Mo held Bai Ze, watching as the Great Shaman's expression suddenly turned serious. He swayed, opened his mouth, and spoke in a hoarse voice: "You'll get better after taking the medicine, right?"

Yan and Li kept adding firewood to the fire, and Kun and Chen ran out to carry a large stack of firewood. The cave was soon warmed up.

Bai Ze lay quietly on the bed, while Mo stood beside him, his expression stiff, holding his hand tightly.

Xi knelt by the bedside, wiping away her tears with the back of her hand, her voice choked with sobs: "Bai Ze, wake up..."

Jue stood there steadily, neither crying nor making a fuss. When she saw Bai Ze's collar soaked with cold sweat, she turned around and ran home. A little while later, she came back carrying several clean clothes.

Si scooped out a basin of hot water and took a small piece of animal hide, carrying it into the cave inside: "Mo, the Great Shaman wants you to wipe Bai Ze's body."

Mo nodded and took it, quickly took off Bai Ze's clothes, soaked the animal skin in hot water, wrung it out, and then bent down to gently wipe the sweat off his body.

Bai Ze was like a rag doll, limp and motionless, letting Mo cup his face, lift his arms, hold his legs, and turn him over...

After doing all this, Mo sat on the edge of the bed, wrapped Bai Ze in an animal skin blanket and half-embracing him, his face pressed against Bai Ze's burning skin, his voice low and hoarse: "Wake up, Bai Ze, don't sleep..."

Jue brought in hot water and carefully presented it to Bai Ze.

Xi followed closely behind, and as soon as he saw Bai Ze, he pouted and wanted to cry again. He rubbed his eyes and tried hard to hold back his tears.

Bai Ze was unconscious, and the water started dripping down his chin before it even entered his mouth.

Jue and Xi quickly used their sleeves to wipe the water stains off him; the corners of both children's eyes were red.

Mo would take a sip himself first, then feed Bai Ze a mouthful, mouth to mouth, and then use his tongue to hold it in place so that Bai Ze wouldn't spit it out. The herbs that the Great Shaman brewed were also fed to him by Mo, mouthful by mouthful.

Upon hearing the news, Qing and Xing braved the snow to rush over. When they saw Bai Ze in this state, their eyes instantly reddened.

In this world, medical technology is very primitive, and medicines are limited to a few common herbs for stopping bleeding, reducing inflammation, and expelling parasites. Even a common cold or fever can be fatal, especially during cold waves, and most people have to rely on themselves to get through it.

Zhao was already a very powerful shaman, but he couldn't be sure if his medicine could cure Bai Ze. He could only pray to the Beast God in his heart, asking him to protect Bai Ze and help him overcome the disease.

The clan chief also arrived. The atmosphere inside the cave was heavy. Everyone kept silent and did what they could.

At dawn, the sky was bright.

The others had to patrol and hunt, so Yan, Qing, and Xing stayed behind to help look after them.

Mo sat silently on the edge of the bed, the blue veins on the back of his hand standing out prominently.

Bai Ze used to lie there motionless, just like he does now. People said it was because he had just given birth to Jue and was weak. They said he would wake up after sleeping and resting.

Mo sat there, waiting patiently.

Three days later, Bai Ze woke up, but he had changed.

Mo didn't understand anything about souls or time travel; all he knew was that it wasn't his Bai Ze.

Mo could only continue to wait. No one told him where Bai Ze had gone or whether he would come back. All he could do was guard this home and keep waiting.

Eight years, more than 2,900 days, Jue could call out "Beast Father" by now, could walk, and could learn to hunt... but Bai Ze still hadn't returned.

Mo once thought that perhaps death was the end of the wait.

But Bai Ze returned.

……

Following the method Bai Ze had taught them, Qing and Xing stewed red dates, mushrooms, and the croaking beast together to make soup. After it was cooked, they had Mo feed Bai Ze a bowl of it.

They then served each of the two cubs a bowl.

Jue stared blankly at the soup in the bowl, chewing a piece of meat for a long time without swallowing it.

Qing patted his head and whispered, "Bai Ze will be alright."

Xing: "Yes, the Great Shaman has already prayed to the Beast God, and the Beast God will protect your father."

Xi quietly placed a chicken leg from her bowl into Jue's bowl, then tugged at his hand: "Jue, eat your food properly..."

"Let's wait together."

Bai Ze had been sweating non-stop since noon, his clothes getting soaked one after another, and his originally burning skin no longer felt so hot to the touch.

The shaman said it was a good thing, and told Mo to continue covering him up. Then he brewed another pot of herbs and fed it to Bai Ze.

This time, Bai Ze reacted, frowning and gritting his teeth, refusing to drink.

The original herbs are really bitter.

While unconscious, Bai Ze felt someone pouring bitter and sour spoiled soup into his mouth, the kind that had been fermenting for a week.

Helpless, Mo had no choice but to take a sip first, then pinch Bai Ze's face, pry open his teeth with his fingers, and quickly feed Bai Ze the food when he wasn't paying attention.

Afraid he would vomit, I had to try to stop him from throwing up. After feeding him a bowl, Mo himself drank quite a bit.

There were still two bowls of greenish soup left in Zhao's medicine pot, bubbling and emitting an unpleasant smell, looking quite sinister.

Seeing that his medicine was working, Zhao was very satisfied, and his stirring became much more cheerful.

He is indeed talented. He should study more in the future and strive to become famous throughout the entire Beast God Continent!

Jue walked over and asked in a low voice, "Great Shaman, can we add some fruit or needle-tailed beast food to the medicine?"

"Hmm?" Zhao looked up, puzzled. "What's wrong?"

Jue put it tactfully: "Father-in-law always vomits when he takes medicine, it's a waste."

"Oh, it's alright, I've cooked plenty." Zhao smiled and pointed to a shelf of dried plants behind him. "If it's not enough, I'll have Si dig some more."

Xi knew what Jue meant and innocently said, "Great Shaman, your medicine smells bad."

Zhao: "..."

Qing quickly covered Xi's mouth and smiled apologetically, "Great Shaman, please don't listen to Xi's nonsense."

"It smells pretty good..." Qing paused, but still couldn't bring herself to lie, "The most important thing is that it works."

Xing couldn't bear the thought of Bai Ze drinking the green, swamp-like liquid from the pot.

He said very sincerely, "But, Great Shaman, could you perhaps—"

"How about improving the texture?"

"That will make you seem even more capable!"

As Bai Ze's body gradually recovered, the atmosphere in the cave became much more relaxed.

Zhao waved his hand: "I know, you guys go find some food for the Needle-tailed Beasts."

Jue immediately ran out, with Xi chasing after her: "Where are you going to look?"

Needle-tailed beasts are not to be trifled with. Few people in the tribe would go out of their way to hunt them, since their nests are often high up in the trees, and getting stung on the hands and nose is really painful.

The two children ran to several houses before finally finding it. When the adults learned that it was Bai Ze who needed it, they immediately gave them everything they had in the house.

The medicine with honey didn't taste very good, but Bai Ze was less resistant to it, and Mo fed it much more easily.
