She stood beside the bluestone where Li Qingshan often sat, gazing at the murmuring river, lost in thought.
Footsteps sounded.
Li Qingshan appeared behind her without her noticing.
"Can't sleep?"
He spoke casually, walked over to her, sat down on the blue stone, and put his fishing rod aside.
Zixia didn't turn around, she just gave a soft "hmm".
Li Qingshan patted the bluestone beside him: "Why are you standing? Sit down."
Zixia hesitated for a moment, then sat down next to him.
The two were about a foot apart, and the moonlight shone on the river, breaking into pieces of silver scales.
Don't take Old Chen's words to heart.
Li Qingshan stared at the river, his tone indifferent, "He just loves to worry about everything, he worries about everyone. Last time he was even asking me to introduce you to someone, saying that you're at the age where you should settle down."
Zixia was taken aback for a moment, then realized it was a joke, and her lips twitched slightly: "Grandpa does worry a lot."
"you do not say."
As Li Qingshan spoke, he picked up a fishing rod from the side and cast it casually. "He asked me last time if Zixia was interested in me because she always looked this way when she came back. I told him, 'Old Chen, you're overthinking it. She's a holy maiden from a sacred place, with a bright future ahead of her. Why would she look at a fisherman like me?'"
Zixia didn't speak, she just listened quietly.
A river breeze blew by, carrying damp moisture, and ruffled her hair.
"Qingchen told me."
She suddenly spoke, her voice very soft, "She said she was someone you picked up."
Li Qingshan raised an eyebrow: "This girl, she tells everyone everything!"
Zixia paused, then continued, "The Holy Maiden of Yaoguang, you must have picked her up on the road, right?"
As she said this, she finally turned her head and looked at Li Qingshan.
Under the moonlight, those eyes were as clear as ever, gazing at him quietly.
Li Qingshan looked at her, a slight smile playing on his lips: "So you believed it?"
Zixia didn't answer, but only asked, "Would you lie?"
Li Qingshan thought for a moment and said seriously, "Probably not. Lying is too tiring, and you have to cover it up, which is troublesome."
"That settles it then."
Zixia withdrew her gaze and looked back at the river. "So, when you said that amulet was just a trinket, I believed you."
"You said Qingchen was adopted, and I believed you. You said Yao Xi was adopted to cook for someone else, and I still believed you."
Li Qingshan didn't say anything, he just quietly fished.
The float gently touched the water's surface, creating a ripple.
After a moment of silence, Zixia suddenly spoke up: "Senior Li, there's something I've always wanted to ask you."
"you say."
"Back then by the cold river, when you gave me that amulet, was it because you understood my constitution?"
When Zixia asked that question, Ziguang stared intently at him.
Li Qingshan nodded: "Innate Dao Embryo, a rather rare physique. Although that thing isn't worth much, it should be of some use to you. I gave it to you because I noticed you seemed to be encountering some bottlenecks in your cultivation."
As Zixia listened, a string in her heart trembled slightly.
"So later in Beidou, you didn't refuse to let Qingchen cultivate with me, was that because you trusted me?"
She continued to ask.
