One Yuan First Recharge: I'm Actually the Boss Behind a Fortune 500 Company
Chapter 45 Arriving Home
When Su Qing woke up, she found herself leaning on Wang Hao's shoulder.
She paused for a moment, then didn't move away immediately.
Wang Hao has broad, strong shoulders; leaning on them feels very reassuring.
His scent, a blend of faint laundry detergent fragrance and a familiar, unique aroma, inexplicably reassured her.
The carriage was warm, and soft instrumental music was playing in the car.
Outside the window, the night and twinkling lights were rushing past.
For a few seconds, Su Qing felt as if time had reversed, returning to many years ago—when she and Wang Hao were still dating, and she would always lean on his shoulder to sleep whenever they took a long bus ride.
He would carefully adjust his position to make her more comfortable, and gently hold her hand with his other hand.
If... if Wang Hao had been more assertive back then, if they had been able to continue on their path naturally, what would things be like now?
They should already be married, have a home in this city, and be living a stable life.
She doesn't have to maintain a respectable facade every day, deal with pointless social interactions, or feel lonely and lost in the dead of night.
None of this was her fault...
It was Wang Hao's lack of effort, stability, and maturity that forced her to make that choice.
Is it wrong for her to just want a normal, secure future?
A complex mix of emotions welled up in Su Qing's heart—a sense of attachment, reluctance, but mostly a deep resentment.
She resented Wang Hao for not giving her the life she wanted back then, for forcing her to leave, and for being able to face everything so calmly now.
But clearly, it was all Wang Hao's fault.
She didn't move away and remained leaning on Wang Hao's shoulder.
But this is no longer an intimate attachment; it's more like a silent accusation—look, we could have been like this, but you ruined everything.
……
About twenty minutes later, the navigation indicated that we were about to reach the next exit, and it would be less than half an hour's drive from my hometown.
Su Qing stirred slightly, pretending to have just woken up, and slowly straightened up.
"Awake?" Wang Hao asked.
"Mmm." Su Qing rubbed her eyes, her voice still hoarse from just waking up. "Are we almost there?"
"Almost there, in another half hour."
"oh."
Su Qing turned her head to look out the window and didn't say anything more.
Wang Hao didn't have it either.
"..."
It was already past nine o'clock at night when we got off the highway.
Wu Liang pulled over to the side of the road with his hazard lights on, and Wang Hao followed suit and parked his car behind him.
"Liangzi, wait for me here for a moment." Wang Hao pointed ahead:
"I'll take her back first, it only takes about ten minutes round trip, then we'll go back to the village together."
Wu Liang glanced at Su Qing in the passenger seat and nodded: "Okay, go ahead, I'll wait for you here."
Wang Hao restarted the car and turned onto the road leading to the county town.
It's only a few kilometers from the highway exit to the center of the county town, which is indeed not far.
The carriage remained quiet.
Su Qing looked out the window at the familiar street scene—this was where she grew up.
Most of the shops on both sides of the street are still open. With the Spring Festival approaching, red lanterns are hung everywhere, and the festive atmosphere is getting stronger.
But her mood was completely out of sync with the festive atmosphere.
A few minutes later, the car stopped at the entrance of her residential compound.
This is an old residential complex. Su Qing lives on the fifth floor, and there is no elevator.
"We're here." Wang Hao said, unbuckled his seatbelt, got out of the car, and went around to the trunk to help Su Qing get her luggage.
Su Qing also got out of the car and stood by the car watching Wang Hao take out her suitcase.
"Thank you," she said softly.
"You're welcome." Wang Hao handed her the suitcase. "Then I'll be going."
"Um."
There were no further words exchanged between the two.
Wang Hao turned around, got into the car, fastened his seatbelt, and started the engine.
In the rearview mirror, Su Qing was still standing there, pulling her suitcase, her shadow stretching long under the streetlights.
He didn't look at it much, turned on his turn signal, and turned around to leave.
Su Qing watched the black BMW disappear around the street corner, and stood there motionless for a long time.
A night breeze blew by, carrying the chill of December, and she couldn't help but shiver.
What am I fantasizing about?
Su Qing closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
The cold air entered her lungs, making her feel much more awake.
Reason regained its advantage.
No longer like just now, in that enclosed little space in the car, overwhelmed by memories and emotions.
Standing on a familiar street, at the entrance of my own residential compound, a strong sense of reality washes over me.
Wang Hao was never able to give himself the life he wanted.
What's past is past.
She made the right choice.
She made the right decision to break up.
Even if Wang Hao bought a car... she's still far from the life she wants.
Thinking this way, the bittersweet feeling in my heart seemed to lessen a bit.
She picked up her suitcase, turned around, and walked into the residential area.
……
When Wang Hao drove back to the highway exit, Wu Liang was leaning against the car smoking.
Seeing Wang Hao's car, Wu Liang stubbed out his cigarette and opened the car door: "All done?"
"Yes, it's been sent back." Wang Hao also stopped the car.
"Let's go back to the village."
The two set off again, with Wu Liang leading the way once more.
It takes about forty minutes to drive from the county town to the village. The road conditions are not as good as the highway, but fortunately there are fewer cars at night.
After driving for about ten minutes, Wu Liang called – connected to the car's Bluetooth.
"Haozi".
"What's wrong, Ryoko?"
"I didn't ask too many questions earlier..." Wu Liang's voice came from the speakers, "Was everything alright on the way?"
Wang Hao knew what he was asking: "It's nothing, we just chatted for a bit."
"That's good."
The two chatted for a few more minutes before Wu Liang hung up the phone.
Wang Hao focused on driving. Outside the window was the familiar rural night scene—fields, woods, and the occasional flash of farm lights.
This is the place where he was born and raised. Every time he comes back, he feels an indescribable sense of peace.
Forty minutes later, the car drove into the village.
Wu Liangjia arrived first.
He parked his car on the side of the road in front of his house, got out, walked over, and knocked on Wang Hao's car window.
The car window rolled down, and Wu Liang leaned on the windowsill and said:
"Haozi, it's getting late. Let's talk tomorrow. Your parents are probably still waiting for you. Go home now."
"Okay, then you should get some rest."
"Alright! I'll invite you for drinks tomorrow!"
Wu Liang waved his hand, turned around, and went into his own yard.
Wang Hao continued driving, and after another two or three minutes, he arrived at his own doorstep.
The house is a self-built house with a yard, and there is a fairly spacious parking area next to it.
He drove the car into the yard and parked it. As soon as he turned off the engine, he saw that the lights in the house were still on.
Clearly, his parents were waiting for him.
Sure enough, upon hearing the car, the door creaked open.
Two figures walked out of the house—it was Mom and Dad.
Wang Hao pushed open the car door and got out: "Dad, Mom, I'm home."
