Detective Conan: The Literary Genius is Actually a Great Scientist
Chapter 27: Lawyer's Letter Warning!
As always, the police arrived late.
They promised to arrive in 10 minutes, but it took them more than half an hour. If someone hadn't used some kind of "scientific cheat," they probably would have been only able to collect the bodies and write reports by the time they arrived.
And leading the team was none other than the younger brother's Devil Fruit owner, Inspector Megure.
"We came to the library to look up information... but we accidentally stumbled upon Director Tsugawa committing murder. He chased us with a gun, and during the chase, he pulled out some strange homemade weapon from somewhere, and then suddenly... it exploded. That's what happened, I don't know anything more."
Looking at Inspector Megure's grave expression, Lin Ran shrugged, wearing an innocent look that said, "I'm a victim too."
Drug trafficking, gun possession, murder, bombing... Such a big case is something you might only see a few times a month in Mikasa. Inspector Megure is naturally very cautious, especially since it might involve mysterious weapons.
But the young Chinese man in front of me knew nothing when asked:
I don't know, I'm not sure, I don't understand.
Inspector Megure frowned, wanting to press for more details.
"Forest……"
Just then, a cold and extremely oppressive voice interrupted him:
"Inspector Megure."
Eri Kisaki stepped forward and stood beside Lin Ran, shielding the boy behind her, her pretty face full of coldness.
"Given such a heinous incident, shouldn't your primary task as the police be to thoroughly investigate and interrogate the perpetrators and the drug trafficking network behind them, tracing the source of the drugs and weapons? Instead, you're repeatedly questioning us two severely traumatized victims!"
She crossed her arms over her chest, a gesture that accentuated her already impressive figure, but no one dared to admire her at that moment; they only felt immense pressure.
Lin Ran looked at Director Tsukawa on the ground and nodded silently.
Scientifically speaking, after a person dies, their body temperature drops, which can cause them to become cold and withdrawn, and less talkative.
So, since the perpetrators haven't said anything, and silence is a virtue, it's naturally not the victims' place to say anything more.
Seeing Eri Kisaki step forward, Inspector Megure was also somewhat troubled.
This undefeated queen of the legal profession is not to be trifled with.
Seeing his leader's predicament, Takagi Wataru frowned, stepped forward, and said in a serious tone, "Madam, please understand, this is a routine questioning by our police to find out the truth. You and this student have an obligation to cooperate..."
Lin Ran glanced at Takagi in surprise.
Kid, how can you be so brave? Didn't you see that even your boss chickened out?
Sure enough, Eri Kisaki raised her arms, which were crossed over her chest, and pushed up her glasses, the lenses reflecting a cold light.
Inspector Megure's expression changed drastically, and his heart skipped a beat!
He was all too familiar with his old friend's signature move; it was the prelude to a "lawyer's letter warning"!
"Routine inquiry?"
Eri Kisaki's voice was so cold it could shatter ice crystals:
"So, I'd like to ask, why did the police delay for more than half an hour after receiving the report, when they promised to arrive within 10 minutes? Does this constitute dereliction of duty? Is it an extreme lack of responsibility towards the safety of citizens? I reserve the right to prosecute this serious dereliction of duty, and the Metropolitan Police Department will receive a lawyer's letter from me..."
"Snapped!"
Without hesitation, Inspector Megure slapped Takagi on the back of the head, interrupting his "brave" speech. The force was so great that Takagi almost stumbled.
"The child is just being silly! Attorney Fei, please don't take it to heart! Please don't sue! We absolutely didn't mean it that way!"
Inspector Megure quickly put on a forced smile, cold sweat pouring down his forehead.
He glared fiercely at Takagi, then turned to Lin Ran, his tone instantly becoming incredibly kind and even tinged with gratitude:
"Hey... Brother Lin Ran! Thank you so much this time! Thank you for your tremendous contribution to our anti-drug work in Mihua! Our police will definitely apply for a Good Citizen Award for you! We highly commend your spirit of courage and righteousness!"
Lin Ran blinked.
Sigh, Inspector Megure, do you change your expression so quickly?
Eri Kisaki lowered her raised eyebrows slightly, her tone still cold: "So, Inspector Megure, may we leave now? My client needs to rest and calm down."
"Of course! Of course!"
Inspector Megure nodded repeatedly. "Well... if you two have time in the next few days, could you please come to the Metropolitan Police Department for a brief statement? Of course, if you're not available, that's fine too! There's no rush!"
Eri Kisaki said no more, gestured to Lin Ran with her eyes, then turned around and, with elegant and domineering steps, led Lin Ran straight through the still somewhat chaotic scene and towards the library exit.
Lin Ran followed obediently behind, not forgetting to turn back and wave amicably: "Goodbye, Inspector Megure. Thank you for cleaning up the scene."
Watching the two figures leave until they disappeared outside the library gate, Inspector Megure finally breathed a long sigh of relief, vigorously wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, his back completely soaked.
Takagi rubbed the back of his head, looking aggrieved and confused: "Officer, are we just going to let them go like that? There are still so many suspicious points at the scene..."
"Otherwise what?" Inspector Megure glared at him irritably. "Are you waiting for a lawyer's letter from Kisaki Law Firm to be sent to the Metropolitan Police Department, accusing us of dereliction of duty, malfeasance, and not taking the safety of citizens seriously?"
"It's just a lawyer's letter..."
Takagi muttered to himself, clearly still unaware of the harsh realities of life and how terrifying a lawyer's letter from a top lawyer could be.
"Nonsense! Do you even know who she is?"
Inspector Megure lowered his voice, his tone filled with awe, "That's Eri Kisaki! The undefeated queen of the legal world! No matter how difficult the case, she has maintained a 100% win rate to this day! Never lost!"
Don't say that the police were indeed slow to respond today, and that they were in the wrong from the start.
Even if they are in the right and have solid evidence, if they really anger their old friend, with her powerful abilities and connections, she can make sure that the police force suffers a great deal of trouble and can't get away with it.
Hearing Inspector Megure's explanation, and recalling Eri Kisaki's cold and powerful aura just now, Wataru Takagi silently shivered and finally shut his mouth, not daring to say anything more.
"So... what do we do about this case now?"
Inspector Megure surveyed the scene, especially the large quantity of drugs that the officers who conducted the subsequent search had removed from the secret compartment. He then looked at the corpse of Director Tsugawa on the floor and the strange hole in the wall. After a moment's thought, he waved his hand dismissively:
"We are announcing that our police have successfully apprehended a suspect involved in armed drug trafficking. During a standoff with police, the suspect used a homemade dangerous weapon, which accidentally exploded, resulting in his immediate death. Please thoroughly clean the scene and collect evidence, especially the drugs—make sure nothing is lost!"
"By the way, I'm treating tonight. This is quite a great achievement."
"yes!"
The police officers responded in unison and got to work.
As for that illogical hole in the wall... aren't strange things common in Mika? You'll get used to it.
Some things are better left unexamined, especially when the other side has a top lawyer backing them up. Successfully seizing a large quantity of drugs and killing the armed drug dealer is already the best possible outcome.
