Back in Yu Chen's courtyard, as soon as they entered the house and closed the door, he pulled her in front of him and looked down at her face.

He recounted everything that happened in the pavilion in detail.

Su Wuli felt a little guilty under his gaze and lowered her head to stare at the tips of her shoes.

"She just came over and said a few words to me."

She paused, went over those words in her mind, and said only what she could say.

"She said she had nowhere to go and wanted to stay in the manor, crying and saying she would do anything for him..." Her voice trailed off as she spoke, "and then when you came over, she tripped and fell down."

Yu Chen shifted his gaze from her face, scanned her from top to bottom, and then returned it to her face.

"Did I run into you?" The man's voice lowered.

Su Wuli raised her head and looked into his unfathomable eyes. "No."

Yu Chen didn't reply, but reached out and pulled her into his arms.

Her face was pressed against his chest, and his hand covered her head.

Then a man sighed softly, "He didn't even know how to fight back when he was being bullied."

His voice carried a hint of disapproval.

Su Wuli nestled in his arms and mumbled, "I...I'm just not used to it."

She never imagined she would face such a situation one day.

But after today, she suddenly realized that she had been ignoring a problem.

That was Yu Chen's identity; in the dynasty he lived in, monogamy was impossible.

"Not used to it?" He gently stroked her head with his large hand.

"Hmm," she responded listlessly.

He lifted his head from his chest and looked down at his chin.

Suddenly, I realized that all of this was because of him.

Whether it's Gu Mingyuan or Shen Yier.

They're all here because of him; I've just been dragged into this mess.

Su Wuli couldn't help but tilt her head back and glare at him.

"It's all your fault." Her voice wasn't loud, but it carried a clear accusation.

He noticed her brow furrow slightly.

Su Wuli felt guilty for a moment under his gaze, but quickly regained her confidence.

"If you weren't so flirtatious, why would she come looking for trouble with me? I'm being targeted for no reason, and it's all because of your romantic entanglements."

The more she talked, the more convinced she felt she was in the right, and her voice rose a few decibels.

"I did nothing; I'm just a victim."

"It was my fault," Yu Chen pulled her closer to him, "I've wronged you."

Su Wuli buried her face in his chest and didn't reply.

He waited a moment, then gently lifted her chin with his fingertip.

Su Wuli lifted her head from his chest.

He opened his mouth and asked, "Are you angry?"

Upon hearing this, Su Wuli was taken aback.

Thinking he was talking about Shen Yi'er, he immediately shook his head, "No, she just cried a little, she didn't touch me."

As soon as he finished speaking, the man's brow twitched.

He seemed somewhat displeased.

He changed his hand to pinch her chin, lifting her face slightly.

His gaze fell on her face, deep and heavy.

"Gu Mingyuan has practically delivered a woman to me," the voice asked in a deep tone. "Aren't you angry?"

Upon hearing this, Su Wuli opened her mouth, but hesitated to speak.

It wasn't that she wasn't angry, it's just that everything happened so fast that she didn't even have time to get angry before Yu Chen threw her into the pool.

It seemed she didn't need to do anything anymore; the fire went out before it even had a chance to produce smoke.

Su Wuli looked at him and shook her head.

But as soon as he finished speaking, his gaze darkened.

Seeing this, Su Wuli's heart suddenly tightened, and she raised her hand to touch his face.

"What's with that expression?" she asked. "You're unhappy even though I'm not angry?"

Yu Chen didn't speak, but held her hand that was pressed against his face.

"Yeah, I'm not happy."

Upon hearing this, Su Wuli was stunned, and her breath caught in her throat for a moment.

His jawline was taut, his Adam's apple bobbed, and his voice was deep and resonant.

He gently rubbed his fingertips against the back of her hand. "Am I really that unimportant to you?"

Su Wuli paused, lowered her head, and buried her face in his chest.

"What? You want to see us fight over you?" Her voice was muffled inside his collar.

"No," Yu Chen explained, "those people are not qualified to stand on the same level as you."

Su Wuli raised her hand and put it on the man's arm, pinching him through his clothes.

But his arms were so strong that it felt like tickling him.

Su Wuli, unwilling to accept defeat, slapped him instead, "I'm angry."

"Huh?" Yu Chen seemed not to have heard clearly.

"Where we live, it's a monogamous system," Su Wuli glanced at Yu Chen, then continued, "Unlike here, you can have concubines."

As soon as he finished speaking, Yu Chen lowered his head and pressed his lips to the top of her head.

He removed his hand from the back of her hand, wrapped his arms around her waist, and pulled her into his embrace.

She pressed herself against him, her arms wrapped around his narrow waist.

"I don't want anyone else," Yu Chen said in a low voice, with a solemn tone.

"Next time," he said, leaning down and whispering in her ear, "just say it if you're angry."

"I understand," Su Wuli replied. "But you can't call me a shrew."

As soon as she finished speaking, she heard the man chuckle softly.

"You're still laughing." She looked up and glared at him again.

He didn't stop smiling, and reached out to pinch her cheek.

Su Wuli slapped his hand away.

He didn't flinch; instead, he wrapped his other arm around her waist and pulled her into his embrace.

She struggled for a moment, but when she couldn't break free, she stopped.

Yu Chen lowered his head, his gaze slowly moving across her eyes and brows.

It was as if they were checking to make sure she hadn't been wronged, or if there was anything missing about her.

"If someone causes you trouble in the future, you don't have to put up with it."

The voice was low and slow, and each word was clear.

"In this king's residence, you are also a master. If you don't like someone, just kick them out."

His fingers gently brushed against her waist. "I will cover for you."

Su Wuli met his gaze, then lowered her head and buried her face in his chest.

He listened sullenly and said, "Okay."

His heartbeat came from his chest, strong and steady.

A few stray hairs escaped from her hair bun and clung to her neck, swaying gently in the breeze from the man's breath.

He reached out and tucked a few stray hairs behind his ear.

Su Wuli instinctively shrank back, and his hand stopped on her earlobe.

"If someone cries in front of you again, just watch them cry. Once they've cried enough, let them have some water to soothe their throats."

Su Wuli lifted her head from his chest, instinctively realizing something.

He probably meant drinking water, not tea.

"What kind of terrible idea is this?"

"It's not a bad idea." He gently rubbed her earlobe with his hand. "As long as it works."

Su Wuli opened her mouth, wanting to refute but unable to come up with a rebuttal.

It seems... it really works.

She lowered her head and buried her face back in his chest, her nose brushing against his collarbone through his clothes.

Yu Chen suddenly paused in his breathing, his voice becoming a little hoarse, "Trying to freeload again."
