That's right, that's what adventure is like!
Chapter 120 Farewell
Chapter 120 Farewell
Echo Antique Shop
Roland stood in front of old Ero, watching him take off his gold-plated glasses, slowly wipe them clean, and repeat his needs once again.
"I want to acquire a large number of antiques, regardless of type or age. The only requirement is that they all have a story behind them."
Old Ero paused for a moment, the dim light illuminating his wrinkled face, his eyes gleaming with a strange light.
“Young man, we’ve dealt with each other a few times,” he said slowly, “but I must say, you are the most passionate about stories of all our customers.”
"Especially since you are an adventurer."
Roland understood what he meant.
This is an advice to him to use his gold coins as much as possible to improve his combat power, since antiques can only be regarded as a personal hobby and are of no help to his adventure.
However, he had already confirmed this plan, so naturally he wouldn't change it.
Seeing the determined light in his eyes, old Ero sighed and shook his head slightly: "Alright, you've proven that you value these things enough, I won't refuse—come with me."
He turned and walked toward the perpetually half-closed wooden door deep inside the shop, raising a cloud of fine dust that floated in the air as he pushed it open.
"Let's make this clear first: there are discounts for bulk orders, but don't expect me to sell at a loss."
Roland followed and stepped into the storage room behind the door.
The space was much larger than it appeared from the outside, with all sorts of wooden shelves piled up on the walls, filled with a dazzling array of old objects.
A rusty bronze mirror, yellowed and curled ancient books, wooden pieces of unknown purpose, a cracked bone dagger—and even a few stone slabs carved with indistinct runes.
"You choose for yourself." Old Ero leaned against the doorframe, lit a slender pipe, and said, "I'll settle the bill with you after you've chosen."
Roland didn't stand on ceremony.
He entered the storage room, his gaze sweeping over the countless words "extractable," while simultaneously activating his Spellmark Vision.
The remaining magic within the various ancient artifacts began to flicker, some as bright as candlelight, others as faint as fireflies, guiding him in the right direction.
He first picked out a few items with the richest luster; these items had extraordinary effects, like finding lost coins, and he was sure to make a profit.
Next, he examined as many items as possible to see what skills they extracted, looking for extremely powerful or exceptionally rare skills.
This matter was not as simple as Roland had thought. He had never even heard of most of the abilities, and he couldn't even deduce the skill classifications based on the literal meaning of the words. He could only rely on his intuition to find them.
The only good thing is that he came prepared for a long battle and was willing to "waste" his time here.
It lasted a full eleven hours.
The antique shop closed and reopened, and after old Ero had taken a nap and had breakfast, he finally achieved his goal.
Inside the storage room, Roland straightened up and stretched his stiff shoulders.
His fingers were covered in dust, and his clothes were stained with layers of dirt, but when his eyes swept over the small pile of carefully selected items in front of him, a hint of satisfaction showed through his fatigue.
There are a total of seventy-one items.
There are palm-sized bronze fragments with blurred animal patterns etched on the edges; there are forearm-length bone pendants made of materials resembling the fangs of some wild beast; there are badges so rusted that the patterns are almost unrecognizable; and there are parchment pieces burned down to only one-third of their original size, with eerily clear ink marks.
Each and every one of them is the result of careful selection.
Old Ero, carrying a cup of hot tea, slowly walked over, glanced down at the pile of antiques, and his lips twitched slightly.
"This deal of yours is the biggest one I've done in the last ten years."
Roland smiled but remained silent.
Through some details, he could tell that old Elro was not as ordinary as he seemed, and must have seen a lot.
These days, it's just a joke among acquaintances.
Just as Roland had guessed, although old Eiro said he wouldn't offer any special discounts, he only glanced at the package before casually giving a quote.
"1300 gold coins, no bargaining, I know you can definitely afford it."
Roland could certainly afford it, and even have the means to buy more items, but there was no need for it.
He carefully calculated the weight of the items he could carry, deducting the items he already carried, the medicines, props, and miscellaneous items he needed to buy later, and the space for improvisation.
The dimensional bag can only hold 200 pounds of the extracted items.
The pile of items I've selected weighs exactly 270 pounds, and some of them need to be carried in a bag, which is already at its limit.
Moreover, once you arrive in Baron Union, you can always find similar antique shops with a little effort, so there's no need to take too much with you here.
After readily paying the gold coins, Roland thanked old Eiro, saying, "If I can come back, I will definitely come back to your place again."
""
Old Ero waved his hand and sighed softly, "It's a real shame. I'm afraid that once you leave, this antique shop will only have those old customers left again."
He looked up, his gaze falling on the lost coin on Roland's chest: "I think you should still remember the story behind this coin?"
Roland nodded; he was deeply impressed by the knight's story.
"That's good," old Ero said, taking a sip of tea. "I hope you remember this story, and the emotions within it."
"The path to the extraordinary is very lonely. You will lose many things: possessions, friends, the past—but the most unforgettable thing is what you first felt from the story."
"These old things, like me," he said calmly, his gaze sweeping over the mountain of items, "each has its own story, its own emotions."
"These emotions are the very essence that you, as an extraordinary being, must never abandon on your adventure."
Roland listened quietly.
As he approached his departure, he could sense that many people were giving him advice, which was a summary of their own experiences and also their expectations for him.
This shows that he wasn't doing too badly in Duanyan Town.
The morning light streamed through the stained-glass windows high above, illuminating the floating dust particles in the air and giving them a golden glow.
Roland put away the last item and bowed slightly, saying, "Thank you for taking care of me during this time. I will remember your words."
.
Old Ero smiled gently, the smile spreading across his wrinkles like a pebble dropped into calm water.
"Go."
He raised his arm and gently patted Roland's shoulder; his hand was thin but strong, bringing an unexpected warmth.
"When you return from your adventure, don't forget to bring me an item that belongs to you. I want to see what kind of story you have, and what kind of emotions are hidden within it."
Roland nodded and turned to walk towards the door.
Beams of sunlight streamed down from the stained-glass windows, and countless golden particles formed a path in front of me, leading to the heavy oak door.
Just like the first time he came here.
