Lin Wanzhi looked out the window again, and the smile on her lips slowly faded.

If Michael's barrier was weak before...

Just a few days ago, after she submitted her betting request and Michael ultimately refused, this barrier has now stood in her way.

She was almost certain that it wasn't the group's unwillingness to take risks; she even doubted whether Michael had reported the proposal to the group.

Lin Wanzhi turned her head and suddenly spoke, "Amy, I know Michael called you privately recently. Was he reminding you to urge me to coordinate more with the publicity department?"

Cai Shan subconsciously scratched her knee with her fingers, then nodded.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Lin Wanzhi asked seriously.

Cai Shan raised her head and met his gaze directly: "Because I am your assistant, not his."

A smile crept onto Lin Wanzhi's lips. She turned her head back to look out the window and said slowly, "After this negotiation, I have no way out. Do you understand?"

"I understand," Cai Shan nodded.

"From now on, I can only rely on my own resources, plus the group's most basic support, to do the rest."

Lin Wanzhi's gaze fell on Cai Shan's face, and she said solemnly:

"Amy, I'm giving you one more chance. You can choose to return to Huitong and continue working on projects with other managers."

"You can also choose to stay and work with me to achieve this goal."

"I choose to stay." Cai Shan said with almost no hesitation.

Lin Wanzhi raised her hand, gesturing for her to listen: "If I fail to be elected as a partner, Michael won't keep either of us when we return to Huitong."

"I know his character; he won't allow another partner in the Far East. You'd better think it over."

"I'll stay with you," Cai Shan said decisively, emphasizing each word.

Lin Wanzhi was stunned for a moment, then burst out laughing. Her smile was bright and cheerful, a look Cai Shan had never seen before.

She was no longer the cold, strict, and perpetually tense boss, but rather like an older sister to whom you could entrust your secrets.

"You trust me that much?"

"Yes." Cai Shan nodded vigorously.

Lin Wanzhi's smile flickered in the light and shadow of the car window, but she quickly regained her usual composure.

"But Linda," Cai Shan paused, then continued, "Michael is indeed very eager for us to establish contact with the propaganda department. Shouldn't we push this forward? Otherwise, I'm afraid he'll find an excuse to cause trouble."

Lin Wanzhi smiled and looked at Cai Shan: "You're right."

"Let's make contact. After arranging a time with the Women's Federation, we'll go visit them."

Cai Shan nodded: "Okay, I'll take care of it this afternoon."

The office of Section Chief Liang, Publicity Department of the Women's Federation.

The afternoon sun shone through the window, making one corner of the desk slightly warm.

Section Chief Liang sat in a rattan chair, holding a piece of paper in his hand. It was a letter of recommendation from Ye Wenxi, about Wang Yingxue's deeds.

She had already read the letter the first time she received it.

But these past two days, she's been unconsciously pulling it out of the folder and looking at it over and over again.

Previously, her understanding of the two candidates for March 8th Red Banner Pacesetter submitted by the 39th Military Region was limited to the documents on paper.

So this letter was like someone suddenly pushing open a window in front of him.

Through the specific person of Wang Yingxue, she saw what was happening there so vividly for the first time.

Section Chief Liang gently pressed the letter on the table, his gaze falling on the distant horizon outside the window.

She stood up, walked to the door, and called out, "Xiao Liu!"

"Yes, Section Chief."

"How's the compilation of the interview materials with Comrades Ding Jiahe and Ye Wenxi coming along?"

"Still sorting it out, Section Chief."

Section Chief Liang pondered for a moment, as if he had made up his mind.

"Hold on a minute. I remember Comrade Ye left their hotel's phone number. Go and contact them, ask when they're returning to the military region, and if it would be convenient for us to go there and see for ourselves."

Xiao Liu paused for a moment, then nodded: "Okay, I'll contact them right away."

"Go."

Section Chief Liang turned around and went back to his office. Just as he sat down in his chair, the phone on his desk suddenly rang.

She reached out and took it: "Feed?"

A slightly broken Mandarin voice came through the phone, with a distinct Cantonese accent.

Section Chief Liang frowned slightly: "Hong Kong City... Huitong Company?"

-----------------

In Harbin in the summer, cicadas chirp desperately in the trees, one call after another.

The cacophony of noise mixed with the heat made people even more irritable.

Ye Wenxi first went to the lighting counter in the department store.

She picked out a few items and asked about the quantity and price, but because the quantity was too large, she couldn't purchase them from the counter.

I had to make another trip to the lighting factory's retail store to place an order.

After choosing the lighting fixtures, she took a bus to a door and window factory outside the city.

The factory didn't have a proper sales department, so the salesperson who received her led her directly to an open space at the back of the factory.

There were several rows of simple sheds there, with samples and materials all laid out outside... wooden-framed doors and windows, steel-framed doors and windows, and various kinds of glass, stacked haphazardly, covered with canvas for shade.

Ye Wenxi followed the salesperson around the stall, carefully examining each item.

She inquired about the price and delivery time of each item, and asked about the advantages and disadvantages of each one, while constantly scribbling notes in her notebook.

At three o'clock in the afternoon, when the sun was blazing, it wasn't cool under the shed either.

The afternoon just passed by like that.

She quickly finalized a few door and window styles that she would definitely use. She would provide them with the specific quantities and dimensions before construction began, so she paid a deposit and left her contact information.

As Ye Wenxi walked out of the factory gate, he felt a little heavy-headed and his steps were unsteady.

There is no direct bus from the door and window factory to the International Hotel.

She has to walk for about half an hour along the gravel road to reach the main road and catch a bus.

There was almost no shade on either side of this road, and the sun was baking the ground, making your feet feel hot.

Ye Wenxi held up a floral parasol, looking as if she had been stuffed into a steamer.

She gritted her teeth and walked forward, her vision beginning to blur.

Finally reaching the bus stop, Ye Wenxi squeezed onto the bus and stood leaning against the handrail. After a difficult journey, the bus swayed and bumped its way to the stop. When Ye Wenxi got off, her legs went weak, and she almost knelt on the ground.

"Oh no, I've got heatstroke," Ye Wenxi thought to himself, realizing the situation was dire.

She struggled to move through the doors of the international hotel, then her body swayed and she collapsed softly onto the lobby floor.

"Comrade! Comrade! What's wrong?" The receptionist exclaimed as she ran over.

Ye Wenxi wanted to wave her hand and say she was fine, but her lips were so dry she couldn't open them, and her consciousness seemed to be slowly swept away by the tide.

Ye Wenxi fell into a coma.
