Chapter 53. The Giant, the Tin Pig
Chapter 53. The Giant, the Tin Pig
This pig is too big.
Its shoulder height was probably six or seven feet, and its body length, including its tail, must have been about three or four feet!
Its entire body was covered in coarse, stiff, blackish-brown bristles, stained with mud and resin, which gleamed greasy in the dim light. Its neck was as thick as the trunk of an old tree, connecting to an enormous head.
What's most terrifying are its pair of upward-curving fangs, which are probably as long as an adult's forearm, with tips that gleam with a chilling yellowish-white light in the reflection of the snow.
Its fangs were covered in scratches and grime, having torn apart the flesh of countless enemies.
Its body was round and plump, and as it walked, its heavy body seemed to make the ground sink slightly.
Its limbs are short and thick, but exceptionally sturdy. With each step, it leaves a hoofprint several inches deep in the snow.
Goodness gracious, I've never seen such a big pig before.
The wild boar we hunted last time looked like a little girl next to it.
Su Ming estimated that this wild boar weighed more than 1,500 jin!
It might even be close to two thousand kilograms!
But this guy doesn't look fat or clumsy at all; instead, he's all muscle, thick and strong.
This isn't a wild boar; it's a moving mountain of flesh, a living killing machine clad in bone spike armor!
"Can pigs really look like this?" Su Meng was increasingly surprised as she looked.
The so-called "giant wild boar" I saw in the zoo in my previous life was nothing compared to this one, which was simply a docile domestic pig!
He had seen the wolf king, which was over three meters long, a truly terrifying sight.
Compared to the visual impact of the wild boar's "width" and "thickness," even the wolf king looks "slender"!
This is simply a prehistoric behemoth!
Su Mingyuan called him the Pig King.
The wild boar did not seem to have noticed Su Ming hiding in the tree.
It walked with unhurried yet imposing steps to the edge of that small swamp.
First, it rolled around happily in the mud at the edge of the swamp, making its already thick mud armor even thicker, and even covering itself with iron filings, making a comfortable "humming" sound.
He shook himself off, getting rid of all the mud, leaving only the slightly rough iron filings clinging to his body. Once dry, they became layers of iron filings that clung tightly to his skin.
I don’t know if it’s the effect of the iron filings, but its body even emits a dark, pale light in the sunlight, like a layer of iron armor.
Then, it swayed its huge body and came to the cliff where Su Ming had found the iron ore. It used its rough, armor-like back to lean against the loose cliff and rubbed itself comfortably, getting more iron fragments on its back.
I reckon these iron scraps will stick to my body in the future, increasing my defense.
"Splash—" More gravel and dirt were scraped down by it.
After rubbing against it enough, it walked to a few shrubs with a few dried fruits hanging on them. With its terrifying fangs, it easily pushed aside the snow, uprooted the shrubs, opened its big mouth, and chewed up the roots, fruits, and leaves all at once, making a tooth-grinding "crunch" sound.
Having eaten and drunk its fill, it seemed to be in a good mood, leisurely strolling around the area, occasionally nudging the ground with its nose or sniffing the air.
From beginning to end, it never looked up at the pine tree where Su Ming was hiding.
Su Ming lay motionless on the tree, slowing his breathing and suppressing his heartbeat.
Fine beads of cold sweat appeared on his forehead.
It wasn't fear, but rather a frantic warning signal from a biological instinct when faced with an absolute disparity in strength!
In other words, his body's instincts were screaming at him that this huge guy was extremely dangerous!
Su Ming's gaze swept quickly over the pine tree where he was hiding.
The trunk is as thick as a water bucket and can be considered sturdy.
But looking at the enormous beast below and its terrifying fangs—
Su Ming had no doubt that if the wild boar really spotted him and charged, the pine tree would probably break in half after just a few impacts!
Even if he wasn't pierced by the fangs, falling down would likely be disastrous!
Bow and arrow?
He carried only an ordinary hunting bow, with a force of less than one stone, and the arrows were not "heart-piercing arrows".
It might be able to deal with ordinary wild beasts, but against this boar king covered in thick mud armor, with bristles like steel needles and skin so thick and tough, it would probably be difficult to even pierce its skin. Instead, it would only completely enrage this ferocious beast.
A broadsword?
Close combat?
Su Ming glanced at the wild boar's thick neck and estimated that even if he slashed at it with all his might, it would be a problem if he could even break through the thick layer of mud and bristles, let alone injure any vital organs.
If one were even grazed by those fangs, or struck squarely by that massive body, they would instantly suffer broken bones and torn tendons.
We can't beat them!
We absolutely cannot win!
Su Ming made a clear judgment in an instant.
This is no longer a gap that courage and skill can bridge; it's an all-around crushing defeat in terms of size, weight, and defense!
He wasn't afraid of ordinary wild boars.
But this wild boar is nothing like an ordinary one!
He was incredibly grateful that he had reacted quickly, climbed the tree immediately, and used the "Tibetan flavor powder."
Fortunately, the pig king's attention seemed to be drawn to the swamp and iron ore cliffs, and it did not explore its surroundings carefully.
He could only wait.
Wait for the terrifying beast to leave on its own.
Time passed slowly, and every minute and second felt incredibly long.
The Pig King had had his fill of fun below and seemed finally satisfied.
It shook its enormous head, let out a loud, pungent snort, and then began to walk slowly toward the depths of the Great Chong Mountain.
The heavy footsteps gradually faded into the distance, eventually disappearing into the depths of the dense forest, until even the slight tremor of the ground could no longer be felt.
After waiting for a full quarter of an hour, until he was sure that the pig king was really far away, Su Ming finally let out a long, slow breath that had been stuck in his chest. He felt that the clothes on his back were soaked with cold sweat and clung to his skin.
He carefully slid down the tree, and when he landed, his legs felt a little weak.
Looking back in the direction where the Pig King disappeared, and then at the iron ore cliff that the Pig King had rubbed against and which was now littered with even more rubble, Su Ming's expression was incredibly complex.
Shock, lingering fear, sudden realization, and an almost uncontrollable burning sensation.
"The old wound on the wolf king's leg—" he murmured, the image of the gruesome scar on the silver-white wolf king's left hind leg flashing through his mind.
A wound deep enough to expose the bone.
Su Dalu said that it was caused by "wild boar tusks".
At the time, he was still skeptical. What kind of wild boar could hurt such a terrifying wolf king?
Now, he believes it.
If it were that gigantic pig king from before, then everything would make sense.
Only a mountain overlord of this caliber could completely drive the wolf pack, which included the Silver Wolf King and more than twenty vicious wolves, out of the Great Mountains, forcing them to roam and hunt only on the outskirts of the Lesser Mountains, and even to the point of attacking villages and carrying away children when they were starving.
He had been wondering how such a huge wolf king could be forced out by a pig, but now that he had seen the pig, he just thought the wolf king was awesome.
—He didn't die, he just injured his leg!
"As expected of the Pig King who can drive away the wolves—" Su Ming licked his dry lips, his eyes showing no fear but instead burning with a fierce fighting spirit.
"This weight is more than two or three thousand catties—every part of it is a treasure!"
"I'll definitely give it a try next time I have the chance, to see if I can get my hands on this big guy!"
He knew that in his current state, facing the Pig King, he could only run for his life.
But that doesn’t stop him from seeing it as a goal.
Hunters should aspire to hunt the most powerful prey.
Composing himself, Su Ming didn't delay any longer.
He quickly returned to the large rock where he had placed the stalk of meat, tied the blood-drained stalk to a wooden stick to make a simple snow sled, carefully checked it again to make sure there were no obvious traces related to the iron ore, then identified the direction and started his journey home towards Sishui Village.
The mountains and forests were silent, and a snowstorm was about to begin. Su Ming returned home from the Great Snow Mountain.
