Zhou Xuchen slowly began to explain:

"Recently... I've heard some rumors about Wei Hua."

"Rumor has it that I transferred her to the lab twice to participate in projects because of Commander Lu's connections, not because of Lu Weihua's actual talent and ability."

Lu Weidong's brows furrowed instantly.

He has always hated this kind of thing.

Gossip is more poisonous than bullets; it kills without drawing blood.

Born into such a high-ranking official's family, he had seen it all from childhood to adulthood.

Zhou Xuchen stood up, placed the lunchbox on the radiator, turned around and said, "If you trust me, leave this matter to me."

Lu Weidong was silent for two seconds, then looked up at him: "What do you plan to do?"

He reached out and gently adjusted his glasses, and Zhou Xuchen smiled.

His smile was refined and scholarly, with a touch of intellectual charm.

Yet his eyes were calm and wise, as if he could see through people's hearts.

"I've investigated," he began, speaking at a measured pace. "While I don't know the exact source of the rumors, I'm certain that they weren't started by my labmates or staff."

Zhou Xuchen's gaze swept across the window: "They all know Wei Hua's abilities and character very well, and it was two of them who heard the rumors and took the initiative to tell me about this."

"Oh?" Lu Weidong hadn't expected this, raising an eyebrow slightly. "Looks like I was overthinking it."

"No." Zhou Xuchen shook his head, his gaze slightly darkening. "Since the rumors have already spread and Wei Hua is troubled by them, I will take this matter seriously and handle it."

He leaned forward slightly, placing his hands clasped on his knees: "However..."

Zhou Xuchen raised his eyes, his gaze behind his glasses clear and sharp. "The reason I didn't go to find the source is that if I stepped in to suppress it, it would only deepen other people's suspicion and estrangement."

Zhou Xuchen smiled slightly: "So, instead of finding the source and reprimanding him, it's better to give Wei Hua a chance to show his strength."

Lu Weidong smiled and looked at Zhou Xuchen, inwardly agreeing.

He smiled, then stood up:

"I'm sorry, Director Zhou, I was being presumptuous. Now that you have a plan, I won't say anything more."

Zhou Xuchen smiled calmly, not taking it to heart at all: "It's nothing, I understand how you feel. Don't worry, I'll handle this."

"Okay, I'm off then."

After saying goodbye to Zhou Xuchen, Lu Weidong returned to his office.

After pushing open the door, his gaze fell on the table, where the box of dumplings remained.

Lu Weidong frowned slightly.

He walked to the table, picked up the phone, and dialed the landline next door.

"Feed?" Su Feng answered the phone.

"Come here."

"Chief of Staff Lu, it's only a short distance, why did you have to make this call?"

"Come here quickly."

Lu Weidong hung up the phone after saying that.

I heard the sound of a door opening next door, followed by a knock.

Su Feng pushed open the door and came in, dressed in military uniform. He looked at Lu Weidong and asked, "What's up?"

Lu Weidong looked up at him: "Is it disrespectful to a superior officer?"

Su Feng turned his head, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath.

He turned around again, stood at attention, and snapped to attention with a crisp military salute: "Chief of Staff Lu, what brings you here?"

Lu Weidong grinned, showing his big teeth: "Here, take the dumplings, they're from my mom."

Su Feng clenched his fist: "That gift just now was for my aunt."

He picked up the lunchbox and turned to leave.

"Come back!" Lu Weidong called out to him. "Have you finished those reports I asked you to write?"

Su Feng ignored him, instead placing the dumplings on the radiator in his office and calling out, "We'll have to wait two more days."

Lu Weidong strode over and stood at the door:

"Wasn't this something I gave instructions for before the Lunar New Year?"

"How many heads do I have? I don't have time right now," Su Feng said, looking annoyed.

"Hey Section Chief Su, your attitude and work efficiency are not good enough," Lu Weidong said, glancing at Su Feng's desk, which showed no signs of written reports.

Lu Weidong raised an eyebrow slightly: "Did you hand this matter over to Fang Ruijun?"

"X" Su Feng cursed inwardly, thinking that the guess was pretty damn accurate.

Seeing his expression, Lu Weidong chuckled twice: "I knew it, it works too."

"How is Fang Ruijun recovering now?" Ye Wenxi asked Wang Yingxue, leaning closer.

Wang Yingxue didn't answer. She turned her head to look at her watch, then at the doorway.

Around 3 p.m., after Ye Wenxi took a nap, he called her home, saying he had something to discuss with her.

Seeing that Wang Yingxue remained silent, Ye Wenxi nudged her again: "I'm asking you, what are you doing staring at the door all the time?"

Wang Yingxue looked away and swallowed: "I'm recovering quite well. I've started working from home recently."

"Huh? He's started working? Is he capable of doing it?"

"It's just writing reports at home. A few days ago, Section Chief Su came to my house and gave him some documents, asking him to organize them when he had time. They're all things like training plans and summary reports, and I don't really understand them."
