Right path to power

"What are you standing there for? Didn't you hear what Director Lin said?" Xu Jingnan said coldly again.

"yes!"

Xiao Yan responded dejectedly and could only say to the short-haired man, "Zhu... Zhu Xiaolong, come with us to the station."

"No, Director Xiao, what do you mean? I was the one who reported it..." Zhu Xiaolong was clearly unable to accept this sudden reversal, and stared angrily at Xiao Yan.

"Chief Xiao," Lin Xiao interrupted Zhu Xiaolong directly, "the victim is right next to me. Please take a statement from her and find out the details."

Xiao Yan glanced at Lin Xiao but did not respond. Then he glared at Hu Qingqing beside him and said indifferently, "Then move over there."

Seeing Lin Xiao nod, Hu Qingqing got up and went to the side, recounting what had happened. The process was actually quite simple. It could be considered a big deal, since there's no standard on a spiritual level, but it could also be considered a small matter, since she hadn't suffered any real harm.

Xiao Yan handed the interrogation record to Hu Qingqing, and then told her to sign her name and put her fingerprint on it if there were no problems. After all this was done, Xiao Yan smiled and turned to Xu Jingnan.

"Director Xu, is there anything else you need?"

Xu Jingnan said slowly with a serious expression, "Handling cases according to law and enforcing the law in a civilized manner are the two major principles of our public security system. You must keep these in mind from now on. Also, I will be paying attention to this matter, and you must handle it in accordance with the law and regulations."

Before Xiao Yan could respond, Lin Xiao continued, "Director Xu, you must have received the notification as well. The county government's inspection office will be conducting a special inspection of the entire county's public security system. I think we should start with the Xiguan Township Police Station. The official notification will be issued tomorrow."

Upon hearing this, Xiao Yan's face turned as green as a grassland, and he stared at Lin Xiao in astonishment and suspicion, but Lin Xiao simply ignored him.

"Director Lin, our county bureau will urge all police stations to fully cooperate."

Lin Xiao smiled and nodded at him.

Afterwards, Xiao Yan led Zhu Xiaolong out of the private room.

Taking a small sip of wine, Lin Xiao finally asked, "Director Xu, just who is this Zhu Xiaolong? How come he can summon a deputy director of a police station with just one phone call?"

"He is Zhan Shixiong's brother-in-law. In fact, he is a hoodlum at heart. He always takes advantage of his brother-in-law's relationship to boss around some cowardly cadres."

"Oh, so it's a case of the upper beam being crooked and the lower beam being crooked too. No wonder. It seems I was right when I said this wasn't an isolated incident."

"Director Lin, your judgment is spot on. To be honest, I also helped Zhan Shixiong's brother-in-law once. At that time, I hadn't been transferred to the county yet, and it was a small matter, so... sigh... I think this kid is beyond saving. At this time, I think it is very necessary for your county government to carry out special supervision work. The county's public security system really needs to be rectified."

Xu Jingnan spoke fluently, and from his almost undisguised words, Lin Xiao naturally guessed his intention: to join County Magistrate Gong Lei's "camp" and become "the County Magistrate's man"!

Lin Xiao was pleased to see this.

In addition, Liu Yun had previously told Lin Xiao that Xu Jingnan and his uncle He Zhiqiang were elementary school classmates and had maintained a good relationship over the years, which was the key reason why Liu Yun acted as a matchmaker.

"Director Xu, judging from tonight's situation alone, a comprehensive overhaul of the county's public security system is truly imperative. It's not that someone has connections behind the scenes that's scary; what's scary is that we can't find a breakthrough. Since our Supervision Office is leading this operation, I'll handle the pressure from above."

Lin Xiao also frankly expressed his will. Since Xu Jingnan had pledged his allegiance, he would also act decisively and swiftly.

Xu Jingnan glanced at Liu Yun beside him, and saw Liu Yun nod affirmatively. He was immediately excited and said with a smile, "Anyone who has been in a position for a long enough time cannot be completely clean. It's just that it will take a lot of time to investigate."

Lin Xiao nodded in agreement, and then said, "Okay, if anything happens, we'll keep in touch. I hope the situation at the Public Security Bureau can be significantly improved, and I also hope that Director Xu can play an important role in this."

Xu Jingnan was somewhat surprised, feeling that the young deputy director of the county government office had a confidence and composure that ordinary people did not possess, and he was even more puzzled about the source of these qualities.

"Although I'm not as young as you, I really want to learn from your youthful energy. You may be old, but your hearts can be young!"

"Director Xu, you're exaggerating. You're at the prime of your life, the time to make a name for yourself. How can you say you're old? I bet it won't be long before you're in charge of things on your own," Lin Xiao said meaningfully.

Xu Jingnan was taken aback when he heard this, wondering what "being able to take charge independently" meant. Although he had only known Lin Xiao for a short time, he believed from Lin Xiao's performance that Lin Xiao would not say anything untrue. However, even if Lin Xiao were to take that position, he would need the approval of the city and the county committee.

"Then may I congratulate Director Xu first, Director Lin?" Liu Yun smiled and looked at Lin Xiao.

However, Lin Xiao just rolled her eyes at him and didn't say anything.

However, the more this happened, the more confused Xu Jingnan became. He originally wanted to get to know Lin Xiao, the "favorite" of the county magistrate, through Liu Yun, just so that he could have more opportunities in the future. But some of Lin Xiao's words seemed to be hinting at something to him.

Of course, he also knew in his heart that now was not the time to focus on these things, but to actually do something concrete.

After chatting and eating for a while, the dinner party came to an end. Lin Xiao took Hu Qingqing back to her residence, while Liu Yun took Xu Jingnan home.

As soon as he sat down on the sofa in the living room, Xu Jingnan took out his phone and called his old friend He Zhiqiang.

"Old He, this Xiao Lin is quite extraordinary; he has a courage that his peers don't possess."

He Zhiqiang smiled knowingly, but remained calm and said, "Old Xu, don't overthink it. Young people are naturally more courageous than us old men because they still have the capacity to make mistakes. However, I still want to tell you that Lin Xiao is a reliable person. Just go for it, and you'll see in the future."

Despite being childhood friends, He Zhiqiang understood that some things couldn't be discussed openly, especially when it involved leaders.

"Haha, Lao He, I knew that without you reminding me. Besides, if I didn't believe you, I wouldn't have gone to dinner with Liu Yun tonight. I was just a little curious. But since you've said so, let's do it."

"Yes, let's do it!"

The following day, the county government officially issued a special inspection notice, and sure enough, the first target of the inspection was the Xiguan Township Police Station.

Upon receiving the notification, the entire Xiguan Township Police Station was on high alert, with various discussions taking place. Station Chief Qu Wu was somewhat dumbfounded and hurriedly called Xiao Yan into his office to discuss the matter.
