Fang Ruijun wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, pressing his face against her neck: "Are you tired?"

A gentle smile appeared on Wang Yingxue's face.

"Not tired at all." She gently placed her hand on the large hands that were wrapped around her waist, and then a sigh was heard.

Wang Yingxue frowned slightly and turned around.

"You're doing this again."

Fang Ruijun lowered his eyes, hiding his bitter expression in the shadows of his eyelashes.

"If you keep doing this, I'll get angry." A hint of anger appeared between Wang Yingxue's brows.

Fang Ruijun cupped Wang Yingxue's face in his hands and smiled, but the smile seemed somewhat forced.

"Not tired at all? You call this hardship? This is just normal work." Wang Yingxue removed the large hands from her face, a hint of annoyance in her eyes. "Besides, that's Wenxi Garment Company! So many people want to get in but can't."

The hardship Fang Ruijun mentioned was not the depletion of physical strength and energy.

Wang Yingxue feels that her current work and life are fulfilling and satisfying.

But in Fang Ruijun's view, the entire burden of the family rests on her shoulders.

No matter how much she denies it, the facts are the facts.

He can't work, at least not like he used to.

In this family, there are two elderly people and a sick person. Wang Yingxue supports everything inside and out.

Although the allowance was still being paid as usual, Fang Ruijun was more worried about the uncertainty of the future.

Fang Ruijun felt a tightness in his chest whenever he thought about this.

Wang Yingxue pulled Fang Ruijun's hand, her face showing slight annoyance.

"Why don't you believe me?" she asked with a smile. "I feel... incredibly happy right now."

"You rest, I'll go help Mom cook."

Fang Ruijun hummed in agreement. He sat on the edge of the bed, listening to the chattering of the three people in the kitchen.

"Knock knock knock".

The knocking sounded, unhurried, three times.

Fang Ruijun glanced at the clock on the wall; it was 6 p.m., Su Feng should be here by now.

He then got up to open the door.

Wang Yingxue had already run out of the kitchen, still wearing her apron, wiping her hands on it a couple of times, before opening the door.

"Section Chief Su," Wang Yingxue said with a smile, then stepped aside. "Come in, come in! Put on your slippers."

Su Feng, dressed in a crisp military uniform and carrying a bulging brown paper document bag, stamped the snow off his feet at the door and bent down to change his shoes.

"Auntie, Xiaoxue, Happy New Year." Su Feng peeked into the kitchen first and greeted Zhao Chunfang and Han Yulan.

Fang Ruijun then slowly made his way from inside the house to the living room.

The tone of his voice when he said, "Section Chief, you're here," was not particularly enthusiastic.

Su Feng looked him up and down, then smiled and said, "Did you get hit by frost?"

(A Northeastern Chinese proverb: an eggplant that has been hit by frost has wilted.)

Then he turned to the kitchen and said, "Xiaoxue, Auntie, I won't be able to help. I need to talk to Fang Ruijun about some work. Can I use your bedroom for a bit?"

"Okay, go ahead!" Wang Yingxue waved the spatula.

"No rush, we can eat whenever we finish talking. The food is still a long way off."

Su Feng gently patted Fang Ruijun's shoulder: "Let's go."

Fang Ruijun was a little confused.

Job? What kind of job can he do?

The two entered the bedroom, and Su Feng closed the door behind him, slamming the brown paper document bag onto the table with a dull thud.

He untied the drawstring of the bag, pulled out three or four folders with a snap, plopped down in the chair in front of the desk, and stretched out his long legs.

"Sigh... Although your situation is rather special right now, it's quite urgent, so I can only ask you to rise to the challenge."

Fang Ruijun reached out and picked up the top document.

The document header features a line of bold text: "Summary of the Winter Mountain Training Program for Special Operations of the 39th Military Region Army".

He flipped to the second document—"Tactical Exercise Plan for the First Quarter of 1980".

The third document is the "Draft Evaluation of Extreme Physical Fitness Test for Special Forces New Recruits".

Fang Ruijun looked up at Su Feng: "Section Chief, what's going on here...?"

"Write it." Su Feng raised his chin.

Su Feng reached into the file folder and pulled out a few pages of handwritten manuscript, then slapped them on the table:

"I really don't have time to deal with these things, I'm counting on you."

Su Feng tapped his fingers on the table: "One is a summary of last winter's training camp, another is the training plan after this year's Spring Festival, and this..."

He pulled out the thickest document, "This was sent down by Chief of Staff Lu before the Lunar New Year. He asked me to prepare a simulation report on emergency response after the snow disaster and analyze our rapid response capabilities under extreme weather conditions."

After saying this, Su Feng let out a heavy breath and composed himself.

"As you know, the training is intense right now. I also have to lead the team, write reports, make plans, and conduct analyses..." Su Feng rarely showed signs of fatigue, and he rubbed his temples.

"I don't know what Lu Weidong was thinking. He assigned me more than ten pieces of material before the New Year. There's no way I could possibly write them all."

Fang Ruijun's lips twitched involuntarily.

These two are at it again.

"Look at this," Su Feng said, pulling out the top training plan. "This piece of junk is just a bunch of stuff. You just write down a name and set up a framework, and you sit in the room all day. How many days do I have? Those kids on the training field are waiting for me."

He pushed the document in front of Fang Ruijun: "You're most familiar with this. You participated in the entire winter training camp last year, so you know the tactical details, personnel configuration, and physical limits better than I do. Build up the first draft at home, and I'll add to it later."

After saying that, he pushed the document forward again.

"What about time?" he asked.

Su Feng took out a pen from his pocket and quickly marked on the document cover: "This is the most urgent, give it to me in five days. The analysis report for this training plan can be extended to ten days, within a week."

After he finished writing, he looked up at Fang Ruijun and asked, "Is this okay?"

Fang Ruijun didn't answer, but looked down at his left hand and then at the thick pile of documents on the table.

Su Feng noticed his gaze and his voice deepened: "I'm asking if you can handle the workload, I'm afraid of putting too much pressure on you. If your hand... is inconvenient, you can dictate and have someone write it down for you."

Fang Ruijun suddenly laughed.

"Section Chief, I'm fine."

Su Feng grinned at him.

After he finished speaking heavily, he slapped Fang Ruijun's thigh and let out a long sigh of relief:

"I've been so worried these past few days, but thank goodness you're here for me."

"Let's go out and see what delicious food they've prepared."

He opened the door and went into the kitchen:

"Auntie, Xiaoxue, we're done talking."

"What delicious food did you make today?"

"Wow! Knife fish? It smells delicious... I love eating this the most."

"Fang Ruijun! Come out, wash your hands, and eat!"

Fang Ruijun looked at the documents on the table and licked his dry lips.

Wang Yingxue carried the dishes out of the kitchen and glanced at the table full of ingredients in the bedroom.

She turned to look at Su Feng, then at Fang Ruijun, who was sitting at the table gently wiping his eyes.

My nose started to sting...

"Fang Ruijun!"

"Hey, here it comes!"
