The police dragged Ma Wencai out. Ma Wencai's feet dragged on the ground for a couple of steps before he suddenly howled like a pig being slaughtered, making the whole corridor buzz.

"Brother-in-law! Brother-in-law, please save me! You can't let them take me away, brother-in-law!"

Sima Bin stood at the back of the crowd, his face ashen, his cheeks bulging from being clenched.

His eyes darted around a few times, then he took a deep breath, his expression changing from ashen to heartbroken, like a Sichuan opera face-changing act.

"Ma Wencai, what can I say about you?"

Sima Bin said in a tone of disappointment, "You dare to embezzle company property?"

"Return those two pig legs, rice, oil, and eggs—how much of them did you take? Try to get some leniency!"

Sima Bin sighed inwardly. How could he have such a stupid brother-in-law?

Two rotten pig legs and a few dozen kilograms of rice—how much is that worth? If you're craving something, why don't you just buy it yourself? It's not worth letting someone use this against you!

With things having escalated to this point, and with so many people in front of him, he felt too embarrassed to insist on making money.

If he tries to force his way in, what will others think of him as a section chief?

Hearing his brother-in-law say this, Ma Wencai became even more anxious, his face turning pale and then contorted in pain.

"I didn't steal it! Brother-in-law, don't listen to their nonsense!"

"They're framing me! I bought it myself!"

His voice was shrill and urgent, and he insisted that he hadn't stolen anything.

He knew that once he confessed, it would be the end of it! Once he confessed, it wouldn't be an internal matter for his work unit anymore; with a statement from the police, not even the Emperor himself could get him out of there.

Sima Bin glanced at him but didn't say anything more, as if to say that if he admitted it, he could be treated leniently, but if he didn't, there was nothing he could do.

But Ma Wencai couldn't understand it; he didn't care about anything else and just kept crying out for justice.

The square-faced policeman glanced at Sima Bin, then at Ma Wencai, and whispered to his two colleagues beside him, instructing them to make another trip.

Ma Wencai's house still needs to be searched; it would be best to catch the thief red-handed.

Seeing the two policemen leave, Ma Wencai's heart skipped a beat, but he quickly reassured himself that the food was all gone, so what could the police possibly find?

"Go ahead and search, search all you want. If you find anything, I'll twist my head off and let you kick it around like a football!"

He stiffened his neck and shouted at the police, his voice still trembling, but he sounded more confident.

After he finished shouting, he turned to look at Sima Bin, his face full of pleading, his voice trembling with tears.

"Brother-in-law, please talk to them and ask them not to take me to the police station."

"Can't we handle this internally? Why don't you say something to them...?"

He wasn't afraid of the police; what he feared was being in the police station, in the interrogation room, sitting on an iron chair for a day or two. He didn't know how long he could endure it.

Before Sima Bin could respond, the police officer let out a cold laugh.

"Things were stolen from inside the railway police station, and you, the one with the keys, think you can get away with it? We'll treat you to a good meal when you get back to the police station!"

Ma Wencai was being held up by two policemen, his legs slumped on the ground. Just as he was about to be dragged out of the canteen, he suddenly jolted and turned his head sharply.

"Brother-in-law! You have to save me! You can't just stand by and watch me die!"

"I've done so much for you, I even gave you my wife, you can't just abandon me!"

The entire cafeteria seemed to have been put on pause.

Everyone stopped moving; the sounds of talking and discussion vanished in an instant.

Sister Wu's mouth was wide open, and she couldn't close it for a long time.

Aunt Song, supporting Ma Wencai's wife, forgot to let go, her hand frozen in place.

Monkey King leaned against the wall, slowly straightened up, and twitched his lips, wanting to laugh but not actually doing so.

Xiao Lü and Xiao Yu exchanged a glance, their eyes conveying the same meaning—did they hear that right?

A buzzing sound arose in the cafeteria, starting with quiet murmurs and whispers, gradually growing louder and louder.

Some people just open their mouths without making a sound, using lip movements to express "what does that mean?"

Someone glanced at Sima Bin, then quickly looked away.

Some people looked at Ma Wencai, then at Ma Wencai's wife, and then at Sima Bin, their eyes darting back and forth between the group, unable to keep up with the surroundings.

Sima Bin's face immediately changed, turning from ashen to deathly pale.

He suddenly took two steps forward, pointed at Ma Wencai, and his voice changed, sounding both anxious and angry.

"What nonsense are you spouting! I'm your brother-in-law!"

"What nonsense are you spouting! Have you lost your mind?"

Ma Wencai's wife looked confused and bewildered, frowning as she looked at Ma Wencai and then at Sima Bin, not understanding what her husband meant.

Ma Wencai shrank back when his brother-in-law yelled at him, but he kept talking, his face covered in tears and snot.

"Brother-in-law, you can't abandon me! If you don't help me, no one else will! Didn't you say—"

Sima Bin slapped him across the face.

"Are you crazy! I'm your brother-in-law!"

As she spoke, she frantically winked at him.

Chang Kun looked at Sima Bin's face, which turned pale and then red, and felt not much schadenfreude, but rather found it amusing.

Ma Wencai is truly a talented individual; now, only Sima Bin can save him.

Even if we can't get him out of the police station, at least we can make him more comfortable inside and less miserable.

But he was afraid his brother-in-law wouldn't help him, so afraid that he even said such things, which would drag Sima Bin down with him.

What a terrible teammate!

Judging from Ma Wencai's words, his relationship with Sima Bin is more than just that of brother-in-law and brother-in-law.

The two have even more unspeakable secrets.

Ma Wencai was dragged to the entrance of the canteen, his hands clinging tightly to the door frame. The two policemen tried to pull him down but couldn't, and they didn't want to force him, for fear of breaking his fingers.

"Brother-in-law! You can't let them take me away!"

"I don't want to go to jail! I don't want to go to the interrogation room!"

Ma Wencai's hoarse voice has become so hoarse from shouting that he's practically splitting his legs.

"I'm the only son in our Ma family!"

"If anything happens to me, the Ma family line will end! My sister won't forgive you!"

Sima Bin stood at the back of the crowd, his expression changing repeatedly. He winked at Ma Wencai and his lips moved slightly, as if he were mouthing "shut up."

Ma Wencai suddenly turned ferocious, and blood vessels burst from his eyes.

"If you don't save me, you're definitely planning to silence me and then take my wife for yourself, aren't you?!"

"Fine!! Then I won't keep it from you anymore!"

"You give me sleeping pills so I can secretly give them to my wife, and then you sneak over to my house in the middle of the night so we can both have sex with her. I've lost count of how many times this has happened..."

It felt like the air had been sucked out of the cafeteria.

Everyone held their breath; even the ticking of the wall clock seemed abrupt.

After a long while, a buzzing sound broke through the ceiling.

"What the hell?!"

"What...what did I just hear?"

"Ah! My ears!!"

"Damn it! You can do that?"

"This is truly eye-opening! I've really seen something amazing today!"

Some of the women, in particular, looked angry and ashamed. How could they possibly listen to such words? They were simply unbearable to hear!

Just thinking about that scene makes me tremble!
