The black SUV sped along the highway, its engine roaring continuously.

Du Qiangwei sat in the passenger seat, looking down at her phone. The screen displayed a photo she had just taken at the villa's entrance: Lu Xiao leaned against the doorframe, staring coldly at the camera, his expression unreadable.

"Rose." A-Jie broke the silence, staring at the road ahead. "That Lu Xiao is too arrogant. If you hadn't stopped me, I really would have liked to test his mettle."

Rose put away her phone and leaned back in her chair.

"You can't try," she said.

A-Jie frowned and glanced at her: "What do you mean? Even if he's a super soldier, he can't be invulnerable to bullets and blades. My gun is loaded with armor-piercing rounds."

"Intuition," Rose said, closing her eyes. "The instant he looked at you, I felt that if you dared to draw your gun, you would be the one to die. There was no doubt about it."

A-Jie tightened his grip on the steering wheel, offering no further rebuttal. The chilling feeling of being targeted by a top predator hadn't yet dissipated.

The car drove into a military restricted area and, after passing through several checkpoints, stopped on the deck of the Giant Hero aircraft carrier. A strong sea breeze blew; Rose smoothed her red hair and hurried with A-Jie towards the command room.

Inside the command center, technicians were busy at the electronic screens. Dukao, dressed in military uniform, stood in front of the main screen, while Lianfeng operated a tablet computer beside him.

"Commander." Rose and A-Jie stepped forward and saluted.

Dukao turned around: "You're back. How did it go?"

"Mission failed." Rose lowered her hand, her voice low. "Lu Xiao refused the offer. His attitude was firm, you could even say... he ignored it."

"Ignore it?" Dukao raised an eyebrow.

"Yes." Recalling Lu Xiao's yawn, Rose felt a surge of anger rise in her heart again. "He had no reaction to national righteousness or the impending war, and even thought I was talking nonsense."

Dukao nodded, showing no surprise. He sat down in the chair next to him and took a sip of tea.

"As expected. People with that kind of power usually have their own arrogance." Dukao put down his teacup. "What about the angels? The surveillance footage shows they went too."

"They're here," Rose reported. "Angel Yan, and also Zhui and Mo Yi. They arrived before us, and they seemed to be having a good chat with Lu Xiao. When Lu Xiao told us to leave, she didn't tell them to leave."

"Oh?" Dukao tapped his fingers twice on the table. "It seems the angels are quite interested in him as well."

"Commander, Lu Xiao is an unstable factor," A-Jie interjected. "He is extremely destructive and uncontrollable. If he sides with the Angels or is used by Morgana, it will be very detrimental to us."

Dukao waved his hand, interrupting A-Jie.

"Don't worry too much. As long as he's an Earthling living on this planet, he can't stay out of it." Dukao looked at Lianfeng, "Lianfeng, pull up the data and show it to them."

"Yes."

Lianfeng manipulated the tablet a few times, and the holographic projection table in the center of the command room lit up with blue light, forming a rotating human body model. The model was marked with dense red nodes, corresponding to various organs and implants.

"What is this?" Rose leaned closer to examine it.

"This is the conclusion we reached based on information we collected online, combined with the preliminary scan of Lu Xiao's body data by Deno III," Lian Feng said calmly. "This is what is known as a 'Primitive Space Marine'."

Rose looked at the text description of the model:

Phase One: The Second Heart. An auxiliary heart is implanted to enhance blood circulation and provide double the blood supply.

[Stage Three: Bone Strengthening and Organization. Through hormone stimulation, bone growth is achieved, fusing with the ribs in the thoracic cavity to form a single bone plate with a hardness comparable to ceramic steel.]

[Stage Ten: Multiple Lungs. A third lung lobe is implanted, capable of filtering toxic gases and enabling survival in low-oxygen environments.]

[Stage Nineteen: Black Carapace. A subcutaneous neural sensory membrane is implanted, directly connecting to the powered armor, making the armor a second layer of skin.]

Rose's pupils contracted. She had thought that Lu Xiao had simply activated a super gene like Ge Xiaolun, but the data showed that this was not evolution at all, but a complete transformation—disassembling a living person, stuffing in artificial organs, and then breaking and reassembling the bones.

"This…" Rose pointed to one of the items, the [Belissau's Forge], her voice hoarse, "What is this?"

"An emergency gland," Lianfeng explained, "connected between two hearts. When the receptor suffers a fatal injury, it instantly secretes a large amount of enhancing hormones and painkillers, overdrawing its life force to maintain combat capabilities while simultaneously promoting rapid wound healing. It's a technique of dancing on the edge of death."

Lianfeng switched to a surgical diagram. On the operating table, the recipient was restrained with straps, and a robotic arm was cutting open the chest with a drill and saw. The diagram indicated that there was no anesthesia, because the nervous system can only adapt to the implant when the recipient is awake.

"Twenty-two surgeries," Lianfeng said, looking at Qiangwei. "The probability of completing all of them and surviving is less than forty percent. And that's just the physiological modification."

Rose felt a chill run down her spine. She stared at the rotating model, and the image of Lu Xiao's calm face flashed through her mind. That man yawning in the villa—his body contained these monstrous organs.

"This is like dancing on the edge of death," Rose muttered to herself. "A madman. Only a madman would accept this kind of transformation."

"So, do you understand now?" Dukao stood up and walked to the holographic projection. "He's not a super soldier. He's a weapon. A biological weapon created purely for killing."

Dukao turned around and looked at Rose and Ajay.

"For a weapon, lofty ideals and the defense of the homeland are meaningless. A weapon only recognizes two things: orders and objectives."

"Then what should we do?" A-Jie asked. "If he's just a weapon, then who's wielding it?"

"No one has grasped this sword yet." Dukao narrowed his eyes. "The angels want to grasp it, and so do we. But he seems unwilling to follow anyone. That's alright, war will force him to make a choice. When the Taotie's warships hover over his head, this sword will naturally be drawn."

Rose fell silent. Staring at the surgical diagram, she suddenly understood Lu Xiao's indifference. How could someone who had undergone such inhuman modification possibly resonate with slogans? His blood was cold; he had two hearts, but perhaps neither beat for a human.

……

Giant City, Seaside Park.

As the sun sets, three angels sit on a bench. Yan holds a milk tea, the straw crushed from her bite. A-Zhui is looking at her phone, while Mo-Yi stares blankly at the sea.

"Sister Yan," Mo Yi suddenly spoke up, "Lu Xiao was so cold to me at the villa just now."

"Yeah," A-Zhui put down her phone and continued, "I just walked up to him on purpose, and he didn't even lift an eyelid. We're angels, after all. In the known universe, countless gods are lining up to see us. But he just treats us like we're invisible."

A-Zhui was somewhat unconvinced; she felt like a block of wood in front of Lu Xiao.

"And another thing," Moy added, "the look in his eyes when he chased Rose away was truly terrifying, like he was looking at a dead person. Does he really have no feelings?"

Yan chuckled as she bit her straw.

"Feelings?" Yan swirled his glass. "You expect an Astartes monk, especially a Proto-Forged Space Marine, to talk to you about feelings?"

"What do you mean?" Ah-Zhui asked, puzzled.

Yan pointed to his head.

"Just now at the villa, although my Eye of Insight couldn't read his dark dimension, I observed his physiological reactions." Yan held up a finger. "His heartbeat didn't change at all when Rose got angry, nor did it speed up when A-Jie tried to draw his gun. Even when the three of us were sitting opposite him, his hormone levels were as low as a dead man's."

"This is not normal." A-Zhui frowned. "Even a celibate ascetic should have an instinctive reaction when he sees something beautiful."

"That's the problem." Yan put down her milk tea cup, crossed her arms, and said, "You only focused on the implanted organs and didn't see the psychological modification part. The Astartes' modification is comprehensive."

Yan recalled the contents of the file, and her tone became serious: "They underwent deep hypnosis and neurosurgery. This surgery removes the part of the brain responsible for fear, while suppressing sexual desire, lust, and most of the emotions that are 'superfluous' to mortals."

A-Zhui and Mo-Yi were stunned.

"Cut off fear? Suppress desire?" Moi's eyes widened.

"That's right." Yan nodded. "In the eyes of their creators, emotions are a sign of weakness and will affect efficiency. The perfect warrior needs no fear, nor needs to be bound by family ties. They cut those things out and filled them with absolute loyalty, hatred for the enemy, and a fanaticism for war."

Yan looked at the horizon and continued, "So Lu Xiao isn't just pretending to be cool; he genuinely doesn't care. In his eyes, Rose's theory is noise, and our beauty is a meaningless signal. Only A-Jie's gun or A-Zhui's fighting intent can attract his attention. Because those are threats, they are fighting signals."

Ah Zhui recalled her earlier provocation.

"Isn't he pathetic?" Moy whispered. "No love, no fear, not even joy. Living only to fight?"

"Pitiful?" Yan stood up and laughed. "Perhaps for mortals, but for him, this may be glory. He is the Emperor's angel of death, not Cupid."

Yan spread her wings, and the setting sun tinged them with gold.

"Let's go. Now that we know what kind of person he is, dealing with him next time will be easier. Don't talk to him about ideals and sentiments, just talk about how to kill enemies, or give him some good knives, he might be more willing to talk."

Ah-Zhui also stood up and stretched.

"Hearing you say that makes me even more eager to fight him." Ah-Zhui clenched his fist. "A monster without fear, born only for war. Defeating an opponent like that would be truly satisfying."

Moy sighed and threw the empty milk tea cup into the trash can.

"I was originally planning to introduce him to a girlfriend."

The three angels transformed into streaks of light and soared into the sky, disappearing into the clouds.
