Rebirth in 1972: Redemption in Changbai Mountain

Chapter 272 Finding the Target, Taking Action

Everyone immediately recognized the name as Hu Dongmu.

"Oh, Eagle Cliff is a name I gave myself; it's the cliff with the gyrfalcon's nest."

"That's right." Gu Jiacheng clapped his hands and looked up.

"What if I can't find my companions and don't know the way? I'll go to the place we initially planned to go, hoping my companions are heading there too. That way we can meet up."

After saying that, Gu Jiacheng turned to look at Hu Dongmu: "On the way here, you must have mentioned the location of Eagle Cliff quite often, right?"

"Yes, although they didn't know the exact location, I kept telling them it was in the northeast corner of these mountains."

Wang Shouye patted Gu Jiacheng on the shoulder with satisfaction, saying that he had half the intelligence of his apprentice.

However, what he didn't know was that Gu Jiacheng was thinking to himself, "So Zhou Rui's way of thinking is really useful."

Just by touching my chin and looking at the ground, my mind became so clear.

"Brother Xie, what do you think?"

Xie Zhijie glared at Xie Yongjiang and Luo Hao. Now even his apprentice had been outdone. What a fucking idiot.

"Let's do it this way. It's getting late today. Let's go to Eagle Cliff together tomorrow."

The night was dark, and a badger was perched in the valley, with several others lying on the ground.

Zhou Rui sprinkled a mixture of fine salt and spice powder on it, making the flavor even stronger.

"It's all thanks to you, Xiao Rui. We've been eating dry rations these past few days to keep up with the time. Now we're finally taking a break and enjoying ourselves."

Zhou Rui took the badger down and cut it in half with a knife, handing one half to Gu Dayong first.

"Come on, Uncle Dayong, have a taste. If we weren't afraid to use firecrackers for fear of the enemy hearing the noise, we would have eaten long ago. Why would we need to slowly smoke it over there?"

Gu Dayong tore off a piece, his mouth filled with the aroma of meat.

"Xiao Rui, do you think we can wipe them all out tonight?"

"If they're all in their nests, I think there's no problem. Even if a few escape, we can at least cripple them. Looks like we're about to achieve something great again."

"If these people hadn't interfered with our rescue efforts, I really wouldn't have thought to come. After all, Director Qin and the old company commander's orders were more important to the rescue. I wonder how they are doing?"

Gu Dayong looked back on the road he had traveled back and forth with concern.

"There's no use in overthinking. We just need to resolve this quickly so we can go back and help sooner."

Both of them ate quickly, without drinking alcohol, just eating meat, and finished in about ten minutes. Each of them ate four or five pounds of meat, and they were both big eaters.

Zhou Rui picked up the water bottle and took a big gulp of water; he was really feeling greasy. Then he grabbed a handful of snow, rubbed it in his hands, and washed away all the grease.

Gu Dayong shook his arm, his voice brief and tinged with bloodlust: "Let's go."

After eating and drinking their fill, the two were brimming with boundless energy, like tigers unleashed from their cages.

Under the cover of night, Zhou Rui and his companion, draped in white cloaks, blended seamlessly into their surroundings, running crouching low through the interplay of light and shadow, undetectable even to the sharpest-eyed eagle.

The two ran for a while, then stopped, trying to stay in the shadows of bushes and snowdrifts, following the tactical movements of a reconnaissance soldier.

Although they didn't know the enemy's tactical skills, they knew from the marksmanship they saw that the enemy was not simple.

The two moved with agility and speed, like two cheetahs, without a single unnecessary movement.

It took Zhou Rui and his group nearly an hour to reach the foot of the mountain. Before them were dense trees, unlike the snowfield they had seen before, which was otherwise barren.

The two of them, without taking a break, lay on the ground, quietly looking ahead, trying their best to search for anything different.

At this moment, Zhou Rui took out a pair of binoculars from his bag and kept scanning the area.

"Hey, this is good stuff, Xiao Rui, where did you get it?" Gu Dayong asked in a low voice.

He was a little envious; when they were fighting the foreign powers in the north, even the company commander didn't have this kind of good stuff.

But Zhou Rui was a junior, so he couldn't just take things from a child.

"Hehe, I bought it through connections."

Zhou Rui told a lie; he couldn't very well say that it was a trophy he had hidden right under Lin Guoqiang's nose.

Their eyes darted around inch by inch, not missing a single spot. Time passed quietly, and the two remained patient and motionless.

"Found it." Gu Dayong handed back the binoculars and pointed in a direction to Zhou Rui.

Through his glasses, Zhou Rui saw a simple sentry post on a large tree, which was camouflaged.

Zhou Rui carefully put the binoculars away. This treasure had to be protected; if it got damaged, who knew when he would find it again?

Then, like two snakes, the two slithered towards the big tree from both sides.

The two leaned against a large tree, and Gu Dayong made a gesture to Zhou Rui, pointing upwards.

Zhou Rui nodded, took off his backpack, and nimbly climbed up, only to slide down the tree trunk a moment later.

"Nobody's here. And it looks like nobody's been up there recently."

"It seems the enemy has already lost their vigilance. Let's continue searching, but we still need to be careful."

The two exchanged a brief, hushed remark and continued forward. However, at this point, neither dared to relax their vigilance; their rifles were gripped tightly, safety off.

Actually, not far past the big tree, Zhou Rui's senses had already detected two living beings at the foot of the mountain.

Based on the perceived strength of the life force, Zhou Rui felt that they must be the enemy.

Unable to bring himself to say it, Zhou Rui walked ahead of Gu Dayong during the search, deliberately guiding him toward their target.

Zhou Rui stopped, waved to Gu Dayong behind him, and then pointed two fingers forward.

At the foot of the mountain, a triangular roof appeared, only a little over a meter above the ground, covered with thick ice and snow, so that it would be hard to spot if you weren't paying attention.

"How about it, let's get straight to it?" Zhou Rui raised the gun in his hand.

"No, we don't know if everyone is here. If possible, it's best not to fire."

Upon hearing this, Zhou Rui immediately understood that there were only two people here, indicating that the enemy had other strongholds.

He nodded, put the gun away, and the two of them slowly approached the dugout.

They took off their backpacks so as not to interfere with their later actions.

Then go down from the ground and come to the door.

The two people inside were snoring loudly, like thunder. Zhou Rui peeked through the crack in the door and saw two people lying on opposite sides of the room.

Zhou Rui pressed on the wooden door with his hand. The door shook slightly but didn't move; it was bolted shut from the inside.

Zhou Rui turned around and made way for Gu Dayong to take a look.

Then the two used hand gestures to divide the target, and Zhou Rui chose the person who was farther away from the door.

Then, Gu Dayong took a few steps back, giving Zhou Rui room to ram the door.

Zhou Rui stretched all his joints, making a cracking sound from his bones, but it was barely audible under the cover of the wind.

Zhou Rui glanced at Gu Dayong and received an approving look.

Immediately afterwards, Zhou Rui sprang up, charging toward the wooden door with an unstoppable momentum.

Bang... Wood chips flew everywhere as the wooden door collapsed inwards.

"Holy shit."

"Who?"
