Chapter 105 Raising a Slime and a Baby Dragon
Deep within the dragon's nest, on the blanket.
The young dragon Vivian curled up into a ball, her small black wings covering her body, her tail wrapped around her front, and held in her arms.
She was sleeping soundly, with a little cream stain on the corner of her mouth, left from licking the cake yesterday.
Ian lay down next to her, his gelatinous body sprawled out like a dark blue hand warmer.
I've recovered a little bit of my magic power, about 5%?
In short, he can move now, unlike yesterday when he was a lump of mud.
But my mental state is still very poor. It's like I slept for a few hours after staying up all night, and I woke up, but I wasn't fully awake.
He stared at Vivian.
The young dragon breathed evenly, its chest rising and falling slightly with each breath. Its black scales shimmered faintly in the dim light, and its small horns and wings made it look like some kind of large figurine.
cute.
But Ian knew in his heart that behind this "cuteness" lay a deadly problem.
The Abyss Curse has taken effect, and currently, the individual's intelligence appears to be equivalent to that of a child.
If another crisis were to occur now, would I still be able to resolve it by being the sixth person in line?
Ian didn't know.
He reached out a tentacle and gently touched Vivian's cheek.
The scales feel slightly cool and smooth to the touch.
Vivian didn't wake up, but unconsciously rubbed against his tentacles, making a muffled gurgling sound in her throat.
Like a cat.
Ian retracted his tentacles and began to think.
curse.
This thing has appeared several times in the references. It's on Vivian's panel, and Charles mentioned it too; it seems quite complicated.
What exactly are the problems?
He didn't know the detailed settings, but judging from Vivian's sleepy appearance, there might be other side effects such as excessive sleepiness and unstable strength.
I need to ask someone.
"Charles," he called softly through his veins.
A few minutes later, the old butler appeared at the entrance to the Dragon's Nest. He had changed into clean clothes, but the weariness on his face was still evident.
"Your Excellency Ian," he bowed.
"Don't be so polite," Ian said directly. "What exactly is Lady Vivian's curse? How much do you know about it?"
Charles was silent for a few seconds, then walked to the blanket and looked down at the sleeping baby dragon.
His eyes were complex, filled with worry, helplessness, and a touch of nostalgia.
"The curse of the abyss," Charles said in a low voice. "The curse will erode the mind, distort cognition, and gradually devour life force and power."
Ian's light spot froze.
"Absorbing life force?"
"Yes," Charles nodded. "However, Lady Vivian is a black dragon with immense vitality, so the curse's effects are slow. But each attack leaves her weakened and—cognitively degraded."
He pointed to the sleeping baby dragon.
"Like now, her mind has regressed to childhood, she's lethargic, and her strength is unstable. Yesterday, she was able to instantly kill the Lava Lizard Dragon, which will accelerate the depletion of her strength and life force."
Ian understood. No wonder Vivian finished off the lizard dragon yesterday, grabbed the cake, and went straight to sleep without even glancing at it twice.
It's not that she's aloof, it's that she simply doesn't have the brainpower to think about what will happen next.
"What about the attack cycle?" Ian asked. "How long does it last? What are some ways to alleviate or stop it?"
Charles shook his head: "The cycle is unpredictable, ranging from a few days to several months. As for alleviating it—there's no good way; we can only wait for the curse to subside on its own. As for lifting it—"
He paused.
Legend has it that only by finding the water of the "Spring of Purity," combining it with the life fruit of the "Eternal Forest," and performing a purification ritual by a legendary priest, can it be possibly eradicated.
After Ian heard this, six points flashed through his mind.
A Pure Spring? An Eternal Forest? A Legendary Cleric?
This sounds like an epic quest chain in an online game where you "collect rainbow feathers, dragon tears, and angel hearts," and completing it rewards you with an orange-tier item.
"You might as well just say it's hopeless," Ian concluded.
Charles acquiesced.
The two remained silent for a while.
On the blanket, Vivian turned over, hugged Ian's tentacle to her chest, smacked her lips, and continued to sleep.
"What do we do now?" Ian asked. "With her like this, is Dragon Territory still Dragon Territory if it's missing a dragon?"
Charles looked at him, as if to say that his question was a bit tricky.
"Lord Ian, that's exactly what I wanted to say," he said. "While Lady Vivian is in a coma, the defense and decision-making of Dragon Territory will require your supervision."
The vampire thought to himself, "Anyway, I can't be bothered with it—"
Ian:
"————"
Tremendous stress.
"I'll try my best," he said, "but there are some things you'll have to help with."
"Speaking."
"First, keep it a secret," Ian said. "The fewer people who know about Vivian's curse, the better. We can tell core members like Lilith, Angry Horn, and Freckles, but for ordinary citizens—just say that the adults are sleeping or in seclusion."
Charles nodded: "Understood."
"Second, strengthen vigilance," Ian continued. "The demonic tide has just receded, but it's hard to guarantee that other forces won't take advantage of the situation. Lilith's shadow reconnaissance cannot stop, and perimeter patrols must be intensified."
"It's been arranged."
"Third—" Ian paused, "How am I supposed to take care of her?"
Charles was taken aback.
"You? Take care of—a dragon?"
"Can't I?" Ian asked back.
Charles paused for two seconds, then slowly nodded. He glanced at the baby dragon drooling over its tentacles.
Just then, Vivian woke up.
She groggily opened her golden, vertical pupils, her eyes blank, like a child just waking up. She glanced at the slime tentacles she was holding, then at Charles beside her, and finally fixed her gaze on Ian.
"Little Ian—" she said softly, with a nasal tone from just waking up.
"Yes, I'm here," Ian replied.
Vivian released the tentacles, sat up, and rubbed her eyes. She tilted her head, looked at Ian for a few seconds, and then suddenly grinned.
"Hungry," she said.
Charles immediately stepped forward: "What would you like to eat, sir? I'll prepare it right away."
Vivian thought for a moment, then stretched out her little paw and gestured.
"Cake. Sweet and soft, like the one from yesterday."
Charles looked at Ian.
Ian sighed, "The last piece was used to smear the lizard's face yesterday. We haven't made the new one yet."
Vivian's face immediately fell. Her lips pursed, and tears welled up in her golden vertical pupils.
"I want cake—" she cried, her voice trembling with tears, "the one from yesterday, it smelled so good—"
Tears were about to fall.
Ian quickly reached out his tentacle and gently patted her head: "Don't cry, don't cry, I'll do it right away. Charles, go get some flour, eggs, cream, and some sugar, the more the better."
Charles accepted the order and left.
Vivian sniffed, holding back her tears. She grabbed Ian's tentacle, hugged it to her chest, and stared longingly at the entrance to the dragon's nest, waiting for the cake.
Ian was held in her arms and couldn't move, so he could only wait.
A few minutes later, Charles returned carrying a tray.
He handed it to Ian and then left the dragon's nest.
The top isn't cake; it's a bowl of paste.
Flour, eggs, butter, and sugar are simply mixed and cooked, barely qualifying as "vampire-themed baby food".
Ian almost fainted when he saw it; what the hell was this culinary monstrosity?!
You might as well just pour strawberry milk directly onto the cake; that would probably be much better.
